The Dark Knight Using your imagination - Horror in TDK?

If you know how to edit a film well, you can leave the audience shaken by a scene without having to show R-rated material.
reminds me of how they did robin's parent's death in TAS. seeing the rope swinging after being cut is far more ominus than seeing a couple of bodies on the ground

Man, I remember that from when I was a kid. Really chilling.

Return of the Joker comes to mind. The worst parts are what's left to the imagination.

I'm imagining how quickly this thread will become horrible...

Impaling? So the electrocution is the censored version?

yep. in the uncensored, tim shots the bang flag out and the shots it into joker. joker also stabs batman in the knee with a swithblade instead of the playing card he uses in the cesored version

Heh. All this time I thought I had the uncensored version. Guess not. I still enjoy the replacement scene, in any case, and compared to impalement it actually seems more gruesome. :/

Edit: Thanks backtothefront8

i have actually only seen the uncensored version lol...creepy but i would love to see the other version.

the censored version is much better imo, the things they took out were for the most part pointless or were better done with the censoring. there was one part in the begining with bonk that was better uncensored though

No problem, Ama

...Yeah, after watching that I liked the censored one better. It flowed a little more nicely and the death seemed worse and more dramatic.

Like it was mentioned earlier, you could probably get a really bone chilling scene
by leaving the gruesomeness of Joker to your imagination...or from another point of view.

For instance, everybody wants to see joker carve a smile, yeah? But I doubt a PG-13 movie would ACTUALLY show the process. But let's say Joker shoots a man and he falls to the ground. Joker pulls out a knife and begins to slowly carve a smile in the guy's face while he's still alive. A simple solution would be to focus the camera on Joker's face the whole carving, showing how happy this really makes him, while you just hear the man's screams in the background. When it's all over there's a shot of Joker's hands, now very bloody, and a shot
of the finished victim now with a permanent grin.

You get your grin. And , TO ME, that's much more disturbing.

Want to push the envelope more? Let the viewer see the carving from a different perspective. Let's say that man Joker shot, let's say he has a little daughter and she wakes up from her father's screams. She slowly walks towards the living room, and peeks in (the camera only shows HER perspective I mind you) and you just see this twisted clown perched over her screaming father doing something with a knife. Joker then turns around and notices the little girl. Stands up, his hands all bloody, and points his knife towards her, saying "Now...let's put a smile on that face!" He begins to walk towards her and we cut to a different scene.

So Joker basically murdered a father and little girl AND carved a smile in their face, without much blood or gruesome "Hostel" violence. It's kept PG-13

And to me that's more ****ed up.

What do you think?

yep. unfortunately the version i got is the uncensored one:csad: i plan on cutting them both together at some point though

I found the DVD for 5 bucks so I just bought it, so it must be super cheap right now if you can find it. The commentary's worth it.

And OctaviousINC, I think your ideas are on the rightish track, but still too gruesome for pg-13. Implied torture yes, but super bloody hands and showing the victim afterwards might be too much. I'd express concern on the killing of the kid too, but then I remember they killed a kid in the first ten minutes of Pirates3. The MPAA is making less and less sense every year.

Well, not super bloody, but just some blood on his hands to show he was doing something...nasty. And as far as killing the kid, he would just walk towards her , point his knife at her, and then cut to a new scene, implying it. Not showing anything. But who knows what flies these days.

He should kill twinks who dye their hair crazy colors.

What's a twink?

I like the idea of showing the Joker's murder from the victim's child's point of view. For good measure, show the victim's hands splayed and flailing, fingers twitching as Joker carves his pumpkin.

This threads pretty interesting...reminds me of the famous murder from Psycho. The scene with Norman Bates killing the gyrl in the shower has actually been voted one of the bloodiest scenes in the horror franchise but for those of you who remember that part well...it really doesnt show much of anything at all and it just plays the psychological games with you. If you know how to film and film well you can put anything into the heads of the audience without being too disturbing at all on the screen and if TDK goes with that thats perfectly fine by me.

Thankfully, the troll was taken out before it was allowed to breed. But I still thought I'd point out that the Joker seems far more likely to kill ignorant bigots.
