Ty Burrell Is Doc Samson

Yes but that's a CURRENTLY airing tv-show. Hulk comes out next year and even so I'm talking about a sequel which is probably 3 or 4 years even after that. He doesn't need to bulk up much anyway. Brock Sampson wasn't exactly Hulk sized. Just a big dude like Superman or Batman. Or a better comparison yet, Captain America.

He can wear some prosthetic muscles, like Vinnie Jones doing The Juggernaut. And, with a pair of heels he will easily be around 6' 4''.
And there's a big guy!

That works too. With some CG enhancements I'm sure it can look flawless even.

But hey, maybe this is a glorified cameo. A nod to the fans.

Superman, Batman, Captain America are all between 200-240 pounds. That's big, even by Bodybuilding and powerlifting standards. Most guys are lucky to crack 200.

nail.on.head. You hit it. Congrats.

That's basically, from the script review, what I take from this.

Am I mad? No, not really. If I wrote a Hulk film, Samson would probably just be a Psychiatrist...some cameo role. However, I am disappointed. I get real tired of these cameos where the name is put on a guy who looks nothing like the character. Trask, Dr. Stom, Gyrich, and several others have been kind of throwaway cameos.

I'd much prefer a cameo where I looked at the person playing him/her and went "yeah, okay...that's him"

Who should've played Doc Samson

John C McGinley: He's played both a tough, no nonsense enforcer (Se7en, The Rock) and also proven himself effective as a doc ("Scrubs"). Despite his age of 48, he is still in phenomenal shape, and could conceivably bulk up if the role ever required.

Maybe he will look like this:

^Not bad.

Henry Rollins would've been an interesting choice for Samson as well, considering that Ed Norton idolizes him.

Yes, but Henry Rollins isn't that great actor...
Anyway, Norton and Burrell already have work together, in Down In The Valley. This is influential, IMO. Maybe he found some kind of particular alchemy with him. That's good.

I'm not disparaging his acting talent. I've actually liked him in what I've seen of his work. In Samson's case, however, I'd wish they'd cast someone who looked the part at least...sadly, that's not the case.

If I had my way though, Russell Crowe would be Samson...he'd be awesome...it would never happen though. I realize someone on Ty Burrells level of fame/price range is who they would go for on this sorta part.

I like the casting

However I am worried, that characters like Samson or Leader are getting actors that aren't draws, where they will clearly be main characters in sequels

ehhh....I think it's a good choice if we're sticking with just the pre-gamma Doc, which I think might be the case (I didn't read any of the script so I'm just going off of my own assumptions) I just don't see them establishing Doc Samson along with the Abomination & Banner all in the same movie as super powered beings, at least I hope not. I'd like to think this film will be good enough to warrant a sequel where things can be fleshed out in greater detail. The Doc is a very essential character to the psychology & scientific aspect of Bruce's transformation, not to mention the romantic "tension" between him & Betty if they choose to go that route...

Actually as pre-Gamma Samson...I think you're right. Ty actually does look like pre-Gamma Samson.

...huh...Good eye for casting, right there.

Yeah, I was wrong it's not bad. If they decide to go the Gamma Doc Samson later on though, it'll be interesting...considering this guy goes from "young Fraiser Crane" to Triple-H in one issue.

You know... A lot of people were saying that Lou Ferrigno should be Doc Samson, and at the time I thought that was pretty ridiculous, but I just realized something...

I could totally buy that those were the same guy. I know the script already had Lou's cameo spelled out, so unless that has changed it can't really happen, but I could completely see Lou as the post-gamma Samson to Burrell's pre-gamma Samson.

Not too exicited I don't think he fits the part.

I think its great casting, but in that last paragraph he sounds like a bit of a ***** lol.

Does anyone feel it'd be silly if Samson wound up having the same powers as the biblical Samson? I wouldn't mind just having him be Banner's psychiatrist, with minor superstrength.

I'm sorry, but he looks really feminine and queer in the teaser trailer.

Reminds me of what I thought of the Hulk in 03, OOOOOOOOOOH.

(I am kidding, stand down people, I just couldn't resist. :woot:)
