Could we not, and actually get a sequel with Sam, Quorra and all of the other cast? Thank you, please.

Maybe they got together/married and now have an ISO-Human hybrid teenage kid (maybe a daughter this time, to change it up), and their child plays a part in the plot somehow. Maybe she gets brought into the Grid somehow. Have Tron meet up with her and be a mentor to her, even tell stories about her grandfather. Bring back Cillian Murphy as Dillinger, Jr. to be the antagonist and fulfill that promise that we got in the viral marketing for Legacy. Get Jeff Bridges back for a few scenes as a force ghost or something, even have a family reunion at some point.

And if you can’t get the members of Daft Punk to come back, maybe get someone like Ludwig Goransson to compose the music, since he’s already done a lot of stuff for Disney. The man is classically trained but also knows his electronic/synth stuff. He could even bring back a lot of the themes from the first Tron film into the mix.

I’m telling you, the sequel practically writes itself. Don’t throw away and ruin all of that potential for continuing to indulge in that creepy individual’s ego to prove how much of an “artiste” he wants to be. If Suicide Squad 2016 and Morbius’ quality is any indication (it’s terrible), he’s box office poison anyway. Just keep him away from big blockbuster films and let him quietly fade into obscurity like he deserves.

Oh ****.

I forgot, does my og Blu-Ray have ratio changes?

It does... but now it's just more convenient to put on Disney+.

Tron 3: Disney Buying Marvel and Star Wars Killed the Sequel - Variety

In a new interview with Vulture, Kosinski confirmed he had storyboarded and written the entire third “Tron” movie when Disney pulled the plug on the project in 2015. As the filmmaker said, “I got so close. I really tried.” Kosinski’s idea for “Tron 3” was to invert the franchise’s core structure. Instead of human characters being sucked into a video game world, the video game world would bleed into the real world and the film would be “about the blending of the two.”

“But it was a different Disney by 2015,” Kosinski said about why the project died. “When I made ‘Tron: Legacy,’ they didn’t own Marvel; they didn’t own ‘Star Wars.’ We were the play for fantasy and science fiction. And once you’ve got those other things under your umbrella, it makes sense that you’re going to put your money into a known property and not the weird art student with black fingernails in the corner — that was ‘Tron.’ And that’s okay.”

Kosinski added, “Had I made ‘Tron: Ascension,’ I wouldn’t have made ‘Only the Brave,’ and I wouldn’t have made the movies I made. But remember, the first ‘Tron’ was not a hit when it came out. It’s a cult classic. And if ‘Tron: Legacy’s’ becoming the same thing, I couldn’t be more thrilled.”

Man that sucks. Don’t why we couldn’t have Marvel, Star Wars AND Tron such a shame.

Next person who bumps this thread without news of a continuation is getting sued.

That news about the Marvel and Star Wars being purchased has been speculated for years, even on this site, but it's nice or whatever to get an official confirmation.

I think if Tron Legacy hit like it was supposed to they would've still moved forward. Even with Star Wars and the MCU. Money is money.

At the end of the day, and I like and own the movie, Tron Legacy is a cult film. It didn't flop at least from what we know, but they clearly spent a lot of making it and marketing it. They were really banking on it making money. It grossed "only" 400 mill on an alleged 170 production budget. And of course that doesn't include marking.
Probably needed at least 500 mill to break even and even that is dicey.

Also didn't they try a TV show and that didn't really move anything for the series?

I'd love more stuff in the Tron universe. But I see why they have let the series die. Unfortunately

The irony is if a Tron Legacy came out now making “only” 400M worldwide and close to 200M domestically, a sequel would be greenlit in a hot second.

Nah I don't think so. Not when they spent close to 340 to make and market the movie.

I think it’s just a different barometer of success, especially with their streaming service and all that. Studios just seem to have lower expectations when they want a franchise more than anything, they’re willing to take more of a loss. It at the very least would’ve gotten probably a cheaper streaming show sequel lol

Maybe for another studio but Disney isn't desperate for a franchise. So I don't think they would've done it. But who knows

But they seem to be making a lot of nostalgia sequels as of late, albeit cheaper and for their streaming service. Hocus Pocus, Enchanted, or sending remakes of their cartoons there like Pinocchio and Peter Pan.

It feels with that they can mine what they own with less risk. Hocus Pocus 2 would probably never be made without it. Which is probably where they’ll eventually put another Tron, even though I would love to see it get the five star treatment like Legacy.

So what does this mean for the Tron 3 announced with that new director and Leto? Is it dead? If it isn't, I would take a step back from it and wait for Kosinski to become available for it. Look at how much he's grown as a filmmaker since TL, it's wild. I've enjoyed every single one of them and both of his sci-fi movies are cult classics for a reason. Disney, if you are smart, you bring this man back.

I just don't see the point. Disney clearly wasn't happy with Tron Legacy. If they were, they wouldn't have dragged their feet for so many years.

I assumed the Leto one is dead. We haven't heard about it.

And saying "both of his sci-fi movies are cult classics for a reason" isn't the flex you think it is. Studios don't want to and most likely won't spend 150+ million on cult classic stuff. And I don't blame them. They're a business and want/need to make money. They're not A24 making small budget stuff.

And also why would they need too? The revival of Tron was very much about getting the action oriented crowd into Disney. Now they have Marvel and Star Wars so there's no need for them to do that.
If Disney was smart, they wouldn't make another Tron movie for a bit.

Honestly when you look at it, most of the Tron properties never lit the world on fire. It's a cult thing. Even the 1982 movie was only a "moderate" success at the box office. Legacy was a disappointment box office wise. Uprising only lasted one season. None of the video games are acclaimed or even have that big of followings.
I get we as fans of somethings that we blindly want it to continue. But let's face it: Tron has had plenty of chances with movies, games, and TV and it hasn't really broken out completely. And no I'm not saying people hate it or don't like it. Just that it might not be that popular to drop 100s of millions to create.

Now that being said...I do think there's a big direction they can do with when it comes to Tron. Video Games.
I know they've done games before but I really think Tron could have a bright future in video games if:
-They license it to a great studio because I don't think Disney Interactive has it in them
-Really fun adventure gameplay
-Really immersive world
-Really immersive multiplayer. Come on, the gladiator games are made for playing online with friends

I really think a good AAA game based on Tron shouldn't be that hard and can be very successful

Somehow hope there still will be a sequel made.
With the cgi from now, it could become fantastic again.
