I like it. A legacy hero can be anyone. What's more important is how this develops.

An all-new character would be fine. A black or Latino character would be cool, but "half-black, half-Hispanic" is KIND OF LAME and not even a race that exists.

Unless the covers are glow-in-the-dark or come with free CD singles or the entire thing is made out of holograms, I probably won't buy it (also cause I haven't read Ultimate Spidey in years and I don't really like Bendis anyway).

This in no way makes up for Donald Glover not being cast in the now completely superfluous movie reboot.

I'm kinda digging this new Spider-Man identity, but I'm more [BLACKOUT]distressed that they made up a new guy to be Spider-Man instead of putting a known character in the role. Like, honestly? I was really hoping the new Spider-Man would be Hobie Brown. [/BLACKOUT]

The reveal puts the new Ultimate Spider-Man right up there with [BLACKOUT]the new Power-Man [/BLACKOUT]for me. Nothing to invest, nothing of interest. Do what you want with the guy, create all the subplots and supporting cast you want - Ultimate was originally intended to be new spin on old characters. This isn't that. Or at least it's the loosest interpretation of that premise, ever.

I think this is great. I love ult.Peter and I'm going to miss him like all of us are. I trust Bendis and I know this will be great (I hope so) he has never let me down on this book so I guess wait and see. That's all we really can do.

Or Marvel simply does the smarter thing and promotes the new ongoing alongside the trade paperbacks. You aint seeing Black Widow making a comeback in Ultimate Marvel due to Scarlet Johansson.

While I get what they are trying to do I would have just went with Ben Reily and fans would have had less of a problem with that and they still could have proved their point instead of going with a new guy altogether. Also if they wanted to prove that point then the Ultimate Universe should have been more diverse from the starting point not just starting now.

The race isn't an issue, my problem is that I am not at all interested in a Spider-Man that isn't Peter Parker. While all the other new Ultimate books look pretty cool, Ultimate Spider-Man never caught my eye simply because Peter Parker isn't Spider-Man.

That's two out of how many classic heroes could have been done? I mean you could have made Daredevil, any of the X-Men, Captain America, or any other hero a different race. Hell IMO with this restart DC is dong or their Earth One line that would have been a perfect chance to do the same thing as how they planned to do at one time after COIE with Earth D they had. I just think times have changed and their is more room for big time heroes that are not just white.

They could have made the guy any ethnicity they liked. It being said they chose to go multi-ethnic to reflect this that and the other is neither here nor there - but they should have (IMO) have stuck to a prior existing character. Hell, even Moonknight trying to overdevelop one of his personalities to fill the void would have been a better fit

well marvel have lost my interest completely in the ultimate universe now.
i can get them wanting to bring a new character in but why make him spider-man,he could still be in this but not be spidey..the fact that they killed him and replaced him so fast shows a total lack of respect for the character.
time will show that certain character have to stay the same...steve roger is captain america,logan is wolverine,scott summers is cyclops,peter parker is spidey.
i understand shaking things up..but do they really have to kill there most popular character to do so..and not really even in a blaze of glory.

give me 616 anyday..the home of real marvel.

How is it disrespectful when they've had entire issues dedicated to his funeral? And ofcourse someone would replace the void fast because the hero is needed, because people wish to honor him. This wasn't a secret death, no. This was a death of a hero on the public and the entire world learned that Spider-Man was a honest to good heart teenager, ofcourse that would inspire someone.

We could potentially have Ben Reilly returning as Pete next year (or even sooner if this kid revealed as spidey turns out to be a one mission deal who realises he's not going to last but had good intentions). The guy helped invent the Carnage suit, and it was based on Parker DNA but needed to stabilise. Maybe he has another crack at it and uses data from Octavius' Parker cloning project to attempt to stabilise the DNA in his Carnage 2.0. But on donning the suit it instead over-rights his DNA with that of Peter, adds Pete's memories to his own, thus confusing him about who he is.

THIS IS NOT THE 616 UNIVERSE. The Ultimate Universe tends to play for keeps. You die and you stay dead. Why would they bring Peter back for the Amazing Spiderman? They have the 616 spidey to use. They have the guy with a book that comes out 3 times a month. They have the guy who is on the avengers which means he's out 4 times a month. Thats not counting the new event at that point in time.

Remember what happened when Iron Man 2 came out? They did promote the black widow........in the 616 universe. She got her come comic and had more appearances.
War machine got his own comic.

Marvel doesn't need to change the Ultimate Universe for the movies. Hell they use the Ultimate universe as a way to manipulate the movies(Hawkeye's movie costume).

I don't see how this insult the Peter Parker character. They aren't changing things across the board. Its one comic and they have done this from the start. They manipulate characters. This time they have chosen to remove Peter but keep in Spiderman.

Investment? Why should you have less investment with the new guy then Ultimate Peter Parker. Is it because he's not white? They aren't pulling a Ben Reilly where Peter is gone everywhere. The Ultimate Universe was created the change up things.

Why I support this. Marvel finally took the opportunity to address and glaringly bad problem. They have black characters.......But many of them are C list and below. Panther and Storm are AFRICAN. I'm African American, yeah these characters are black but its like trying to relate to some dude from Sweden. Luke Cage and Falcon are former convicts(.....great..). Captain Marvel? Umm not Captain Marvel in any shape or form.
War Machine is probably the best one to have come out of this.

The problem addressed here is finally the main role is a non white character. I do wish they may have used a name like Ben Reilly or that of 2099 but whatever. Some people may go "Well that PC" or something like that. If your not a minority then you don't get it.

Then you may ask why not Asian or something? Well then your not Black. Blacks in America do not get the same treatment as asians or others. Also we don't have a whole lot of media devoted to us. There may be few asian superheroes in american comics.........but umm Manga? Asian Television? Asian American representation is low. African *insert country of origin* worldwide is downright low unless its about starving children in africa.

I agree that there needs to be better representation in comics, but making Spider-Man into a new half-black, half-"Hispanic" character seems just a bit forced and lame. Definitely if Bendis were going to kill Peter off, I say make him another race for a change of pace, but it really seems like they are covering all bases by making him black and "Hispanic". It makes the whole death of Parker angle come off as more of a stunt to just squeeze as much diversity in as humanly possible. Like just being black or latino isn't good enough. And with this much diversity already, I'd like to hope he is bi AT LEAST.

Secondly, I know there hasn't been any new characters to become very popular in like 20 years, but it would be much more respectful to the new character to not have to take the torch off a white guy. I'm not entirely sure I get the point you're trying to make but I'mm pretty sure I disagree with it.
