Sci-Fi Tron Legacy - v2.0

But to me it just doesnt sound like a property Disney would make. It's like Brad Bird making movies that collectively grossed billions of dollars for Disney and yet their hesitant with his 1906 project.

THere are signs that this might not get a sequel, but I dont think this whole Oblivion thing is one of them

^Tron Legacy didnt seem like a movie Disney would either, or the original, but they did, I just done see this as anything but a negative sign.

They could have released via one of their other banners anyway, if it's not something they wanted to release under the mainstream Disney branch.

It COULD be. You never can tell with Disney. I mean, would you have expected them to buy the distribution rights for The Avengers and Iron Man 3 from Paramount like that? THAT was something no one expected, yet it made sense, especially since Disney owns Marvel Comics.:cwink:

I honestly expected Disney to do that since it's been long rumored that because Disney was the one essentially ponying up all the cash for those movies and was going to get almost all of the money from the box office from those movies, they wanted them under the Walt Disney banner.

Although I am curious to see if Disney will attempt to eventually get the home video distribution rights to Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, the Incredible Hulk, and Captain America: The First Avenger considering that they own those films as well.

Disney has been putting a lot more emphasis on their Walt Disney banner and less on their other banners. Touchstone Pictures has mostly been reduced to releasing DreamWorks movies, Hollywood Pictures is almost nonexistent, and Miramax Films was sold to Filmyard Holdings.

I'll only support a Tron 3 if they let Daft Punk go nuts on this movie. Now that would be a good movie

Warning! Spoiler Alert Ahead!

Bruce Boxleitner Lights Up About 'Tron 3'

This Tuesday (April 5) sees the long-awaited release of “Tron: Legacy” on DVD and Blu-Ray, and with that comes the question on everyone’s mind: will there be a third “Tron” film? If you ask veteran actor Bruce Boxleitner who plays the titular character, it’s an enthusiastic yes.

“I think 'Tron: Legacy' left it open-ended,” Boxleitner said in an interview with MTV News. “You see two beautiful people riding off into the sunrise, and Quora seeing sunrise for the first time. That leaves it open to imagination and speculation."

"We also saw Cillian Murphy and the boardroom at ENCOM when Sam pulled the stunt in the beginning," he continued. "All these things have been left hanging out there.”

Boxleitner has played two characters in the “Tron” series, Alan Bradley and Tron… three if you count the brainwashed Rinzler from “Tron: Legacy” who is revealed to be Tron himself. Although he left it to someone else to suit up for the physical acrobatics shown on screen, it’s Boxleitner who voiced the character.

“Rinzler is the attack dog for Clu – and through the movie the character made a journey back to redemption,” the actor points out. “Rinzler’s last line, 'I fight for the users,' is Tron’s. Plus the design on his chest is Tron’s design. He went to the dark side with Clu, but at the end after he rebelled and you saw him following, you could see the familiar blue color of Tron return. I don’t think he’s dead at all.”

Although the “Tron” franchise is based around the digital world of the grid, Boxleitner has the most affinity for the character he plays in the real world – Alan Bradley.

“What I liked in 'Tron: Legacy' was that Alan was a man that survived those many years, even at one point becoming CEO of ENCOM – even if only in name,” Boxleitner revealed. “ At the opening of the second film these young guys have taken over the company and Alan’s become slightly embittered and cynical. With Sam coming into his own, it gives Alan hope. And then the page from a long lost friend – this ancient piece of technology, reconnecting to a long lost friend. I think those two things inspired hope in Alan Bradley after all those years of seeing ENCOM become something he and Flynn didn’t intend it to be. With Sam, and this tether back to Flynn, he found a way to do something about it.”

Boxleitner has been a part of virtually all iterations of “Tron,” from the two movies to the numerous video games and even the upcoming animated series. Although he’s played virtually all kinds of parts from space ship captain in “Babylon 5” to secret agent in “Scarecrow & Mrs. King”, it’s the characters in “Tron” that mean the most to him.

“I want to participate in as many things related to 'Tron' as they’ll let me,” the actor said. “'Tron' is part of my legacy.”

yes its called work and paycheck.

Tron is the carrot stick keeping Boxleitnet from making another Asylum movie

Funny how he doesnt address the films financial performance though, you hear stuff like this all the time from actors but it doesnt mean a movie is getting made, if he had said he heard from Disney that they want to do another it would give me a bit more hope of a sequel happening, but at the moment, unless the blu-ray sells amazingly, I cant see one getting made unfortunately.

Oh, they ARE planning a third film as we speek, don't worry. Kosinski said it himself in a VERY recent interview:

http://www.forcesofgeek.com/2011/03/fog-chats-with-tron-evolution-director.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+forcesofgeek%2FrNjo+%28forces+of+geek%29

Also, in the same interview, Kosinski makes a revelation that really caught me off guard:

Not only is Kevin Flynn not really dead (Kosinski says something about his code being fragmented and scattered across The Grid), but SO IS TRON!!!!! I KNEW that his change in color towards the end of the film hinted that he wasn't dead!:woot:
Lastly, IMAX fans rejoyce! Kosinski says that, like TDK on Blu-Ray, the Blu-Ray version of Tron Legacy will have the IMAX formated shots and scenes intact!

Have had the 4-disc Blu-Ray combo pack here since Tuesday, it looks quite amazing!

I think the track name "Flynn Lives" was a subtle hint that Flynn never actually died when he did that awesome self-imploding thing. xD

I agree, the DVD sales will be very important.

Does this film warrant a sequel?

I mean I get that but I mean do we really NEED a sequel? It's not as if the ending demanded a Sequel be made.

That really doesn't matter. If they think it can make a lot of money, they'll find some way to make one. They'll make it a prequel or a sequel featuring a different character, make it a spinoff, have it set in the "same world"...trust me, they'll find some way to attach the "Tron" name to another installment if that's their desire.

Thank you for being so insightful. :| I guess I was asking if the fans felt we needed one. Do YOU guys really want to see a sequel?
