Underrated Animated Movies

I don't know about it getting snubbed, but I'm surprised how many people I've talked to that either haven't heard of it or haven't seen it.

In college, some of my friends were familiar with it. Especially if they were at least 10 years older than me

Titan A.E.
Treasure Planet
Iron Giant
Emperor's New Groove

All of which have already been mentioned.

whoops: Double post

I agree about The Great Mouse Detective. Smart, funny, and classic.

Shame. This was cutting edge animation for its time.

Yeah, I get that alot...

I haven't seen Titan AE in years. Maybe I should pick it up.

On topic, one animated movie I feel is criminally underrated is Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. It gets a lot of hate because it isn't someone's favourite Final Fantasy game made into a two hour movie (and what a horrid experiance that would have been!), and critics generally hated it because... well, I don't actually know why. It just seems they were too lazy to do their jobs (aparantly, some felt that the story was muddled and completely untraceable).

Of course, I feel it's an excellent sci-fi film. The story is basic, but classic, and it's a groundbreaking piece of CGI entertainment.

I really really like that movie................because of its animation. I'm a sucker for these things, heh :hehe: The story was kinda meh plus the acting (if you will) was bland too.

Anything by Ralph Bakshi.

A couple of his movies have been mentioned already, but Wizards is my favorite.

Fern Gully

i had never heard about it until my girlfriend said it was her favorite movie growing up.

Robin Williams is great 'as always'

Oh man, absolutely! Tim Curry, Christian Slater, and Robin Williams, how can you go wrong?!

I like titan ae. has any one ever seen hoodwinked? its computer cartoon. i recommed picking it up. another under rated moive is ant bully and over the hedge. i also think monst house is under rated. i could be worng.

^^^The Ant Bully just skipped the premium channel process didn't it? Even Showtime and they take all of the scrap films...

I'm gonna have to say Street Fighter II the animated movie was very underrated, it came out around the same time as the 1994 live action movie came out. IMO, it was a far better movie, with a more interesting plot, the characters featured in the film had more of a purpose other than serving as cronies for Bison and Guile

DEFINITELY!!!

Hercules is another one.
Hercules is absolutely terrible. It rejects every oppurtunity it gets to be epic storytelling by using cheap animation, unfunny slapstick gags, and every 20 minutes somebody gets his by something followed by a blast of brass insturments.

I disagree. I think, with a good writer, you could make a movie based off one of the popular FF games. FF7 would jump to most people's minds, but I actually think FF8 lends itself better to the silver screen, or even FF9 if you want to go with the more traditional fantasy approach.

You couldn't do a direct adaptation, it would obviously have to be simplified and they would have to cut some of the more ridiculous or complex ideas, and slim down the plots, but I certainly don't think it's out of the realm of possibility.

and yet most kids don't even know about it!!
I loved that movie when I was a kid! Rattigan was a great bad guy, and I thought the fight in and on Big Ben was awesome.
