Traitor, Con-man, All-time Loser : The Trump Thread

Well, my experience is pretty different. I've been on SSI since 2002 and don't own a home or have kids, so I'm tax-exempt. I didn't know about Trump's sexual allegations, but it seems every politician these days is slandered about that by somebody, from either side. My main attraction to Trump was that unlike many, he was ballsy and didn't let Liberals walk all over him.
There's a difference between ballsy and belligerent. Calling people names isn't ballsy, it's just childish and mean. I look for someone who has useful policies, not plans to get back at people he feels have slighted him. Because you're on SSI (my daughter is as well) you're looking at a guy who wants to take away your benefits and your housing if you're getting that from the state like my daughter is. She's terrified of him.

Well again, in my limited experience, sometimes you have to get belligerent with people if they're hellbent on crucifying you first. As for taking away my benefits, I haven't heard anything about that...but then, I haven't watched the news in about 2 months, either.

For me, political leaders should set good examples like being polite and respectful. If you disagree about policy, go over the points and break them down, don't just say it's stupid. In years past, even if you didn't agree with your fellow Congressmen, they didn't boo them or openly mock them like they do to each other now. It's unseemly in adults. You don't like a policy? Say why with debate, not childish insults. Problems don't get solved that way, just like they aren't now. Used to be people would compromise, everybody gives a little to get a little. That's not being done right now and a big reason why our Government is struggling. :(

Yeah, when Republicans talk about taking away "entitlements"? That's your benefits they are talking about. They look at people like you and my daughter and without knowing your circumstances just turn their eyes away and say, "Get a job!"

Oh....well, as long as it didn't affect you, then it's okay. I would say, sure, he's ballsy. He has to be a pathological liar because he's constantly telling contradictory stories.....they can't all be true. I didn't see these kinds of sexual assault allegations against Bush, Obama, Biden or even Clinton (whose escapades are well documented). And, like I said, he's already been found guilty of financial malfeasance in civil court and is facing similar criminal counts. The classified documents are a gimme unless he really is completely (as he says) immune from prosecution because he's an ex-president.

I think it's pretty well known that he was screwing a porn star while his wife was pregnant, but I could care less. That's between him and his wife.....paying her hush money, however, is another thing. Whether he's guilty or not is up to a jury and I don't have an opinion on it at this point.

He just strikes me as a pretty despicable person in general and if you think he puts the interests of the public above his own, you're certainly entitled to your opinion (and I mean that respectfully).

Well, SS is up for "discussion" if he gets in.....and whether it affects you personally or not really isn't the point.

Well, the main reason I'm on SSI is because I have temporal-lobe epilepsy - I've been fighting it since I was 12. I have to take my medicine at the same time every day, or else I risk having a full-blown seizure...and trust me, those are among some of the worst examples of your own body and mind kicking you while you're down.

Exactly, InCali. Abortion rights don't affect me because I've had a hysterectomy but I can still see how taking those rights away has lead to attempts to take other rights away. Sooner or later they will get to something we really do care about. :(

Sure, but there will always still be someone out there who sees you as a "freeloader" even though you aren't simply because their tax dollars support you. People don't have sympathy like they used to. They just see you as an expense. My daughter has autism and people in her low income housing look at her sideways. She can't work, mentally she'll be 12 forever even though she's in her 30s. It's unfair but happens all the time.

I'm autistic too, more specifically diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome - that revelation hit me after a 6-hour psych eval in 2013. They put me through all kinds of crap: memory tests, word associations, visual puzzles, the works. I was drained by the end of it.

Sorry to hear that and I'm glad you can get at least some of the care you need. The needs of and fairness to others is something that should concern us all. I would hate to see cuts to SSI for people like you even though I could financially survive it.

Speaking of SSI, it clearly needs reforming. It's not fair to the young people today who are paying into it, if it's cut or gone by the time they were promised it. We can start by dramatically raising the cap for paying into it. If we can cut taxes for the rich, the rich can pay into SSI and help those who are in need.

I'm glad Biden has been working to bring drugs costs down through negotiating Medicare prices (and other ways). People shouldn't be put over a barrel and have to choose between proper nutrition, a decent place to live and being able to pay for necessary medication.

SSI isn't the same benefit as Social Security retirement funding that we pay into expecting to get a payout later. (I hate how Republicans call these "entitlements" when we pay into them our whole working lives.) SSI is disability payments. My daughter has never been able to work so she's never paid into any fund but she gets checks and housing. I'm sure other hardworking folks resent that, but if something happened to them they would want and need those benefits themselves. We as a society need to be able to stop judging folks that can't get by on their own.

The rich, by paying their share of taxes could save Social security easily.

That's true. I made a mistake conflating them. I used SS initially and put the "I" on the end in my response (probably because it had recently been discussed). They come from a different bucket. I won't go back and take out the "I" LOL

It's okay, I used to get them mixed up, too, until I had to go through the process of getting my daughter on benefits. :)

Trump's first term was solid?

He dismantled the pandemic response team before covid and initially called it a hoax.

The man staged a coup and tried to overthrow democracy.

He gave centi-millionaires and billionaires a huge tax cut.

He lied 30,000 times.

He released 5,000 Taliban fighters while basically surrendering leaving a ticking time bomb for the next president.

He tried to ban Muslims from the U.S..

He punished migrants by intentionally separating them from their children sometimes irreversibly.

Created a far right Supreme Court.

He nullified 100 environmental protections.

Now he's planning christofascism with Project 2025 while sending dog whistles about being a dictator for "a day" and a bloodbath if Biden wins.

But Obama err I mean Trump created a bull market so we ignore all that?

(That list was off the top of my head. There's way more)

Trump's first term was a nightmare we barely survived and are still suffering symptoms from like a bad virus. :(

So far, Dye has provided the best summary of the Truth Social rise into public trading. She identifies this as less a "meme stock" and more a "cult." In this case, it's a cult of people who are absolutely hellbent on handing Donald Trump all their money.

I hope that stock collapses and he loses money.
From where I sit, it's a bet on whether or not he wins in November. If he doesn't, someone's going to take a bath......but it won't be Trump (naturally). He just won't make as much money. I heard him ranting the other day about how corrupt the NYSE is, how mad the NYSE is that Truth Social isn't listed there, and how nobody wants to be listed on the NYSE. It kind of reminds me of that old Yogi Berra saying "No one goes there anymore. It's too crowded." :funny:
