World Two things I didn't like from Donner's version.

oh...ok....so that means he still gives up his powers to be with the woman he loves.

and Supes understanding his purpose on earth makes it even more illogical that he would up and leave earth for 5+ years in SR, abandoning earth and Lois and his mom, etc.

But, with the reversing time ending, doesn't it negate all that happened in SR2?

I understand he destroys the FOS so no one can abuse its power again. But, then he reverses time, so that means the FOS is back in order?????

If you watch the Donner cut, it's explained. The sex HAS to come before Supes' gives up his powers. This is because Superman doesn't give up his powers to have sex with Lois - that would cheapen the character; to give up his power to save lives so he can shag. No, the point is Supes wants a life he can devote to Lois and not to all humanity.

Because of his heroic nature, Superman couldn't devote his life to Lois no matter how hard he tried. He would always help people in need. The only way to stop himself is by taking away his powers, which Jor-El does.

But when Clark realises the mistake he's made, he finally understands that he's on earth for a higher purpose. No matter how strong you found the Christianity themes in Superman Returns, they are even stronger in these parts of the Donner cut.

It all makes sense in the Donner cut. It's beautiful.

That's the best explanation I've read.

he undoes the whole movie, Zod and his are sent back to phantom zone, lois forgets what happened, they undo all the damage done to the world and only superman knows what happened.

i like the use of turning back time in the first movie it only undid lois dieing and and dam.

The end scene at the diner still makes sense. Even though he has turned back time...he remembers what happened (whereas others don't). He's at the Daily Planet, when a big guy bumps into Clark...Clark says his usual excuse me, but the guy still threatens him....so, Superman decides to go pay the bully a visit and teach hima lesson.

And the part where he says he has been working out still fits in. Sure, the diner owner doesn't remember the bully beating him up....but he has to try and explain to the guy why he can beat up the bully that everyone knows is strong.

But the diner guy says I just had this place fixed up:woot:

Rocky always picks a fight at the diner, that's why the owner said he just had the place fixed up. just use your imagination. :D

Yeah, I thought that too. Made the line a little funnier, because you have to imagine he'd already caused a fight before.

He deserved it anyway, and Clark knew it. We knew it too. And even though Clark's beatdown was technically reversed, it still happened to Clark since he exists outside of the space-time continuum.
but he didnt do it.he didnt deserve it since he didnt do it.

Chuck Norris would have killed him and then turned back just so he could kill him again.

Why is it that the zoom out coming soon titles the commercial for the Superman saga on the Look Up in the Skly disc has a better zoom out effect and looks more like STM's zoom out title then the vendor they chose to do the opening titles for the Donner cut? Why couldn't they have used that vendor?

But he's still a bully who needs a comeuppance, and Clark couldn't do it the first time.

When he shows up at the time he beats down Clark....the waitress says something like - "Oh no, here's Rocky again." He's a regular troublemaker there...he's a bully....there's no telling how many times he's had to fix the place and is too scared of Rocky to say anything qabout it.

You cn tell by his actions...and the actions of the regulars at the diner....that he is a bully who regularily causes trouble....he deserved to be put into his place.

I was hoping the scene where he and Lois are watching movies of himself as a baby on the holodeck and also the scene where he takes Lois to bed and there is an exterior shot of the fortress at night and you hear Lois yelling "Oh Superman!" in orgasm. Trust me it is in the script. That was a funny scene that I wished had been in the movie. I wonder why it wasn't? I thought they shot all of the Fortress stuff for both movies before they struck the set.

Personally i thought Donners cut was great. But the movie just jumps around to much. The original just dose flow better. another thing i find wrong with the movie. Is alot of the Romance scenes are cut out. Witch for me made it hard to feel that Superman and Lois had that close of a connection. The added scene with Brando were all great especially the part where Superman loses and regains his power. I think that using the turn-back-time thing again was a little stupid and dose make the scene at end to basicly make no sence. Even if he had it coming. Overall i think the new verison is better. But as for the flow of the movie. I would have to give it to the original. Either way Donners cut is far better then Superman Returns.

To all you people who are watching the Donner cut: Did you buy the 14 disc set to get this or are they selling it seperately where you live b/c I haven't seen it anywhere??

Separately. I refuse to support SR beyond my initial matinee ticket price back in June. I'll get the Reeve collection eventually to complete the Superman movies for my DVD library.

thats yor opinion, but its a ******ed opinion.

I bought the 14-disc collection, more for the extras and "Returns" than much else. The Donner Cut upset me a bit, so I'm working on my own "fan edit"...we'll see how it turns out.

Hmmm well I'd have to say I agree with those who say the turning back time thing is the biggest problem with the donner cut. It's like the whole movie never happened :wow:

Other than that, it owns.

I don't like that Supes turned the Earth around in 2. The first time it was done because he loved Lois and she was dead. He was heartbroken and desperate and would do anything to have her back. His scream while he was laying next to her body says it all.

In 2, it seems unnecessary. I know he did it so Lois wouldn't remember he was Supes but it just doesn't have the desperation that he had in the first film.

i liked how superman just killed lex when he blew up the FOS.

Did you totally miss the scene where the Police were taking Lex away??

That wasn't in the final cut of the picture. It is a deleted scene, but it isn't in the final picture. The way the scene is edited makes it look like he blows the Fortress up with Lex in it.

The movie could have also done without Ms.Teschmacher going to the bathroom in the FOS & then hearing the sound effect of a toilet flushing in the background. She & Lex were in one of the coldest parts of the world so even if the FOS was equipped with a toilet it would have been frozen solid, plus the idea of having a toilet in the FOS all together was just stupid & should have been cut out.
