Underrated Sequels

X-Men 3 - Lots of people liked it, lots of people disliked, lots of people are in between.

Predator 2 - Recently bought it on Blu-Ray and was pleased to visit it again. Definitely underated.

Alien 3 - This film has definitely grown on me.

Terminator 3 - Great action, last time we'll probably see Arnold in a Terminator film. Pretty nice and unexpected ending.

Jurassic Park 3 - I prefer this one to Lost World. At least it was fast paced and introduced new dinosaurs and gave us some pretty good action/chase scenes.

28 Weeks Later - No one really hates this film, but I feel it never really got the credit it deserved. If 28 Days Later was "Alien," then 28 Weeks Later was "Aliens." Both sequels were in the same spirit as the originals, but they're both on speed. Fast paced and both get the adrenaline pumping.

The Lost World has better action scenes and maybe even a better supporting cast than the original. All anyone ever seems to remember is the awful last 10 minutes though.

I like the lost world as a whole, but I hate how terrible of an adaptation it is.

I wouldn't go as far as saying that Lost World had a better supporting cast. At least in the first one, you got to know Sam Neil and the gang. In Lost World, there were mostly cannon fodder.

I think Lost World was a fun movie, but it lacked the tension and buildup of the original.

Terminator Salvation - Punished for not being T1 and T2. It's not a great movie by any means but it's no where near as bad as some like to suggest.

I have a whole bunch, but I won't post them all. Alot of these are really movies that people consider good, but really I just can't believe they don't get more credit.

Spider-Man 3
X-Men 3
Terminator 3
Terminator 4 (Salvation)
Alien 3
Predator 2
Rocky 3+4
Rambo sequels
Die Hard sequels
Lethal Weapon sequels

- Die Hard With a Vegeance (I love it more than Die Hard)
I agree with this.

- The Lost World: Jurassic Park (It is better than the critical reception it originally received)
But not with this. The Lost World is easily one of Spielberg's worst.

Sequels I find underrated and absolutely love:

Ghostbusters II
Predator 2
Alien 3
Temple Of Doom
Saw II
Phantasm II
Batman Returns
Gremlins 2: The New Batch
RoboCop 2
Hellraiser 3-6
Child's Play 3
Halloween 6
Friday The 13th Parts 5-7
U.S. Marshals
Return Of The Jedi

There's probably more. I know some people may not agree with my choices for some of these films being underrated due to some getting an overly good reception, but I've seen some of these films get trashed enough and not get enough credit to qualify.

Sanjuro was a good sequel. I don't like the fact that the majority of the scenes had Sanjuro tag along with the other junior samurai.

See, that's one of the things that I find fun about Sanjuro. If Yojimbo partly sends up the "stranger rides into town and cleans it up" genre, then Sanjuro partly sends up the "men on a mission" genre.

I think its safe to say predator 2 is in the top 5 conversation of underrated movies. after AVP 1 and 2 people looked back and said wait a minute.

MY list:

-Predator 2
-GI JOE: Cobra (forgive me, I thought it was mindless fun that helps when you have a hard day at work)
-Episode 2 attack of the clones
-spiderman 3 (atleast we saw venom right?:csad:)
-xmen 3(sure ratner went on a killing spree with the characters but hey)
-die hard with a veagence definitely makes this list

2010
The color of money. Loved Newman in this. (kinda sorta a sequel)

Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers.

Better than the much praised Halloween 2. And for being made late in the slasher boom of the 80's(1988), it was actually creepy. This was mostly due to Myers stalking and trying to kill a 9 year old girl, but it also had a great atmosphere for a slasher flick, the always dependable Halloween soundtrack, some pretty awesome and cringe worthy kills, and the joy of watching Myers quickly re-establish himself as the most bad ass and cerebreal of all the slasher villians.

There should be no Empire Strikes back or T2 here, this thread is for sequels that :
A) generally get a bad wrap
B) are under-the-radar or
C) completely forgotten altogether, that you enjoy.

here's my list :

The Matrix Reloaded
The Matrix Revolutions
Jaws 2
X-Men Origins: Wolverine (not great but not bad either)
Spider-Man 3
X-Men: The Last Stand
Batman Forever
All 3 Star Wars prequels
Indy IV.
The Lost World
JP3
Wayne's World 2
Addams Family Values

...

Ghostbusters II is the first that comes to mind for me. It's not as good as the first by any means, but I don't understand why it's considered so low by many fans and casual watchers alike. It's still pretty damn good in its right.

the crow salvation - not as bad as the other sequals, but certainly not the masterpiece the first one was ethier

i think if it had a bigger budget, a little more work in the script department it could've been better

uhhhh.... Rocky 5?
I like Rocky 5, I don't see why this one gets all the hate maybe because the fans didn't like the idea of a Rocky going broke or plain just didn't like his real life son Sage Stallone in the film.

I still get a little misty eyed when Rocky is in Mickey's gym remembering the good times they had together.

Originally it was Stallone's idea of having Rocky die at the end which thank god the studio relented, how can you kill off an American icon?

This. X-Men 3 didn't offend me at all, I really am not a huge die-hard X-Men fan so all the hatred towards this movie bewildered me. It was light, fluffy summer entertainment. It definitely has its detractors (short running time, too many characters, too many plotholes), but I thought this was so much more entertaining than Brett Ratner's previous films. And much more rewatchable than Wolverine, which left even me bitterly disappointed. And X3 had better CGI work too.

Agree with you word for word on 28 Weeks Later. Although I really didn't like the digital video look of 28 Days..., it looked like a student film at times.

For me, it's because it somewhat diminishes the universe of the first movie. what I love about the 1st movie is that it feels like it is set in a real recognisable world, just with ghosts now popping up, and all the humour was played off of the character interactions and dealing with this new situation that had developed in the world.
But, the second movie kind of felt like it was just a joke world, when you had things like Rick Moranis coming in as a comedy lawyer, and the ghostbusters accepting his help in their defence.
Moranis was infinitely more funny as the awkward, stalky neighbour, much more real and all the better for it.
this goofy tone of the universe is throughout the 2nd movie, and does not feel anywhere as good as the fiorst one for me. I prefer to see any goofiness springing out from ridiculous situations that arise from the fact the real world has been turned on it's head with supernatural elements.
I prefer to think of the first movie as stand alone, but will watch GBII if it comes on the telly and I haven't seen it in years.

Well, if I remember correctly, Moranis' character did that because the Ghostbusters were more or less broke and that's all they could get. He himself even said it was a bad idea since he was only trained in tax law, and not that type of thing. Outside that small part, what else was there that made the second movie world goofier than the first?
