WTF!? A 61% drop off first off is as you said, alright...but from a first week gross of over 200 million and a first weekend gross of 108 million, which is still massive, that is still very good.
The first film only opened with 70 million and therefore didn't have a huge drop off because not very many people wanted to see it the first weekend. The general audience loved this film, hence the huge freaking numbers and this weekend once again shows that they are seeing it more than once.
Not saying this film didn't have flaws, which it does, but to say the general audience didn't like this when it will make 300 million in two weeks and it beat a new animated movie, Ice Age 3, is an incorrect assumption and an incorrect statement.
wolverine had a huge opening becuase of Jackman and because of the previous x-men movies. how much did it made? You completely misinterpreted my commentary. Just because a movie makes a ****load of cash does not mean the general audience loved it. The Phantom menace made a crapload of money and I couldn't find a single friend, acquaintance, or family member that thought it was a great film. The phantom menace and Transformers 2 were destined to make money because they were highly anticipated films. Lack of quality was not going to hurt either film at the box office even if people are a little disappointed. I was disappointed and I saw the film twice in 24 hours.
The 90% exit poll that they did saying they liked it....does say that the general audience loved it....
Did you actually go see this movie wee wee....
Clapping at the end of a movie? Is that an American thing?
I already stated that I saw the movie twice in 24 hours. Both audiences were into the film yet, there was no clapping at the end. It was strange to witness this because these types of movies usually get an applaus when an audience is entertained. The reaction from the audiences reminded me of my movie experience with Pirates 2. The audiences I saw the two sequels with were into the films until the final 20 minutes and neither movie got an applaus.
The exit polls are relative. Pirates 2 made a crap load of money, with very favorable exit polls, and the general consensus of opinion became more negative over time. One of the reasons Pirates 3 suffered was because it's predecessor didn't live up to the hype so there was less of an urgency to see a sequel.
Finally, what I originally said was I believed people were disappointed in Transformers 2. That doesn't mean the audiences didn't have a good time watching it. If I didn't enjoy Transformers 2 I wouldn't have seen the movie twice during the same weekend. Inspite of my feelings I still prefer the original and I'm not planning on seeing the sequel in the theater any more. Transformers 2 is a fun dumb movie that could have been better under different circumstances. It has some replay value but, how will the film be regarded by the average person a few years from now?

The haters (who strangely liked the first film) need to stop spinning these numbers. That 61% drop is not terrible. This weekend actually looks like it hurt all of the movies to varying degrees ofcourse.
Ofcourse a 61% drop is never "good" but sequel's legs tend to be worse than their predecessor no matter how much people liked them.
TDK's second weekend drop wasn't as good as Batman Begins, Iron Man 2's legs will not be as good as the first movie's and neither will Star Trek 2. It's just the way things go.

The big crowd pleasers (Spider-Man 1, Iron Man, Transformers, Pirates 1) always tend to get applause in my theaters.
I've seen ROTF a total of 3 times now, twice on Regular & so far once on IMAX . All three showings the audience gave huge applause at the end of the film .
