Transformers Transformers = Panacea for the 80's Cartoon Revival

^ ^ ^
It's been a while, but I think Frank Langella was freakin awesome as Skeletor. But, yea, that was a big turd of a movie.

Anyone ever stick around till the after credits? One of the first examples I ever remember of that stupid sort of gimmick (used in X3) besides Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

Frank Langella was excellent as Skeletor and yes I always watched the "i'll be back" clip at the end.

That new Thundercats toon looks so stupid. I loved the original toon but this my reaction was exactly that..................

Man, call me an old fogey, but I always thought Thundercats' animation style and art design stood the test of time even till today. So WB is basically turning them into those up-to-date "extreme" looney toons I found out about not to long ago. (I forget what they were called).

P.S. Thundercats came out in 1983? I didn't know that.

[edit] P.P.S. Oh god... I just read the synopsis. I mean really why not just create a whole new cartoon and not call it Thundercats? Why attach the Thundercats name?

Why do all cartoons nowadays have to have that Japanamation look to them? Its friggin rediculous. I miss the good ole days of the after school cartoons. Didnt I hear something recently that they are going to make a live action Thundercats film?

That synopsis of Thundercats made me punt my dog accross the room. Luckily he landed in a bowl of mashed potatoes.

Good bump.

So like my original question in the first post.

How has the reaction so far to Transformers made you feel about the revival of other 80's cartoon/properties? It is still too early to tell, but I am really excited about G.I. Joe being created, specially if a big name director is brought in.

I can actually see Spielberg jumping on that as he did with Transformers and now with Miyamoto from Nintendo and the game they created.

I hate to see what the rest of the Thundercats look like. Are the Ro-Bear Berbils like Tachikoma now? Maybe they are the rock-bands rodies!

As I've said before...if ANYBODY's to direct GI Joe its Michael Bay. His focus may not have been that much on the Transformers in this movie, but the humans sure did get a lot of time in the sun...so with GI Joe it would just be natural for him.

Turn G.I.Joe into a 2 hour movie commercial for the army....that would never work:whatever:

i am curious to see how they would pull off a GI joe movie. i just have a hard time picturing it.

Except G.I.Joe concentrated almost as much on the bad guys- the comic book going so far as to make them believable and 3-dimensional. I'm not sure Bay has the chops to portray the bad guys as anything but cliched cut-outs.

G.I. Joe was an interdisciplinary team. Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force... even the Coast Guard. Sorry... I just had a ShadowBoxing moment. :oldrazz: :cwink:

Crazy crazy character development. It would be pretty tough, but as long as they introduce the core characters, like they partially did with Transformers, and actually give them speaking lines and intel on their backgrounds it would be cool.

I just hope they don't go the route of the newbie being brought on board trying to prove something, kinda boring and cliched.

Random Military Guy: "Welcome Joey Joe Joeston, our newest recruit. Here is our WACKY group of experts! Meet Snake Eyes!"

Snake Eyes: "..." <slice>

In addition, if the Thundercats cartoon revival is anything like the He-Man cartoon revival I will be happy. It is a shame they gave up on that show so quickly. Pretty good, with some good fleshed out characters and awesome art.

GI Joe IS a commercial for the military. You know how many people joined because they thought they were going to get ninja training?

lots.

LOL. Maybe. Personally G.I.Joe made me respect and look up to the military.... But also made me want to try and understand the bad-guys just as much. That was probably all due to the comic book though. Could also be that I watched M.A.S.H. a lot while playing with my Joes.

I agree...if you want big, explosive action...you can't beat Bay. Plus, he tends to be a very witty director.

Dear Lord, Michael Bay is liable to make Spirit smoke peyote and be drunk during the whole movie.

Do you guy's think it would be too early to set my sights on doing a Transformers movie withing the next 15+ years? Not to bag on the current movie or anything, it was always in the back of my mind but the vision has become even stronger after the movie.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

I guess the Sword of Omens growing from a dagger was deemed uncool. Seems like it'll be full size all the time. Also looks like he won't be using a glove to hold it.

If both of those ideas are gone then I won't be watching. That's mythos right there. That would be like making Optimus Prime a "RADICAL X-TREME BIKE TANK!", but his name isn't Optimus Prime it is Firewheel Crush.
