We've got The Joker - a psychopath who wears clown make-up and likes to cut people with his knives, so im doubting very much that they can make this film without some disturbing scenes - at least disturbing within the limit of PG13 (12a).
Im thinking the approach they'll be going for is psychological, as the title suggests, letting you use your imagination.
Who can forget this scene from Se7en:

I personally think this was the creepiest scene in the movie - even though we are told what john doe made this guy do we never actually saw it and that made it all the more disturbing in my opinion, where as movies these days (im looking at you 'Saw' franchise!) would simply show a scene like this, which would make you feel sick for a few days but would leave no lasting impression.
If they go for this approach in TDK, maybe having one of The Jokers "victims" being questioned and having them describe what he did to them, it would be quite disturbing but would also keep within the PG13 limits.

Anybody got any other ideas, or things from other movies, which could be implemented into the horror of TDK?

A more valid question - does anyone know any creepy/disturbing scenes from any EXISTING PG-13 movies??? , just so we can speculate as to what kind of content TDK could actually get away with....?

I would like to see the Joker pull some violence out of his pockets, i mean his pockets was full of knives. When hes interrogated by Batman i hope he brags about all the people he has tortured and killed and then talks about how his parents died to freak batman out. In the movie however its not gonna be too violent, i would hope to see joker slip some cheeks to put smiles on everyones faces and i would like to see the two face transformation to be brutal. THe fact is it is PG13 and i hope for an unrated version on DVD

Old boy.
The bad guy in it, Woo-Jin Lee, in the world of the movie is sort of like god if he were sadomasochistic with no empathy, completely untouchable and dictating everything of our protagonist of the movie, who he mentally tortures to a climatic ending.

I want stories from the police saying they found bodies with twisted smiles and such, then possibly showing flashes of them a la the ring.

I agree, they need to at least have flashed of some of Joker's violence. If they just spell everything out for us that's going to be a bit weak.

****ing amazing movie  I love it so much.

To answer my own question, i can only think of one sequence in a PG-13 thats slightly disturbing and thats Revenge of the Sith when anakin gets his legs cut off and then catches fire............i personally have no problem with The Joker cutting someones face and then setting them on fire

Let's not forget the Joker on fear gas scene we heard so much about.

I wish I had never heard about that rumour because if it's not in the film I'm going to be seriously let down. :csad:

I personally don't care. As long as Joker pulls off a few theatrical kills, I'll be great.

If you all want to see Joker rip his victim's flesh off with an arsenal of knives as blood squirts onto the camera, more power to you. I'll let you all bask in that because I don't give a damn:whatever:

It won't have any on screen horror for sure, but there's a lot of violent stuff in PG-13 movies these days. Pretty much anything too violent for on the screen can happen off screen (like characters watching a video of the action, or just a cut to something else while audio from the violence plays) or be heavily implied. As long as there's no gore or excessive blood, it's pretty much fair game.
And frankly yeah, I'm expecting there to be a lot of psychological thriller stuff to go down, just letting us use our imagination on what is happening. Much more interesting that way.

Leland Orser's worthless acting ruined that scene totally.
I thought he was great in that scene, but what have you....

As far as the one of the Joker's victims being questioned......all I have to say is: The Joker doesn't leave survivors! Unless its for a purpose (I'm looking at you Barbara Gordon).

I think of Return of the King and the human heads they were catapulting over the wall... that's pretty horrific for a PG13, and hopefully set a standard that will allow TDK to have the Joker run wild with a little on-screen horror himself

exactly - like i said earlier too about anakin getting his legs cut off and burning alive, they really need to push the boundaries on TDK to make The Joker as believable a psychopath as possible. May i point out >> "Starting tonight, people will die.....im a man of my wooord", ok FINE, but i wanna see it!!!:wow:

Torture scene in Casino Royale. F****** disturbing.

Yeah, but you know, ROTK is fantasy, and The Dark Knight is more realistic movie, so it's not the same situation.

I want him to be extremely violent, but not too gruesome. He's not Zsaz. His killings should be more about style than brutality.

pg 13 film will have no horror

your articulate way with words amazes me

back on topic though....I would think that there might be one or two cut smiles shown, after all it would basically just look like the jokers smile, a slice with a bunch of red around it.

PG-13 rated movies can have "horror" elements in them just fine. Look at Pirates, Harry Potter, and other such films. They did it nicely.

Those of you wanting the gruesome, uber-bloody, knive wielding Joker, I'm just wondering...what type of Joker murdering scenes would you like to see?

If you know how to edit a film well, you can leave the audience shaken by a scene without having to show R-rated material.

I always find the most frightening scene/film is one that allows you to use your own imagination.

Frankly, I don't want some gore hungry graduate TELLING me what I should find a scary visual when MY imagination can do it soooo much better. It's about taste and your own neuroses, let's face it. If there's a gap to be filled with something nasty, then each viewer can fill it in with something that's terrifying to them, not to someone else!
