Sci-Fi Tron Legacy - v2.0

Just watched the movie; found Flynn Lives but can't find the other special with Quorra. Where is it on the Blu-Ray?

Btw, mine is the normal (blu-dvd) edition, if that matters...

Don't think that one is on any of the copies.

Tron Sequel Teasers and Easter Eggs Revealed

http://bluray.ign.com/articles/115/1158555p1.html

Warning: The following contains spoilers related to the content on the Tron: Legacy Blu-ray, as well as the film itself. Read on at your own risk.

There were rumors circulating that the new Tron: Legacy Blu-ray would have some hidden content on it, and even some teases about a potential third installment in the franchise. So naturally, the first thing we did when we got the new release in the office is go hunting for Easter Eggs. Read on to learn what we found and instructions for how to find them yourself when Tron: Legacy comes out on Blu-ray Tuesday, April 5.

It turns out, the hidden content isn't that hard to find. To start with, all you have to do is watch the featurette "The Next Day: Flynn Lives Revealed." The piece gives an overview of the Flynn Lives campaign, the basis for an ARG promoting the film that earned a real-life following of fans all over the world. It chronicles the story of the fictional grass-roots movement that emerged following Kevin Flynn's mysterious disappearance in 1989, up to Sam's return at the end of Tron: Legacy.

The piece culminates in a scene between Alan Bradley (Bruce Boxleitner) and Roy "Ram" Kleinberg (whom Tron fans will recognize as Dan Shor, the same actor who played Ram in the original film), a former ENCOM programmer. The scene reveals that Roy is Zack Attack, the effective leader of the Flynn Lives movement, and that Alan is his financial backer, code-named Isolated Thinker. Alan has been reinstated as CEO of ENCOM by Sam, and states his intentions to put Flynn Lives behind them and reinvent the company as Flynn would have wanted it. He offers to bring on Roy as the company's "moral compass." When Roy asks whether Ed Dillinger Jr. (portrayed briefly by Cillian Murphy in Tron: Legacy) will stay on, Alan replies that he has "earned his place." This is the first piece of the puzzle that seems to point to a plot or at least some viral marketing for Tron 3 (sometimes referred to as TR3N).

This screen appears at the end of "The Next Day."

When the featurette ends, you get a screen that looks like an old-school arcade console display with a list of high scores. There's a place where you can enter a three-letter code, just like you would enter your initials if you got a top score. Each of the initials in the list brings up a different segment. Some of them provide background on the Flynn Lives campaign, others show footage from various public events, like Comic-Con and Wonder Con, where bits of the Flynn Lives story played out. If you followed the viral campaign, you might have seen some of these on the web previously, but there are some fun surprises here as well.

The most telling video is an online chat between two characters identified only as EDJ_0431 and MCTRL_751. EDJ, whom we assume to be Ed Jr., refers to MCTRL as "Dad," but is it really Ed Dillinger, Sr.? Or has the Master Control Program come back online? The conversation concludes with the MCP's traditional sign-off, "End of Line," so that may be a clue. Either way, the modified voice reading the dialogue is clearly that of David Warner, who played both roles in the original film.

End of line? Or just the beginning?

Below you'll find a complete list of the codes and the content they unlock.

DJR - The aforementioned text exchange between EDJ_0431 and MCTRL_751.
CEO - A reel-to-reel audio tape plays with the full conversation between Alan and an unknown speaker from ENCOM. They discuss Flynn's disappearance and Alan taking over as interim CEO.
MKT - A clip from a business news show called The Market Floor in which Alan, newly appointed to the position of ENCOM chairman, talks about the company's plans for the future. In a split screen, a graphic shows the stock price plummeting.
SAM - Features footage from the staged ENCOM press conference at last year's WonderCon convention in San Francisco.
TAG - A YouTube video of a tagger spray painting "Flynn Lives" on the infamous big door outside ENCOM headquarters.
FLV - An aged VHS tape providing information about the Flynn Lives movement and Flynn's book The Digital Frontier. At the end, an address is displayed, which corresponds to the location in San Diego where Flynn's Arcade was recreated during Comic-Con in 2009 and 2010.
DFB - An advertisement for Flynn's book The Digital Frontier: Mapping the Other Universe.
GAM - Follows fans playing the ARG to the opening of Flynn's arcade in San Diego in 2009.
SPC - A vintage 1980s commercial for Space Paranoids.
ALL - Plays all of the above in order.

There may be other codes not listed that bring up even more surprise content, but we haven't found any yet. If you've heard of any, let us know in the comments.

I'm really excited about Tron:Uprising. Anything Tron is A-OK with me

Deadline is reporting that Disney is indeed working on a third Tron movie due to Tron's box office doing well enough, high home video sales, and licensing sales that fueled other divisions of the company:

But Tron: Legacy's performance certainly gives the studio reason to think it has poured the foundation for a franchise. Disney has begun work on a sequel, which Kosinski is constructing with original writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz. Maybe because of Tron: Legacy's pricey launch and heightened expectations, I had the impression that the film had been a bit underwhelming, despite a $44 million opening weekend. But looks are deceiving. For one thing, despite the film's big budget, Tron: Legacy had the benefit of zero first-dollar box office gross participants. Another pic that opened around the same time, Little Fockers, was teeming with them.

Should Kosinski's crown buy a Tron: Legacy encore? Its performance certainly compares well to other 2D films that launched franchises. Tron: Legacy out-grossed the Chris Nolan-directed Batman Begins ($373 million) and the Abrams-directed Star Trek ($386 million), both of which were based on brands far more famous than the long-forgotten 1982 original Tron. For that matter, Tron: Legacy out-grossed The Bourne Identity ($214 million) and its sequel The Bourne Supremacy ($288 million). It also bested X-Men Origins: Wolverine ($373 million), National Treasure ($347 million) and The Fast and the Furious ($207 million). It out-grossed all the films in that franchise. Beyond that, the film fed other Disney divisions. The Tron: Legacy soundtrack sold 615,000 copies worldwide, and the movie spawned ElecTRONica, a featured attraction at Disney’s California Adventure theme park. A Tron: Legacy rollercoaster for the new Shanghai theme park is under discussion.

Now, just because a studio makes it out alive after a big bet on a film doesn't mean it's franchise city. Said one vet: "Sometimes, you say, 'We got away with one,' and move on. From Terminator to Bourne, you can usually tell if the audience wants more." Based on the Tron: Legacy gross and high DVD pre-sales, Disney will go for two. And Kosinski seeded the original with plot points that lend to a sequel.

Tron looks amazing on Blu-Ray and the The TRON Phenomenon featurette is a nice retrospective tribute .

I'm glad to see that Tron 3 is good to go. I loved TRON:LEGACY

I'm watching this tonight! Looking forward to it.

So what's the best bundle to get? Or if I want all the special features should I buy both movies individually?

Unbelievable.

I do hope the sequel continues going forward. Forgive my lack of effects expertise, but would it be possible to make a sequel with a lower budget since the tech now exists for stuff like digital Bridges and doesn't have to be developed?

Great, so we have confirmation now about Tron 3. I hope it really happens, and hopefully, happens soon.

Man I just rewatched this

Im still baffled at the SFX snub. The score is still awesome. It was fun to name the songs from the score as they played. Ive listened to the score so many times I could name all the tracks from memory

I still dont think its a perfect movie or even a great movie. I probably wont even put it in my top 15 from last year. But damn its entertaining. And it has some of the best action ever. Im so glad that Kosinski didnt falll into the common trap of shaky cam. Seriously this was the clearest action Ive seen in a big budget film in the longest time. I just wish that the writers didnt waste such a great opportunity of visuals, score, and cast by making a mediocre story.

Still hella entertaining. 7/10. Glad this is getting a sequel

I thought the story was brilliant....with all the subtexts, and undertones...but hey....

Because they saw that the Narnia franchise would have continued to decline, even if they moved it back to a more appropriate slot. Voyage of the Dawn Treader did slightly worse than Prince Caspian even when it was moved to December, the time when The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe came out. Also, Disney didn't just flat out give up on the Narnia franchise, they offered to make the film, but with a lower budget that Walden Media wouldn't accept.

Also, Disney didn't own the Narnia franchise. Walden Media were the ones who held the film rights (and got a share of the profits and why they were able to take the series over to 20th Century Fox) and the estate of C.S. Lewis.

Meanwhile, Disney flat out owns everything regarding Tron. They don't have to deal with any potential rights issues. They get all of the money in regards to licensing, etc. If someone else owned Tron, I'd bet that Disney would have dropped it faster than they did Narnia.

Not saying they would drop Tron faster than Narnia, but to drop Narnia after one successful movie and one that was at least profitable just reminded me of any other studio.

No, Marvel Studios said that there won't be another stand alone Hulk movie for the time being. That decision was made well before the Walt Disney Company bought Marvel Entertainment. And with Marvel Studios' plate being full with Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor, Iron Man 3, and the Avengers (along with trying to find ways to get smaller characters out there), there is just no room for another Hulk movie for the time being until after the Avengers comes out.

But please note that Disney hasn't given up on the Hulk. They have ABC Studios developing a Hulk TV show, a decision that was made after Disney bought Marvel. And if that show is a success and if audiences like how the Hulk is portrayed in the Avengers, don't be surprised to see another Hulk movie in the future. Disney still sees the Hulk as a viable franchise.

Actually, Marvel always said they were looking into another Hulk movie, it just wouldnt happen until after The Avengers, which was expected anyway, but the most recent story which came out, since Disney took over, is that they werent looking into another Hulk movie anymore. As for the TV series, this shows they dont have a clue about the character as TV just doesnt have the budget to do the character justice, the old 70's show didnt even do him justice.

Another Tron movie certainly isn't guaranteed, I think that Disney still wants to gauge how Tron: Legacy does on home video, but I don't think that Disney is willing to give up on the franchise just yet. Mostly because they own the license flat out and stand to make money by keeping the franchise alive beyond just movies, and Disney is more lenient than Warner Bros. (which is also dependent on licensed franchises like DC Comics, Harry Potter, etc.), Universal Studios, etc.

I dont know WB made a sequel to BB which wasnt a smash hit by any means, Universal has done sequels people wouldnt expect, and are doing another Riddick movie despite the last one bombing. I just hope we hear from someone at Disney that Tron Legacy is getting a sequel, then I will get my hopes up, even the latest article you posted only has the director saying its getting made, but we have heard this about other franchises before.

I would love another Tron movie.

I think think the effects used to make Flynn look younger is what hurt Tron from being nominated.

If Tron deserved any Oscar nominations it was Daft Punk's score. They were the ones who got snubbed.

To a certain extent, but there were a lot of other factors with Disney dropping Narnia. It all came down to the simple fact that Disney was willing to make another one, but Walden Media (the ones who own the film rights) wanted a higher budget than what Disney was willing to provide. Disney just didn't have enough to gain for a franchise that they didn't fully own.

Actually, Marvel always said they were looking into another Hulk movie, it just wouldnt happen until after The Avengers, which was expected anyway, but the most recent story which came out, since Disney took over, is that they werent looking into another Hulk movie anymore. When did Disney say that they weren't ever going to do a Hulk movie?

Batman Begins had legs and like Tron showed the potential of a growing franchise. And I'd be surprised if we saw another Riddick movie anytime soon.

Deadline is reporting that Disney themselves are all for making another Tron movie. The movie is reportedly doing very well on home video, it has done very well for Disney's other divisions such as their licensing division and Walt Disney Records division, although the Tron video game hurt their video game division, but that's more due to the game being crap.

I thought Kevin Flynn looked great until he talked, then it really took me out of the movie.

pretty much

but I still think its ridiculous not the even be nominated with all the other fantastic effects

There were better effects in the movie.....

I still think its ridiculous not the even be nominated with all the other fantastic effects

Two quotes, one answer. Last I heard, visual effects nominations are based on a 15 minute demonstration clip, not an entire movie.

I don't know any more of the selection process beyond that, but at least it offers an indication about the surprise that was the Golden Compass visual effects award...
