Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception - Part 1

You have to shoot the pot that is lying by the empty well.

Is the art book in the Special Edition worth the extra £4, £5? Or should I stick to the normal edition?

EDIT: Ah, I know the DLC is worth it. :D

I really should give this great game another playthrough.

I finished Crushing last night.
I didn't find it nearly as hard as the Crushing difficulty in U2. I may even do it again sometime.

I'm still waiting for my friend to return the game, but now that I canceled my Gamefly account, I think its time to do all of the Uncharted Crushing walkthroughs back to back.

Alright, this is getting ridiculous. I took a little break because I wasn't in the mood and continued today and now I'm in the middle of a storm. Fighting guys on turrets, snipers, guys with grenade launchers, heavily armed soldiers with shotguns. I barely even see them because of the storm, yet they are all still excellent marksmen. I didn't have it this tough in any MGS game. I'm an effin' treasure hunter. Why do I always take on armies? Throughout the games, Drake has probably even killed more people than Solid Snake.

This is what i did i hid in the container and waited for the extra goons to come out took them out and then took out the guy with the grenade launcher took his grenade launcher and then took the guy with the turret out. I know that was the only toughest part for me on crushing that lasted me almose 2-3 hours

The part with 3 Djinns at once + a normal guy that becomes Djinn was the most annoying, to me. I didn't take too long to get past that, but I died many times. Sometimes I died like 4 or 5 seconds after I restarted the checkpoint.

I love it when you practically restart in a crossfire.

Btw, who else thinks it's hilarious that you can throw people to their doom and they won't make a sound. But when you shoot them in the face and they fall off a tower, they won't stop screaming.

Just got the Platinum. I had more fun than I thought I actually would.

Haven't posted in this thread yet, but just beat it on Hard after I beat it on normal, and loved it. Probably should have done crushing instead just to have gotten the trophy.

I can't say anything you guys probably haven't said, but I do have a few questions I wish they had answered (or atleast a bit better).

Like what exactly was the hallucinogen Talbot used, and why was it so similar to the effect Drake experienced when he drunk the water later on? Why did Cutters shot to the chest not affect him? Who planted the spiders, and why?

Some of those are probably easy answers, like Talbot was using some military grade drug. The spiders were planted as guardians by someone. Or that Talbot was simply wearing body armor.

It's just that there are several things that were never quite explained. Another thing too, I wish they would have used Scarabs instead of Spiders as they would have fit the ancient Egyptian theme more, IMO.

I really thought they did a good job tho of filling in Drake's story. It was really a love note to the fans of the series who wanted more Drake and Sully stuff. I also liked the young Drake stuff, it was very well handled. Marlowe was also a good villain.

Now on to the multiplayer stuff :). Can't wait to try out the co-op stuff. The making of features made it seem like they went out of their way to make the co-op adventures closer to the single player epic feeling.

I really thought Talbot was immortal or something when he got shot. But alas that theory was not met.

Yeah, the Talbot character thread in the story was my one disappointment. I was really, really hoping that when
It was said that their organisation was centuries old, that Talbot or Marlowe or both were actually like several hundred years old. The idea of Talbot being this really old, bad ass bodyguard sworn to protect their order would have been really cool and a nice twist. It also would have explained his ninja disappearing skills, taking a bullet to the chest and being fine, the weird prediction thing with the tarot card and his crazy endurance and speed in the chase scene

Concerning Talbot, here is what Hennig said:

Tarot Card:
If you watch closely, you can see that Cutter had three Tarot cards pasted in his journal - The High Priestess, The Magician, and The Tower. (When you get Cutter's journal later, notice that the Tower card is gone...)

When Talbot takes the journal from him, they remove the Tower card and slip it into Cutter's jacket.

You can also see notes in Cutter's journal about the other cards - The High Priestess = Marlowe, The Magician = Talbot.

The Tarot is full of Hermetic symbolism, which ties into what Cutter was saying in that one scene, about the ancient secret society. And how Hermetic mysticism is all tied up in it. So planting the card on Cutter is sort of an ominous, creepy warning to him and the others. Since it predicted his own fate - or at least the fate they orchestrated for him.

Getting Shot and disappearing:
Hey - I saw people are also confused about Talbot getting shot, and disappearing... maybe I can elaborate a little...

Marlowe's crew is supposed to be a highly-trained clandestine organization, with roots stretching back to Elizabeth I and earlier. Sort of like CIA/MI6 secret intelligence service type ops... so the idea is they have lots of means to confound their enemies like a secret arm of the CIA or MI6 might, for example. Like Cutter says, manipulating their enemies through espionage, deception, fear.

This is based on real-life clandestine ops, and "the art of deception". Groups like the CIA really used magician's tricks as well as drugs, etc. to trick and frighten their enemies. So - you can assume there's a rational explanation behind these mysteries... e.g., a bulletproof vest, an escape rope/wire, whatever--which looks "magical" but has a rational explanation, just like a magician's trick.

Magic, tricks, deception, illusion, perception vs. reality - these are themes throughout the game. Abra-goddamn-cadabra.

Why it wasn't explained:
I tend to like to write stories that require interpretation, rather than laying everything out, so I'm happy to elaborate.

As far as his endurance in the chase goes, ND have said that Talbot was meant to be Drakes counterpart or foil. He has similar physical ability and endurance. So it makes since that he can match Drake and maybe even best him a little during that chase scene.

Got a PS3 for Christmas and got this game, now normally I really don't want to play the latest addition of the series if I haven't play any of its predecessor but damn the game was just too addicting that I couldn't put it down. The combat, the cinematic pacing and now to mention the set-pieces, I'd say it's a near flawless game. I've to get the first two now.

Crockett, I think you can get the first two together in like a collector's edition.

just finished the game today. definately the best Uncharted game of the 3.

however, i think the villain's demise was pretty underwhelming. i wanted to see and know more about them. they made it seem as if they were a group that's been around for hundreds of years, but it turned out they weren't. also wanted to know more about why Nate and Elena separated.

oh well, still a great game and i am looking forward to #4 :woot:

I'm curious to see Crockett's response after he plays UC2, just because I fell like UC3 becomes underrated by most people who compare the two after playing them in order.

Yeah this game kind of put Nate and Elena on the back burner. It was more about Sully and Nate.

Combat flows really well and I really like the interactivity with combat like smashing guys with guns like a bat or grabbing objects close by and hitting people with them. So many games try to master melee combat and mimicking things like say Arkham Asylum or God of War but really fail.

The combat was really well done in the third one i loved the way Drake would snatch a dudes gone and whack him with it! or just pulling a pin off a guy and he'd explode!

Naughty Dog crapped out the story for that one, didn't they? Hanging plot threads, contrivances, unnecessary sequences (the ship graveyard anyone?), lack of villain motivation and development... did they even try?
