Ultimate One Universe - Genesis: Sign-Up/OOC Thread

Alright, I think I've got it down to a two horse race between The Flash and Iron Man. On the one hand, The Flash was the first thing that came to mind. On the other hand, that Age of Ultron trailer today has me salivating over the beautiful potential that the Armored Avenger presents...

I'll probably have a decision at some point tomorrow, then I'll start workshopping an application.

Iron Man! I need to have Bruce's high school frenemy billionare in this game, damn it!

I'm going to severely regret this...

"Heyyyyy aaayyyyy ya'll. Wade Wilson, Merc with a Mouth here. I'm gonna walk you through Syn's poorly contrived idea for a Mercenary backstory for his favorite DC villain. Let's hope this makes sense - because if I'M narrating, it'll probably be muddled in a pool of ****. Not a pool of Dead, like me. ... Wow, alright - Retrospect - like, straight up? I don't know what ever possessed me to choose that name."

Ultimate One Universe
Character Application

Character Name: Slade Wilson

Alignment (Hero, Villain, Walking the Line): Villain

Character Speech Font and Color: This

Character Origin/Backstory:

So Slade has multiple personality disorder, or the more sexy term, DID- Dissociative Identity Disorder. He's got a few personalities I'm gonna work you through.

Slade Wilson: (The Base Personality)
American Soldier extraordinaire. Slade Wilson earned his retirement fighting in the service of the United States Army as a special ops Colonel.

During his last mission, Slade was severely injured from an IED.

Slade was given two options: 1) Retire with an honorable discharge. 2) Try out for a special super soldier experiment which could heal his wounds and make him into a better soldier than he ever was.

Slade, unfortunately, was in a coma. His wife, Adeline, made the choice for him. She enlisted him as a candidate for Project: Grudge. The super soldier formula worked as Slade's body accepted the chemical concoction. Within weeks his body was fully healed. His limbs regrown, his wounds sealed with no scars, his youth restored to the age of 25, and his body stronger than ever before.

Unfortunately, the formula had some unexpected side-effects. Slade's mental state was fragmented. Each component of his personality was spliced into 4 separate personalities.

His base personality (Slade Wilson). The Superego: The soldier. Codename: Slade
His combative, cocky, ruthless side. His Ego. David North - codename: Maverick
His sarcastic, witty, wild, crazed side: Wade Wilson - Codename: Deadpool
The least expressed personality. His killer side. Uncontrollable. Murderous. Pure Id: Deathstroke.

At first, even Slade wasn't sure what had happened to his mental clarity. The 4 personalities slowly developed over time. Slade kept these personalities secret and worked for the military for 10 more years before finally retiring. The story of his Wife Adeline and his family is unknown.

This was 30 years ago.

The story brings us to now. Slade has joined a ruthless mercenary force known as the Wild Pack. The group is led by a mysterious figure known as The Shroud.

Domino: Neena Thurman. Expert marksman with the ability to manipulate probability. Exiled and hated as a mutant, she finds her home as an outcast.

Cable: Nathan Winters. Telepath. Technopath. A mutant suffering amnesia, Cable doesn't remember his history nor his future. (Whatever that means.) Cable is also part cyborg, granting him enhanced strength and marksmen skills.

Killer Frost: Crystal Frost. A metahuman with a criminal record. Once her abilities manifested in college, Crystal turned to a life of crime and never looked back. She found a niche in being a 'gun' for hire. What she lacks in skill, she makes up for in superhuman abilities - specifically cold and ice manipulation.

Powers and Abilities: Superhuman reflexes. Master marksmen, martial arts expert, master tactician. Superhuman healing. Inodorosity (No discernible scent). Multilingual. Advanced ability to learn. Master of stealth.

As Maverick: Anti-healing factor corrosive, kinetic absorption.
As Deadpool: Breaking the 4th Wall

What Makes This Version "Ultimate": I've combined Deadpool, Deathstroke, (and Maverick) into one psychotic, murderous, killing machine. In addition, because I have Cable on the team, I intend on doing stories categorized as "Cable and Deathstroke."

What can you bring to the RPG: This is going to be a weird mix of noir stories and crazy sci-fi exploitation. Also comedy.

Sample Post (provide a short post of at least 3 paragraphs and 1 line of dialogue for your character): (Coming after my 8am)

We're going to have to talk. :woot:

Well... we have a Hank Pym *hint, hint*

And a super powerful crime fighting computer in a certain cave...

I'll have the finale to my Firebug arc up in the next few days. I know I'm going a bit quick with it, but I'm trying to get Sentarous set up for the birth of Huntress ASAP.

I remember when applications on here used to ask how many times you could post a day, so there's definitely no need to worry about being too quick about posting.

True, I just don't want to burn through my stories while everyone else is just getting started.

Fair enough.

I've written about ten posts ahead (I've been sick, don't judge me) so I think I'm just happy whenever there have been three to four posts so I don't feel like too much of a no-life posting again.

I might pick up a main hero or villain if I get the right inspiration as well, so you don't need to burn through your arcs for my benefit. I just don't know who I'd pick if I did. Plus I have a few RPs on other sites too.

EDIT: Helena Part 2, but I'll likely edit it later tonight to fluff it out a bit. Pretty much inconsequential fluff though.

So yea. That post was done on my PS4, so formatting is basically impossible. I'll edit it next chance I get with a real computer

Five IC posts in a single day?

Work has begun on my application. I'm still researching and tweaking things, trying to find new and interesting ways to weave together characters from both universes, but it'll be coming soon.

Every time you post Alison Brie winking at me makes me swoon. I've come to associate only good things with an Eddie post.

Operant conditioning is real.

I'm still very much in this. Just bought a new laptop over the weekend, and had to factory reset my phone.

Posts to come in th coming few days, Marvel takes priority short term though since I'm keeping someone waiting.

Following that though... The good times, they shall roll.

Just bought a new laptop over the weekend
That'll be me by year's end. My laptop recently had a hard drive failure, had to reinstall Windows, and it hasn't been the same since. Using it now is like visiting that aging relative. You can see the faculties shutting down slowly, and you know the end is near...

"It's me, Eddie."

"MB..?"

"No, Eddie."

"MST3K..?"

"No... no... it'll be alright, computer..."

*Tearfully smothers with pillow*

"Sleep now..."

Whoa, that's not cool.

You can't go around getting old person smell on perfectly good pillows. That never comes out.

I'm also a new member of the new computer club. Hooray!

So that took a while. Hope you guys enjoyed some of the threads I'm setting up.

What's next is the fun part.

Ultimate One Universe

Character Application

Character Name: Barry Allen / The Flash

Alignment (Hero, Villain, Walking the Line): Hero

Character Speech Font and Color: Red Trebuchet MS for Barry / Bold Red Trebuchet MS for Flash

Powers and Abilities: Barry is an expert in forensic science and chemistry, though he also possesses some level of aptitude in the other physical sciences as well.

Following the accident which gave him his powers, Barry's body generates a quantum energy field known only as the Speed Force. This seemingly endless source of energy allows Barry to move at superhuman speeds (the limit of which is not known) and perceive the passage of time accordingly. The Speed Force also grants Barry immunity to the effects of friction, as well as affording a certain level of protection against high-speed collisions or impacts. Additionally, Barry's metabolism is supercharged, granting him accelerated healing at the cost of requiring a near constant caloric intake.

Barry's speed allows him to perform numerous amazing feats, including (but not limited to): running on water, running up sheer surfaces, creating a vortex by running (or spinning his arms) in a circle, and vibrating his individual molecules so quickly that he becomes virtually intangible.

Character Origin/Backstory: Barry Allen was born to Henry and Nora Allen in suburban Missouri, just outside of Central City. Growing up, Barry always had an affinity for stories about heroes and the battle between good and evil. His father told him all about Captain America and the Invaders, real life superheroes who fought in WWII before coming home to form the Justice Society of America. Beyond the colored pages of vintage comic books, though, Barry had a hero of his own: his father, Henry, a detective in the Central City Police Department.

One night when Barry was only ten years old, he heard a loud noise coming from inside his house just as he was going to sleep. Shuffling downstairs, the young Barry found the house in shambles: furniture thrown about, papers scattered across the floor, windows shattered. At the center of it all, a sobbing Henry held the lifeless body of his wife, Nora, Barry's mother. Her neck had been snapped. When the police arrived, they took Henry into custody. After a lengthy court proceeding, Henry Allen was judged guilty of murdering his wife.

Barry became a ward of the state, and he was taken in by John and Libby Chambers. The Chambers had a daughter of their own, Jesse, who was five years younger than Barry. Although Barry was quite happy with his new foster family, even slipping into a protective older brother role with Jesse, he could never quite shake the feeling that his father had been wrongly convicted. John Chambers, a mathematician by trade, encouraged Barry to study science, which led to an interest in forensic work. Barry realized that even if he couldn't clear his father's name, he could work to save others from suffering the same fate.

What Makes This Version "Ultimate": Well, obviously with the merging of the universes, there will be changes to Barry's supporting cast - as well as the villains he faces. I'll also be trying to take the best of the various tellings and re-tellings of Barry's story, as well as unifying the grand majority of speedsters from both universes.

What can you bring to the RPG: Damn near eight years of roleplaying experi-- wait a minute, that can't be right. Eight years? Sweet Christmas. Anyway, I think most of you know me by now. I'm always challenging myself to be a better writer/planner/what-have-you, but at the end of the day I just try to have fun with this. And if we get to collaborate together on something, all the better!

Sample Post (provide a short post of at least 3 paragraphs and 1 line of dialogue for your character):

My name is Barry Allen, and I am the fastest man alive.

Sometimes, the best thing about life is how completely unpredictable it can be. Three weeks ago, I was - by all accounts - just an ordinary guy. I rode the bus to work where I performed forensic analysis for the Central City Police Department. A largely unheralded job, outside of a half-dozen wildly inaccurate TV dramas, but that was fine with me. I didn't get into this line of work for the acclaim or the glory. I just wanted to use my talents and passion for science to help people. I like to think that I was even pretty good at it, enough to get hired at my age for a full-time position - though I suppose my father's former connections in the department didn't hurt there.

Anyway, as I was trying to say, outside of visiting a few crime scenes a week, my life was pretty normal by anyone's definition. But I know now how quickly things can change... You see, there was this accident. I don't have time to get into all the details right now, but something changed that night. Something inside me. Someone much smarter than me tells me that my body generates a "quantum energy field." I like to call it the Speed Force. And, well, as I said at the beginning, I'm now the fastest man alive. And when I say that, I'm not talking about running a four minute mile.

More like a four second mile.

Yet somehow, in spite of all that, I still find a way to be running late. Of course, nowadays it's for completely different reasons. It isn't because I overslept my first alarm or because I stood in the shower for twenty-five minutes. It's more because there was a robbery on 5th, then a carjacking across the Van Buren Bridge, then a three-alarm fire in Windsor Heights, then... well, you get the picture. And all of that leads us to the present moment, where--

"Allen! You're late."

"Yes, Director Singh," I acknowledge, "it's just that my--"

"I don't want to hear your excuses, Allen," Director Singh sneers as he continues to walk past me. "The call went out for a double homicide ten minutes ago. How quickly can you get down to the CCU campus?"

I rub the back of my neck. "Uhhh... fairly quickly," I answer evasively.

"Then stop standing around here and do it."

"Right away, sir." I spin on my heel and start making for the door. Just then, James Forrest - our DNA analyst - steps into the station carrying a box of donuts. When he makes eye contact with me, he opens his mouth, but I hold up a hand to stop him. "Can't talk, Forrest..."

"Gotta run."

Glad Eddie's back. If you're up for a team up sometime soon, let me know.

As for my Slade app, I'll need some more patience. Currently doing 3 lab reports and 4 written assignments for College.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing more of your Riddler too, Carnage. (That wasn't meant to sound like a euphemism)

And damn the slow burn is starting to wear on me. Reading everybody else prancing around in tights beating up on bad guys is giving me super hero envy. I feel like a grounded kid watching his friends playing outside, especially since I've written up to that point with Matt but I'm still some way away from being able to post it.

Hey, Helena isn’t in tights or whatever yet…
