World Two things I didn't like from Donner's version.

Another thing is they cut out the defacing of Mount Rushmore & added in the destruction of the Washington Monument when both scenes could have worked. The President pretty much says the same line about how "it took years to build & destroyed in a matter of seconds" or something like that but the line still worked better when it was originally meant to refer to the destruction & defacing of Mount Rushmore.

I always hated the "turning back time" ending. It never made sense in the first one and it doesn't make sense now. I can suspend disbelief enough to accept that an alien came to Earth and became Superman. But I can't accept that he could turn back time by turning the world backwards. I think a more realistic ending would involve Supes "trying" to turn back time in this manner only to discover that he has killed millions of people with the havoc he wreaked on our planet.

Seriously, though. I don't have the movie yet. It should arrive tonight and I can't wait!

Don't worry, man. Someone will fix the ending and upload it to YouTube.

The defacing Mount Rushmore scene was corny, with one bolt of heat vision they sculpted their faces, how silly.

I agree. Donner's idea was better. It's like he said on the commentary, "he took the comic for face value instead of the art" or something of that nature.

I like it, I think it's cool.

If you like it so much then include it in the Kevin Roegele version of Superman II.

I liked seeing the Donner version but since it was incomplete it felt choppy in some scene's. I never liked the turning back time thing, I mean if something goes wrong why would Superman just not turn back time every time, there are no consequenes for his actions. I liked seeing the new scene's but missed some of the old ones. The "General, you care to step outside" was replaced by "haven't you every heard of Freedom of the press", that was horrible. The also got rid of the arm wrestling scene, which I always thought was corny but I did kind of miss it. With the three villians I like it better when they lost there powers and were gone, with the Donner version they are just back in the phantom zone and still have their powers, plenty of chances left to excape, which might have been good for more sequels but I still didn't like it.

Kevin will fix that.

The thing i noticed about the Donner version is that it could have been more of a serious themed movie other than camp. Look at Non, notice how he doesnt act like a child in Donners version with the silly grunts & showing off to Zod, plus everybodys stupid one liners were cut out. You guys have to remember it is incomplete & im sure alot would have been done differently & fit perfect, Donner showed us what could have been, which was a great movie.

I would have liked it much better if Superman tried to turn back the Earth and instead of changing time back he actually destroyed all of Earth, creating massive Earth quakes and killing off all human life, and then we see him standing on a destroyed planet and saying to himself, "Boy this really didn't turn out how I had planned".

That was one of the many comic moments from the original version that always bothered me. It was like something out of a Bugs Bunny cartoon and out of place in the movie. If they had simply destroyed the carvings at Mount Rushmore it would have been better than them recarving it.

Another note on things....some of the comments here amaze me....the WB has put out money, time, and effort for people to totaly rework one of their films from over 25 yeaqrs ago.....and people on here are complaining that the WB didn't do enough. Watch the making of this DVD extra....it wasn't simply a case of - "oh, here is the piece of film you need, just scotch tape it in where you think it goes".....they spent an enprmous amount of time and money to do this. It was a lot of hard work to restore old stored film stock, rematch the audio, and the like.

As Donner says in the commentary...."We actually know that this would result in everyone and everything flying off of the earth out into space....but we were making a movie not a documentary."

The defacing was always silly - what heat vision sculpts as well? destruction is much more realistic.

is it true that in this new version, Supes sleeps with Lois BEFORE giving up his powers? When then does he give up his powers? Afterwards?

One thing I want to do is give Non a roar when he's released from the Phantom Zone. It has that in the original script and I was hoping Donner would include it.

Your powers of deduction are beyond compare.

umm....ok.......mind you, I haven't seen the film yet, just clarifying what I've read here.

well, at least this Superman didn't get into Lois' pants until after she found out he was clark.......unlike SR's Superman.....lol.

If you watch the Donner cut, it's explained. The sex HAS to come before Supes' gives up his powers. This is because Superman doesn't give up his powers to have sex with Lois - that would cheapen the character; to give up his power to save lives so he can shag. No, the point is Supes wants a life he can devote to Lois and not to all humanity.

Because of his heroic nature, Superman couldn't devote his life to Lois no matter how hard he tried. He would always help people in need. The only way to stop himself is by taking away his powers, which Jor-El does.

But when Clark realises the mistake he's made, he finally understands that he's on earth for a higher purpose. No matter how strong you found the Christianity themes in Superman Returns, they are even stronger in these parts of the Donner cut.

It all makes sense in the Donner cut. It's beautiful.
