TV series that have lasted too long?

You could put any reality show under this heading after a single episode. Those shows are uncreative, low-brow crap.

As far as good shows that eventually saw the leprechaun, ( past & present )

The Simpsons
X-Files
Will & Grace
Coach
Scrubs
The Cosby Show
Family Matters

The Simpsons come to mind for me... so plaaaaayed. :whatever:

ER...definitely.

Im surprised no one so far as stated the most obvious:

7th Heaven

Exactly that last season was horrible. My wife was a fan, but they should have ended it the season before as originally planned! It way overstayed it's welcome!

Law and Order, ER (which is ending this season), Smallville ( which should have ended the season when Pa Kent died), CSI ( now that Petersen and Dourdan is gone it is time to move on) all the reality shows ( the all have overstayed their welcome in my opinion. I want more regular shows ,not this reality show crap. It was fine at first, but there is waay too many reality shows.

I agree that The Simpsons weren't that good from like season 10 and on...But I don't think it should be canceled...I don't think that a cartoon that doesn't have a continuous plot stemming from episode to episode should be canceled...Every now and then I'll watch the new episodes of Family Guy, American Dad, King of the Hill and of course The Simpsons, of which I'm a huge fan of...! Simpsons has picked up a little steam, Family Guy is same old same old all the time, American Dad seems to be going downhill, King of the Hill is getting a little dumber, and South Park seems to be picking up a little steam as well...!

Family Matters - Focused too much on Steve and the stories got very stupid. Not to mention they replaced Hariett. Nothing was funny anymore.

Full House - Seriously, why not open up a damn day care center? 11 people in the same house?! Same went for FM. Everything just got cheesier. I could taste it. And Michelle couldn't stop being a smartass and coudn't shut the hell up. They went too far with her charm. Its fresh and funny and charming when you're one. But when you're eight? I would put her up for adoption.

ER - This show NEEDS to end. Carter, Green, Benton, and Doug are gone. And so are all the original characters that made the show so great. You liked all the characters from the original seasons.

Law and Order - How many shows do they have now? Four? Not to mention marathons every day and weekend. All happening on five different channels. This show annoys the hell out of me.

CSI - Never watched the show, but when I heard the lead dude was leaving, that's when you're suppose to end it. Now Morphius is in it. End it. Now.

Hell, Morpheus being in it is the only thing making me want to possibly watch it...

I know it's probably been mentioned already, but the Simpsons have been on for far too long.

Is ER still in production? If so, that's another one.

According to Jim: I don't even know how that show was green lit.

Smallville. 4 seasons was enough. The episodes that I see now do not have the same feel as the original ones. They feel like retreads of retreads.

Law and Order: Dick Wolfe doesn't even try anymore. One week it's a headline. The next week, L&O is christening the story with their own episode.

L&O Criminal Intent: How does it stay on the air?

Survivor: It's enough. It's over. No more.

The Amazing Race: Horrible show.

Big Brother: I don't know who finds this show interesting, but to each his own.

While I wont say it's been on too long, because it's only been on for two seasons, i will say i really dont understand the appeal of Mad Men. I mean, it gets accoldes right and left, and maybe I just dont get it, but I think it's boring as ****. I've attempted watching it on multiple occasions, but I feel like someone is playing a big joke on me or something.

I disagree as well.

Lost has gotten better and better since it's epic series premire, and I can't get enough of it. It's had me hooked from the start and has never caused me to lose interest in it or be disappointed with it.

As for shows I feel have been/were on too long:

The Simpsons-It lost it's charm on/off, they should just end it

Buffy-I personally felt it should have ended with Season 5. Season 6 was horrible, and while Season 7 was a great improvement and well done...the ending is kind of dumb when you think about it (even though it was also very very cool). The comic continuation, Season 8, is very far-fetched and lacking to me...I only stuck with it for the Fray crossover and will likely dump it after that has concluded...

Smallville-The show seemed to go from being entertaining...so spiralling downhill and never looking back.

CSI - Never watched the show, but when I heard the lead dude was leaving, that's when you're suppose to end it. Now Morphius is in it. End it. Now.

Well the latest Episode I saw Grissom was still in the season. And that was this Season I don't know when the guy is leaving.

i completely disagree! smallville and the simpsons are very good right now! there was a while where the simpsons dropped it but i think it's on top of it's game again. smallville is better than it has been.

what needs to end:

csi
law and order
survivor
king of the hill (i love KOH, but i hate what they are doing to louanne!)

Ok this makes no sense, how can you say a shows been on to long if you dont even know if its in production? That means you havent seen an episode lately. Most of you are basing something being on to long if its been years its been on, base it on quality and story.

American Idol
Survivor
Dancing WithThe Stars
The Biggest Loser
America's Next Top Model
The Amazing Race
Desperate Housewives
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

Nip/Tuck has become pretty boring. After the whole Carver storyline was over, I don't think they knew what to do with the series and so they just tried doing random things to try and shock people, none of which were very interesting.

I also haven't liked The Shield since the Kavanaugh storyline. That killed the series for me.

I have to agree with you on Nip/Tuck. The season with the Carver was the sign they were going down hill. The cop leading the investigation was questioning Cristian in the interrogation room, the same cop he was have sex with. Isn't that a conflict of interest? I don't know much about the laws, but that did not look right.

As for the Shield, it's great right now. SPOILERS: Shane is on the run for trying to kill his partner. Only a few more episodes left, enjoy it while you can.

Sex and the City lasted 94 episodes and 1 movie too long.

Smallville. I cant beleive its still on, 8 seasons later

Definetly Real World.

No... they really should.
