Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception - Part 1

Man I don't know. I have to wait a month to play this so I have no personal experience to judge by, but based on what impressions I've read so far, this game seems to be a disappointment.

I mean, Uncharted 2 is one of my favourite games of all time, so U3 had me all hyped.

I wasn't expecting it to be better than U2, because that would be amazingly hard to top. But would you guys at least consider it a worthy sequel to it?

Overall, I think it comes down to personal preference in comparison with U2. I mean there are some of us here, myself included, who were blown away by U3 and think it was even better that the last one. But there's people who think U2 was better in certain areas overall. But I think everyone of us would agree that U3 is an awesome game and definitely a must-have.

This game seem a disappointment? That's crazy talk. Even if it meets the expectations of U2, its still better than 95% of the other games out there. And seriously, what impressions have you been reading because critically, this game has been very well received, including perfect scores by many reviewers. So I don't understand how you can conceive that to be a disappointment.

I love Uncharted 3. I also find the multiplayer experience much better than Uncharted 2.

I love the fact that when playing splitscreen your friends or relatives can sign in their accounts as well. Instead of just being your account(1). how many can play splitscreen 4?
the game is fun. This signing in other accounts is a good idea any other games do this?

Uncharted 2 is still my preferred game but that means nothing, I LOVED Uncharted 3 so much. Seriously don't pay attention to what you read on the internet, the game is a joyride from start to finish. The ultimate critique is yourself.

I'm really enjoying my second playthrough for this game, just taking my time with the levels and even discovering things I didn't notice in my first playthrough. I tip my hat Naughty Dog for another job well done.

No, the stats transfer just fine.

that was the main point of the promotion. They didnt advertise it as a beta but rather the actual final multiplayer. It only said beta when you installed it on your XMB, but the werent pushng it as such

Well i liked Uncharted 2 better than Uncharted 3 But i think Uncharted 3 is an amazing game its the best game i have played all year. (still have to play Skyrim) There were just some things that i thought 2 did better than 3. I like Lazaravich better than Marlowe i mean when Drake first meets Lazaravich the first time in Nepal or wherever it was he looked like a badass. Marlowe wasn't much of a threat. And i also felt that the writing wasn't as good either. I mean the humor was good but not as good as 2. And the Scale of the game felt a little smaller to me. But overall Uncharted 3 is a very good game and i highly recomend it to every PS3 owner. And i seriously can't wait fot Golden Abyss on the Vita i hope we get some more info about Drake like his past and all.

The writing for 3 is alot better than the other two, imo, exploring more themes and expanding on Nate's backstory in a way that makes you understand this character we've been following even more. They really do a great job of subtely building this character who's obsession to achieve 'greatness' starts to even question his own motivations. Probably the most impressive cinematic writing that I've seen in a video game to date.

The writing for 3 is alot better than the other two, imo, exploring more themes and expanding on Nate's backstory in a way that makes you understand this character we've been following even more. They really do a great job of subtely building this character who's obsession to achieve 'greatness' starts to even question his own motivations. Probably the most impressive cinematic writing that I've seen in a video game to date.

I thought the writing was the weakest part of UC3. It wasnt nearly as structured, smooth or cohesive as UC2. The story had several holes which dont get answered with twists seemingly introduced just for the sake of having twists. For the most part, everything in UC2 made sense and had a very natural transition as the story progressed. I actually wasnt a big fan of all the over the top and convenient theatrics [blackout](the whole segment of Drake surviving that plane crash or being washed ashore exactly where Elena would be come to mind). [/blackout]Those really took me out of the experience and came across very unrealistic in what is otherwise a tale very grounded in reality (those supernatural elements being the exception). I didnt feel the underlying motivations were particuarly strong enough, like Marlowe's purpose. We find out towards the end but you spend the bulk of the game not knowing what she's chasing Drake after for and when you do find out, I thought that was dumb. The writing was at its strongest when it came to exploring Drake and Sully but it leaves everyone else underdeveloped and leaving you wanting more. I didnt get that feeling in UC2, which was solid from beginning to end in terms of the story they were trying to tell.

I, for one loved the game. I found it every bit as good as Among Thieves. There are levels in this that just blew my mind. Especially chapters 13-17!!

I know I posted that I finished it in 9.5 hours, but around 7 of those were in one sitting. I just couldn't put it down. Overall, it's a great game, I just wanted it to last longer, that's all.

That's definitely true we really shouldn't compare 3 to 2. ND really created a Master Piece with 2 and i think they knew that there was no way they could top it so they just gave a Really awesome game that is its own thing.

I loved the over-the-top action sequences, personally. [blackout]Falling out of the plane was easily the highlight of the whole game for me.[/blackout] After that, I just paused the game for a sec, took a breather, and was like, "... Damn."

I think part of the reason for this was just in terms of how the levels were structured. I mean going back to just the first one, there was a really seamless flow to the game because there weren't really many breaks in the story. I mean after Nate and Elena jump out of the plane, you basically go on a "straight" journey where Drake looks for Elena and ends up finding Sully and the treasure and eventually wind up on Navarro's boat at the end. Same thing with U2, in that you start off in Nepal with Chloe and eventually run into Elena and then you find a temple and then the train stuff with a little break for when Nate recovers that continues with another "straight" journey from the ice cave and the village to eventually Shambala.

With U3, there are many more breaks in the story. I mean the first half is full of about 3-4 different locations and the journey isn't completely as straight because of those breaks. So it didn't really feel like the game flowed as smoothly, even though it did have a more cinematic feel to it in terms of the story-telling.

I'm gonna agree with Havok83. Uncharted 3 was good, but...it lacked good writing and nicely placed twists the second one had. I don't dislike the third, but it doesn't hold a torch to the second. What I really didn't like was how Chloe and Cutter became MIA during the entire second half of the game. I understand Cutter broke his leg, but Chloe was just fine. They reversed what happened in the last game. Chloe and Harry took center stage, while Victor was left behind the curtains. Now this one, Chloe, Cutter, and even Elena are pushed aside. Don't get me wrong, more Sully the better, but there was easily enough room for everyone.

Overall, I give Uncharted 3 a 7/10.

Finished it a few days ago. Put me in the underwhelmed camp. It was still a fun game, but the story didn't feel as tight to me as U2. I think part of it was Marlowe. I thought we might get some backstory on her and Sully but she disappeared for half the game. The ending confused the hell out of me.

So Sully gets shot. Except not. Because Nate drank the water. So he was hallucinating. But then Sully also drank the water. And then Nate's fighting ghosts. But where's Sully this whole time if he wasn't shot? And then the whole city comes down like in U2, which was disappointing.

just finished uncharted 3. what i didn't like about part 1 and 2 was the monsters. t[BLACKOUT]hankfully part 3 refrained from them aside from the hallucinations of course.[/BLACKOUT] i just wanted the puzzles, platforming, globe trotting game without going into the whole zombie monsters thing of 1 and 2.

only thing wrong with 3 was i never got a "train level". we got the car chase that part 2 had, but no equivalent to the train level of part 2. i played some of the multiplayer before finishing the game. there was a really good plane level that i thought was gonna be in the story mode, but it was not the same. the multiplayer had you jumping from truck to truck to get on the plane. in the story mode you just jump on the plane.

i was just looking for some level to replay in story mode, only one that jumps out at me is the convoy. where as in part 2 we had the train level and the truck convoy that were very fun. don't get me wrong i liked the game but i didn't find as many levels as fun as the ones in part 2.

multiplayer is great though. i love that other players can sign in with multiple accounts, so they earn some credit while hanging out. splitscreen it seems was almost dying out, with co-op over the net replacing it. sometimes they forget it's more fun to be in the same room playing together than chatting on a mic.

levels for me to replay are the Boat level and the Convoy they were the highlight of the game
