Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception - Part 1

Yeah, though her role is nowhere near as big as it is in 2.

Yeah that was kind of a bummer. But i think she had the most funniest line. when she gets the bus

I played some Uncharted 3 at a store, I played as a Young Drake him meeting Sully. That was a great stuff Naughty Dog giving us what we might expect in U4. inI was into it I found aiming easier than U2 or maybe I was crap at. It finished when I got to London Underground part.

I loved the second game but final boss battle was annoying. Is U3 better than U2?
I think my excitement level was higher my first time playing U2 than U3. I think there was a bigger jump in scope and thrills between 1 and 2 than between 2 and 3 that there were less surprises playing U3 cuz I already had a feeling what to expect. That being said, I LOVE Uncharted 3. It still has awesome action pieces and Holy Crap! moments (the chateau and the cruise ship for come to mind). There are small gripes like the villains are less interesting, I think, and the story's a bit weaker, but overall it's just a fun game to play. I don't any fan of the first two games will think any less.

Oh and if you hated the final boss fight against Lazarevic (I did!) this one doesn't really have one.

It's funny, I thought the villains could have been cooler in U3 but at the same time I still find them so much more menacing and intensely personal to Drake than Lazarevic and definitely more so than Roman in the first game. I guess I just would have liked to see a bit more of them. They could have cut out that pirate character altogether in favour of more screen time with Talbot and Marlowe.

That's really what it was. Marlowe was just a standard b%$@! and we really didn't know anything about Talbot. I was confused. [BLACKOUT]I felt like why is everyone wearing the same outfit? Is he a clone or something? I felt like there were times I said "is he immortal"? It's been a while but I feel like there was a scene where he was killed and then he came back.[/BLACKOUT] Anybody else ask those questions? I feel like we got more fleshed out villains in 2.

I think Harry Flynn was definitely a fleshed out villain but I still think Marlow was definitely a much more interesting villain than Lezarevic. Personally I don't think it's that what who we got for villains in U3 were bad, it's simply that more would have been better. It would have been nice to find out more about this 'clandestine organisation' what they were about, their history, more stuff like that. Also more about Marlowe and Talbot.

Also
It actually would have been kinda cool if Talbot had lived, simply to leave some vendetta hanging in the air. It would have been different for the series and it would be cool to have this organisation become like the S.P.E.C.T.R.E. to Nathan Drake

Flynn was my favorite villian in the series. Its too bad he was killed off bc he could have made for an awesome recurring rival to Drake. He served as a good counterpart which could have played off for games tocome

I thought he made for a good end boss as he came across very menacing and was a threat. As a character though Im indifferent as he didnt get much characterization. He was just there

I guess I m the only one who liked Lezaravic
Nops. He's my favorite. I don't think Marlowe had as much presence as he did.
I still remember his lines from the boss fight. Great delivery.

Yeah i actually liked the voice actor he did a really good job especially when he and Nate meet the first time.

Fun fact, the guy who played Lezarevic also played Charlie Cutter.

I'm not saying I didn't like good ol' Lez, but I found Marlowe a lot more personal to Drake. That scene when he's just been drugged and he's sitting at the cafe with Marlowe was great.

that makes sense bc I noticed they resembled each other

I’m in the process of replaying this after finishing it back in November. Uncharted has become my favorite video game franchise (stealing that title from Metal Gear). I would have to agree with what a lot of people are saying about this game, though.

Story-wise, I really feel like they dropped the ball. I think the seeds they planted with the villains are great – they started with a great foundation with having Marlowe connected to Drake’s past, and suggesting that she knew more about him than he was comfortable with. And having her be part of a massive, centuries old organization is a cool idea, too. When they touched on the mystical stuff (the tarot card prediction and Talbot’s “resurrection”), I got really excited. But then nothing happened. It was completely forgotten. And to be honest, I don’t even recall WHY Drake needed to stop Marlowe.

And then there was all the talk about Drake being obsessed with danger. They spent a lot of time harping on this, without any pay off. Honestly, I think one of the characters should have died. It would have showed that there really is a danger and consequence to Drake’s obsession. But in the end, people’s argument about his obsession is invalidated since nothing bad happens, making that entire story aspect pointless.

Another thing, I’m tired of not seeing Drake and Elena’s relationship. I’m tired of coming into a new game, only to see the relationship happened between games. Its boring, and makes the build up from the previous game pointless. Granted, I kinda liked what they did in this game, but I would have liked to have seen more of what happened, or at the very least, have it have more of an impact on Drake. Let the gamers enjoy seeing them together, since we’ve played 3 games watching them be on the outs, only to “get together” in the last scene. As a gamer who loves these characters, its frustrating, and seems more like an “easy out” in terms of story: “What do we do about Drake and Elena?” “Uhhh….let’s just have the gamers wonder if they’ll get together for a third time.”

Uncharted 3’s story had SO much potential, so many things presented that suggested a truly epic story. The action, game play, set pieces, graphics, etc all are top notch, but this is a series where I expect EVERYTHING to be top notch.

Everytime I see a complaint about the story I remember of The Last of Us and how they split the team to work on that.
Makes me think that's one of the reasons why they slipped on some aspects.

I haven't gone back and replayed it yet since the release, but the only thing that bothered me personally was that I was eager to find out more about the Nate/Elena relationship, and I was disappointed in how that was handled subtly in the second half, and not so much a mention in the first half. Other than that I didn't have a problem with the story overall.

Yeah i'd say that's why UC3 wasn't as great as UC2

Oh, I'm 100% sure that's the reason. Shouldn't be an excuse, though, especially for some of the story points i mentioned.

Am looking forward to The Last of Us (and the next UC), though!

I don't actually think that would have had much bearing. The story process is governed by tight deadlines and whoever was on writing duty would not have been split as 50/50 between to two projects as the devs would have been. In fact, most of the story work would have been done well before they started any serious game production.

I don't think you need to try and find a 'reason' as to why you didn't like the story as much, that's the very nature of any art or creative process, sometimes it just doesn't hit that spot in the right way. I actually thought U3 had the much, much better story in terms of character development, it simply didn't have as many punchy narrative plot points.

So far it's great, but there is one really big problem with the game. I can't switch shoulders while I'm aiming. :csad: It's not that my controller's broke, as the L3 button works in other games, I just can't change how I aim. Does anybody know if there's anything I can do to fix this?
