While Tron Legacy doesn't feature an audio commentary or a behind-the-scenes Picture-in-Picture experience, it still has some worthwhile extras waiting in the wings including an interactive prologue to the film, several featurettes and Disney's Second Screen feature (itself a gateway to even more content via any synced iPad or laptop). Now if only its special features were as extensive as those that accompany the original Tron...
The Next Day: Flynn Lives Revealed (HD): "Be the first to discover what happens after the movie ends." It's a bold claim, but it comes backed by even bolder execution. "The Next Day" is a terribly entertaining interactive suite that features segments from an in-universe mockumentary, messages from the underground "Flynn Lives" movement, news clips centered around Alan Bradley and Sam Flynn's company takeover, and scenes from an Encom expose. The entire experience is peppered with appearances from key members of the cast as well, and will delight Tron fans, casual and hardcore alike. My only complaint? The interface itself is unnecessarily cumbersome, requiring users to enter various three-letter initials on a hi-scores arcade screen. Even so, it shouldn't take anyone more than a few tries to figure out the basics. (Annoyed? Simply enter the word "ALL" in the hi-score submenu to watch all the segments. Chances are though that there are some hidden easter eggs available to those with the patience to try initials that aren't listed on the hi-scores screen.)
First Look at Tron: Uprising (HD, 2 minutes): A much-too-short sneak peek at the upcoming Disney XD computer animated television series. Unfortunately, it isn't a lot to go on.
Launching the Legacy (HD, 10 minutes): Producer Steven Lisberger introduces the test trailer he and his fellow filmmakers created to sell the viability of a Tron sequel to the studio, some two-and-a-half decades after the debut of the original film. (The full test trailer is included and, in many ways, is more riveting than Legacy.) From there, the featurette kicks into high-EPK gear as the filmmakers quickly dissect the new story, touch on the science behind their vision, and offer their thoughts on the final film. It's an appetizer at best, but the test trailer makes it well worth watching.
Visualizing Tron (HD, 12 minutes): This excellent FX featurette is more extensive, digging into Legacy's use of light and color, the various ties between the original film and the sequel, the creation of a young Jeff Bridges avatar, the development of the new Tron Verse, and the design of its architecture, fashion, vehicles and weaponry.
Installing the Cast (HD, 12 minutes): Bridges, Hedlund, Wilde, Boxleitner, Sheen
meet the cast of Legacy and hear them gush over one another's performances. (Fun fact: Hedlund and Wilde have known each other since they were teenagers and had been looking to work together for some time.)
Disc Roars (HD, 3 minutes): An eager San Diego Comic Con Q&A crowd gets the unique opportunity to voice a chanting crowd in the final film's Tron arena.
Music Video (HD, 3 minutes): "Derezzed" -- written, produced and performed by Daft Punk.
Disney Second Screen (HD): Users can sync their laptops or iPads with Disney's latest Blu-ray release to unearth even more content. Visit this website for more information.
