World Two things I didn't like from Donner's version.

this is like the Army of darkness of superman movies, it may not be at 100% but it still is fun as hell to watch.

so if you don't like Donners Superman II, you don't like Army of Darkness.

The sequence of the location shoot at Niagara Falls for this cut didn't make any sense. Other than that the film worked!

What does Army of Darkness have to do with Superman?

It made sense to me. Why didn't it make sense to you?

Lois notices that Clark looks like Superman when his glasses are off, and she sees the resemblance and then just brushes it off and says, "You hungry?" Lois has been trying to prove that Clark is Superman, why'd she brush it off. She should of looked bewildered, she looked that way before they left in that moment where she brushes it off. Then the next time you see them together she's pointing a gun at him.

Oh I see! Yeah...in the Lester version that's when she first notices that he's Superman. But, here she had already noticed before.

Well, what can I say? The movie ain't perfect. Donner never finished. They did the best they could.

I know, but it's still great isn't it. :)

I re-watched the film. And, yeah, I still dislike certain things but you have to remember that it isn't their fault. Donner never finished the film. They did the best they could with what they had.

It's a real shame. It really seemed like Superman II could have been the best.

Tom and Dick wanted to make 7 films together too. :csad:

Yeah, I should have mentioned that when I re-watched the film it was actually through the commentary track.

And, to reply to your quote...I'm a bit divided on that. While it would have been AWESOME to see Dick & Tom continue with this franchise I can't help but think that things turned out for the best. Donner is an amazing director. He's one of my favorites. The man directed Ladyhawke, The Goonies, Lethal Weapon series, Maverick, etc. All those were brilliant films in their own right. So, if Donner had never been fired and would have continued with this franchise would he have made those other films? That's something you have to ask yourself. Cause, atleast, with someone like Tim Burton you aren't running that risk. Tim Burton could have continued with the Batman franchise and still made those other movies in-between. Would Donner have done the same or done like Sam Raimi and made back-to-back movies?

Anyone see a difference? It looks like they ran out of money to finish the visual effects on Jor-El.

I guess! However, I like the way Jor-EL looks in Donner's Superman II. My favorite shot is the wide one with Brando's profile on the right and Hackman on the left. I love it! Try to get a still from that, please.

Thanks, man! That's the best shot in the entire movie. I can't explain why. I just love it!

Here you go!

I'm a professional camera operator and I agree that it is indeed an incredible shot. Why? Because Brando is HUGE and powerful and is looking down at Hackman who is small and weak. You get the message? Brando is GOOD and looking down at evil.

^ That shot is fantastic. I can't believe the Salkinds cut all of Brando's footage for the theatrical version of the movie, just to save money.

In the Donner Cut, Are we to assume that the bully in the diner remembered Clark from before or would it have been as if they had never originally met since Superman turned back time so then Clark goes back to the diner in the end just to pick a fight over something that the bully probably didn't even remember?

Is it just me or does Zod's voice sound different in the Donner Cut? In the theatrical version his voice sounded altered to make him sound deeper & more powerful but in the Donner Cut his voice seems to fluctuate between this sound & a normal sounding voice.

My theory is that by the time they shot that scene it was decided put the world turned around scene in part 1. But, since Donner never finished the film they just pretty much sticked it in even though it doesn't make much sense.

I agree with you. I watched half of SR after this and was struck with how bland Brandon was. He had the similar look but there was something missing in his expressions that Chris had.

Even in the screen test there were all those expressions. As Superman he exhuded Power and Majesty. Just without flying, or doing anything but standing there. You felt he had "it" to protect the world. (Looks like (Superman is) a job for Christopher Reeve.)

Once a girl's seen Superman in action, Niagara Falls kinda leaves you cold.

truly there is no comparison with reeve, he was the best, awesome![/quote]

I was agreeing with superduper (in my above message, ) when he said "truly there is no comparison with reeve, he was the best, awesome:

yeah it sort of bothers me that they went through all this trouble to get the film, resore it, etc., but then skimped on some of the effects - but still I am happy to have it. Regarding the Niagra scene Lois probably brushed it off because she was going to give him a real test back in the hotel room with the gun... I wish that scene had been filmed.

I understand what Thau and Donner were trying to do. But, honestly, if it were me I would have just finished the movie. The technology is there. For the hotel room scene for instance...they could have gotten the screentest (as they did) and with the computer just add in a good background. You get what I'm saying?

I get it, and agree! It's Superman for crying out load, bust out the check book!

All Warners had to do is pick up the phone and call George Lucas. "Mr. Lucas, can you give Superman II the Star Wars treatment?"
