So I'm debating whether or not I should go to the trouble of trying to get advanced screening tickets for Monday the 22nd in a non-IMAX theater, or just waiting until opening day and going to an IMAX showing...

The thing is that Grindor is identical to Blackout. Why introduce a new bot that is exactly the same as a previous one? Reviving Blackout makes much more sense. I dont see why they would rename him though, cause they have already shown us the Fallen and Devastator. Would Blackout be such a big surprise?
Bringing Blackout back is a good idea IMHO. That guy was a maelstrom!

Yes, lets bring every robot that died in the first film back to life and make their deaths loose any meaning (when there is any).
Megatron is brought back to life but the way they bring him back makes it limited at best. Without any other pieces of the Allspark except the one Ravage and the Insecticons steal from NEST's base, bringing the other dead Decepticons back to life is impossible. If they could just revive Cybertronians at will, Jazz would have been brought back long ago. And Prime's death wouldn't pack the punch it does. I mean, half the movie revolves around Sam trying to find a way to bring him back from stasis lock. So bringing Blackout back, although he was awesome, would make no sense at all. (Though having an almost exact duplicate around doesn't make much sense either).

We don't know how all this plays out, so right now it doesn't make sense as none of us has seen it. Also Transformers have come back to life tons of times, it's not something new.

That was in the animated series. This is a whole new ball game. The movies intend to be more "reality based", at least as much as a movie where giant alien living robots kick the crap out of each other can be.
I accept the ressurections of Megatron and Optimus because they obbey the (very slim) set of rules established in the movie universe. But if every single Autobot and Decepticon was brought back without a "plausible" explanation that would suck. Jazz's death was heroic and dramatic but would lose all that if they could just wish him back.

I agree with you. They should have used Barricade instead (he is still alive but not seen in ROTF) but they chose to use Blackout's design, change the colour a bit and call him Grindor. Whatever Bay, whatever...

So lets hope that they choose very carefully which bots they kill and then leave them dead. Unless the fans get furious about the death of course...

We don't know how they come back, so we will have to wait and see.
There were a lot of plausible explanations to how they came back in the animated shows. Just because it's a film, doesn't mean they can use those explanations. For all we know, a spark could be put into Blackouts body, creating a new Transformer called Grindor who just uses Blackouts body.

I understand what you're saying but though that was true in some animated series, here, as far as i understand it, Sparks are created by the Allspark's energy, as seen when it brings random objects to life in Mission City.
The Constructicons reactivate Megatron by fusing a piece of the Allspark (the same Optimus retrieved from his molten chest at the end of the first movie and was kept in secure storage by Nest, until Ravage stole it with the Insecticons)to his spark core. They repare his body using salvaged pieces from the remaining Decepticons bodies and (according to the novel) one of the Constructicons that goes down to the abyssal. They then jump start the Allspark piece with their combined energy reserves.
As for Optimus he isn't "killed" but severely damaged, being forced into stasis-lock, his internal repair system will eventually cure him but it will take a long time, even by Transformers standards. Sam finds the Matrix and uses it to "accelerate" that process.
These two ressurections are acceptable because they are explained by the movie universes rules.
But as you say, this is Transformers so anything is possible.

^^^^
I was going to read that but it has spoilers in it.

Anyway, Susan Blu is back as Arcee and Jason Griffith as Sideswipe.

This IS the spoilers section, thats why i wrote all that, didn't think anyone posting here would mind.
Still, what knowledge i have of the movie plot comes from what i've read here and other forums and from reading the novel by Alan Dean Foster. The 1st novel was basicaly right but had a lot of differences with the movie, so the same may happen here. But if the "novel to movie" enjoyment racio is kept, this movie will be... AWESOME!!!!!
Just 8 days to go. Can't wait.

Also, a heads up for the Score lovers out there, Amazon.de has posted samples for the new score. From what i heard, it sounds solid with a new main theme that is just great. From the samples, this score is not as fresh and grandieuse as the first but thats because the 1st was so good that it would be hard to top. Still, i reserve my judgement until i've heard the full CD and watched the movie, so i can associate the music with the visuals. Don't know if this happens to you all but i sometimes don't quite like a piece of music as a standalone but after having that visual reference in my mind, i tend to enjoy it.

This is from imdb, so take it with a grain of salt, but apparently Anthony Anderson is voicing Jolt.

The music video for New Divide has some new footage in it:

havent been her in weeks. time went fast son and now the movie is almost here :D

I think Anthony Anderson is a funny guy, so he'll be perfect as an Autobot, especially if Jolt is meant to be comedy relief(we have no clue if he'll be a serious 'bot or what).

But Jolt could live, I mean Tony Todd voices Fallen, and we know he dies...so maybe that's the only "brotha" that dies, lol.

And I think it's Barricade that we see that reaches his hand through that tunnel.

I had no idea he was doing the voice for The Fallen. That's awesome!

Is there a character in ROTF who ISNT comedy relief?

Yep..I went on the ROTF's wikipedia page to see if anything new was on it, and it said Tony Todd was voicing Fallen with a link as well as Susan Blu(or Blue) voicing Arcee.

So the latter could be new to people as well.

Optimus Prime(he's more of a badass in number two), Ironhide, Ratchet, Megatron, Starscream, Devastator, Barricade, Skorponok, Blackout/Grindor.

I could very much see Sideswipe as comedy relief, so that's kinda sad.

I don't think Sideswipe will be comic relief. He'll be the badass like he should be. :woot:

Just because Anthony Anderson is doing the voice for Jolt (maybe), doesn't mean that he'll be funny. :yay:

Jolt has to be funny, AA is voicing him...that would be a talent wasted if Jolt is not funny.

I hope Sideswipe is a badass, but it's just seem he won't be, I don't know, it's just a feeling I have, haha. Although if he cuts Sideways in half right in the beginning as the book says, and if it's not changed, then I will be pleased.
