Universal MCU: Hulk and Namor

My 2.5 year old has recently gotten into the Hulk. He loves watching action scenes from 2003 Hulk, he happily sits and watches the entire TIH movie but doesn’t like watching anything to do with Avengers Hulk, especially Endgame Hulk. I personally like Avengers Hulk until Endgame that is, I just find it interesting that he doesn’t. He does like Thor Ragnorok Hulk but not nearly as much as TIH Hulk.
Smart kid, excellent start in life!

As a parent who has raised two children I suggest tying his hands to the chair make sure his eyes are forced open and have him watch avengers hulk
over and over again because that one’s the best.

Those people at child protective services don’t know what they’re talking about.

in all seriousness, kids tend glom on to something and not want to change what they watch. I think I’ve had to sit through the lion King and Shrek about two gazillion times. That’s a conservative estimate or at least it seems like it is. Isay let him hulk out Until such time that he comes on tosomething else. Hopefully it’ll be Thor or Doctor Strange. LOL

Hulk, Thor and Dr Strange, the 3 pillars of a kid’s education.

My son is now 16. He started on the 03 Hulk as well and loved the Norton Hulk. Unfortunately the avengers movies made him less of a hulk fan and he doesn’t really watch anymore. He says that I need to get over it and that hulk is just not as cool as Ironman or cap. Nothing wrong with keeping your little one on those two movies!! They represent the best of Hulk. Avengers 1 was good as well, but anything beyond that is subject to individual taste and preferences .

I would gladly take a solo Hulk sequel, as that is one of the things I've been most wanting in the MCU. But I will temper my enthusiasm until this is run by a more legitimate source

l have honestly soured on the MCU version of Hulk. I would love to see a sequel to the 03 film that’s set outside the marvel universe or a stand alone sequel to the 08 version set somewhere else in the multiverse. Or a cartoon sequel to the hulk tv show would be nice kinda like the did with the Adam west Batman show.

I know the she hulk show is coming with Ruffalo, but I honestly have no interests in seeing Ruffalo . Infinity war and endgame left a sour taste in my mouth.. I know that feige consulted him on the character and the arc and I just really didn’t like the direction it took. I know some did and that’s fine, but I just did not.

The Russos gave me many of my favourite MCU films. Just a shame that they didn’t give me the Hulk I wanted. They also gave me an amazing Thor, and then took that away too. Luckily I love nearly everything else about the films they’ve made but it’s just a bit of a shame.

If there was anything I liked less about what they did to Hulk in IW and EG, it was what they did to Thor in EG. It was definitely Brand Ecch. They might as well given us The Inedible Bulk and The Mighty Sore (remember those?).

Ruffalo seems to think we want more Professor Hulk and asks fans to tell Feige this is the case. That's exactly what I don't want.

Yeah, I can see why HE might want more Prof. Hulk. As an actor, I'm sure it's more fun to play that part than Bruce or normal Hulk, but as a fan, I haven't got nearly enough of normal Hulk to be ready to move on to the goofy variations.

The thing with ruffalo is that he started out as an alright Banner but then deviated so far away from the the tortured but genius scientist that he just became comic relief and so unlike the character completely. I still stand by that Norton has been our best Banner based on the source material.

I agree with you 100%

Yeah. That's probably true. I happen to REALLY like Ruffalo as an actor, but I have to agree. I don't think I'd put that all on Ruffalo though (although it may be partly his doing). The writers and directors play, IMO, a much bigger role. I liked Avengers Hulk and Ragnarok too. I didn't really notice the Banner change until it got mentioned.

Ruffalo is naturally a rather laid back actor and doesn't have that sort of intensity that Bill Bixby had as Banner.

Bixby's Banner sometimes seemed even more frightening than the Hulk himself. He was always trying to suppress his anger but it was boiling away beneath the surface, and you feared what was going to come out. His scenes were always full of suspense and you felt it was ramping up the tension. But once he became the Hulk he just flexed his muscles and roared a bit but he was generally a gentle green giant. He didn't have that same intensity as Banner.

Ruffalo hasn't really been like that at all, apart from a few moments in the Avengers.

I think the character in general has been sort of mismanaged and needs something of a soft reboot, and I wouldn't object to a new actor as part of that.

Hulk is too much of a "team-player" on the Avengers. He needs to be feared and shunned by society. We need more of him being attacked by the army and less of him fighting side by side with the good guys. He shouldn't fall into line and do whatever Cap tells him.

The comic book Hulk I remember was nearly every classic "Monster" rolled into one. Part Frankenstein, part Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, part Hunchback of Notre Dame...

He's really a great character that hasn't been used nearly to his potential.

My favorite Hulk version by far has been the petulant toddler in Ragnarok. I grew up during the "Hulk like beans!" era and it was great to finally see him onscreen. And it was disappointing to have him gone so quickly.

That being said....I am glad we're getting so many different versions of the character. And I hope Smart Hulk isn't his final resting place. I'd love to see Joe Fixit fighting Logan and/or Ben and maybe Maestro pairing up with King Thor in a MCU film set in the distant future.

Hulk's role as Avengers team "Wild Card" reminds me very much of his time spent with the Defenders in the 70s, where he was (for the most part) a team player led by Dr. Strange.

If they aren’t able to get Norton then I agree that a new actor is needed, I’m really not interested in seeing more of Ruffalo or giant green Ruffalo.

I also agree that Hulk needs to be more of a wild card, unpredictable and it was kind of like this in Avengers sometimes and also in Thor Ragnorok, even though he was working with people he was still doing his own thing. I just feel like the “he could snap at any moment” should of been played up more.

This seems to summarise Ruffalo's attitude to being more of a savage Hulk

Didn't he say something else in the film like how he thought it was humiliating or embarrassing to have to act in a savage way? Something along those lines. It's not included in this clip or similar clips online.

That clip alone sums up everything wrong with Hulk in Endgame.

Yeah, and those Defenders books, while I enjoyed them, bothered me in a similar way. I'd read an FF in which the FF and Hulk are fighting, then I'd pick up Defenders and see Hulk acting like a "Superhero", and it didn't make sense.

I agree

All this talk from doctor strange and the next Spider-Man flick got me thinking, do you think it would work if they brought Eric Bana back as Maestro Hulk? I think Eric could easily play a much darker hulk that has gone over the edge

That’d be cool and all, but tbh I’d rather see Ruffalo portray the MCU’s Maestro. Keep giving him more angles and room to explore the Hulk character & mythology.

For Namor, what do people think about Mulan’s Yoson An? He’s only 28, and I think I’d prefer him or a lesser-known face over someone like Henry Golding.

Man look, to those that like PH. Yeah, sure okay he was well written and had some great scenes and honestly. Its wholesome to see Banner get what he wants for a change.

But I feel like I need the Savage Hulk back for once. It just kinda made no sense for it to happen when it did. There were so many regular Hulk stories left to tell.

Honestly I wouldnt mind a recast if this is what Ruffalos ideal Hulk is. Cast someone who wants Hulk to smash.

yeah you’re probably right. If anything flipping it would be better, bananas present day avengers hulk and ruffalo as maestro. Love An as Namor! He has such a deep commanding voice
