Venom now has a stand alone film, according to the studio.

One word for you Venom fans...Namor...
Sadly that's about the chance you've got of actually seeing this project getting done.
Why? Because Sony is busy with S-4 & S-5, that is were 100% of their attention will be until 2012.
Marvel Studios is equally focused on its Avengers path until at least 2012. Beyond that they don't even have the rights. So I'd say Sony or nothing.
Universal and Marvel has been saying Namor for over a decade. It ain't happening

Unless the re-invent the character Eddie Brock(Sr.), give some foundation to his character, give him a realistic motivation, than the film would just be mush/eye candy.

Me neither.

Is it just me or does Venom only exist as the ultimate foil to Spider-Man? I mean Venom is what Peter could have let himself become. A extreme mirror image of what he could have let the symbiote do to him. Spidey fights Venom as a way of fighting the demon he almost became. To do a Venom film without Spidey seems impossible. I mean, I am sure Sony can make the movie but I don't see any way of it being a movie comic book fans respect. Spidey needs Venom, Venom needs Spidey for a Venom movie to exist.

Well I gotta agree with you. Although I'd like to see this movie being made, Venom fits better as enemy of Spiderman.
Maybe they can have Spiderman as a supporting character?:wow: well who knows...

Good. There's no way in hell he could support a movie. Has he ever had a solo comic?

I meant Juggernaut. I support this movie, being a Venom fan myself.

the idea of Silver Surfur spin off is just like wth...
most people dont even know who silver surfer is.

^ True; but, I don't think they ever had Spiderman, Batman, or IronMan expectation

Well back to the topic, I think Paul Bettany can play a good Cletus Kassidy/Carnage.

The best choice to play Cletus Kasady would be Cillian Murphy. The man can act well and could pull it off and do a good job. Watch him in Batman Begins and Wes Craven’s Red Eye, and you’ll find it hard to say he can’t pull off the villain.

But do you really honestly think the studio would actually consider Cillian for Carnage and whether Cillian would express interest in the part? He's repeatedly said, with the exception of reprising the role of Crane/Scarecrow if Chris Nolan personally asked him to do so, that he's not playing anymore villains. He's always emphasized variety in his projects, and hates being pigeonholed. Furthermore, the fact that Cillian has already played a comic book villain (a character from Marvel's main rival DC no less) will make producers LESS likely to choose him, much less consider him. For example, Heath Ledger never played villainous characters before, but Nolan wanted to really take the risk because he saw that "spark," and it paid off. I'm fairly certain a character like Carnage could be the sort of role MANY young up-and-coming actors would love to sink their teeth into. After Heath's scary as hell performance as Joker, I say give another actor that same sort of chance for Carnage.

Which is funny about Cilian because one of his close friends is Danny Boyle who directed him in 28 Days Later and Sunshine once said in an interview that Cilian's "loves to be the save the day guy" and Cilian said, "No, I have just as much fun putting chills in spines." and they both laugh.

I like Cillian as a choice for Carnage but would prefer someone who can show his insanity perfectly like Ben Foster, who has already been around the block as a villain before and a comic book character.

what about robert knepper (prison break/t-bag) for carnage? I think he would be perfect and as of recently he has been in a few major movies...

^ Knepper is good, he has the villain look to him.

I'd rather see Carnage in a Spidey movie with Venom returning but f***ing Sam Raimi had to church it up and make Venom family friendly and cornball.

I am all for a solo Venom movie if that means not having to see him [or Carnage] in a Spider-Man movie ever again!

I definitely do agree with this. If they don't want the franchise to end up being a joke of its former self, they're definitely going to have to get a new director up in this.

He has had a one shot, and his son had his own comic called J2, which was part of the MC2 line of comics (along with SPIDER-GIRL,A-NEXT,and FANTASTIC 5).

A Venom solo movie would be a very BAD idea. However, an Anti-Venom solo movie MIGHT work and would be a more logical choice for a movie.

^ Well, they definitely have to re-invent Brock and Venom has to be souless. However, if they are going to do the film... I say they need to present it in a trilogy to slowly develop the character as they go.

I think they need to open with the events of Peter/Spiderman/Bugle as seen from Eddie(616)/Venom perspective; but his first challenge or "villain", should be Spiderman backing off and letting SHIELD trying to bring him in because of the "alien goo" Symbiote. Maybe because Nick secretly wants to weaponize it.

Than have the events in Venom1 with Nick trying to weaponize it leads to the creation of Carnage for Venom2.

Finally in Venom3, have it where as, Spidey realize he has to end this and seeks a temporary truce with Kraven and go after Venom; with at some point Venom hurts(not kill)Kraven and the final battle is between Venom & Spider-Man with Spider-Man badly beatin, but victorious.

Or, unfortunatley, they could just make a Venom movie and have Venom play the same role as Anti-Venom.

Really, all Anti-Venom is is a white "Lethal Protector" Venom. Venom can be a "hero" without going the route of AV. Besides, people will think that an Anti-Venom movie would be a gimmick, what with most non-comic fans having no idea who AV is. At least these people, this non-comic audiences, know who Venom is now thanks to SM3, so a Venom spin-off could garner interest. Besides, Anti-Venom is waaaay to recent. Don't kid yourself. I think Nolan could do a kick-ass Hush in Batman 3, but no one wants a recently, iffy comic villain in over a classic like the Penguin or the Black Mask.

The idea of making te Venom spinoff a trilogy is meh to me. Very meh. I am the biggest Venom fan (Eddie Brock) and I'm very put off by the idea of even one Venom film. We're just going down the same route Marvel did in the mid-late 90's: TOO...MUCH...VENOM. Then again, Hollywood doesn't care. I wouldn't be surprised if we did get a series of these films. As I stand, Venom: The Movie is destined to go the route of Catwoman.

imo, Venom is losing his strenght. I don't know outside, but I see so much hate in these boards directed towards him. Carnage, then...
I just hope that the Spectacular series cam make new Venom fans and bring the old ones back.

Venom (Brock) has already had plenty of stories recently that showed his better side: "Undone", The Last Temptation of Eddie Brock, "The Hunger" (Spectacular Spider-Man), his Ultimate version, most definitely New Ways to Die and Dark Origin,

Truth is, people refuse to give Venom a 2nd chance. A writer can come and make Venom pure gold again, and the critics will stay biased against him.

But I digress, there are still a large following of Venom fans. So many people have been clamoring and ******!ng over Gargan taking over the mantle and wanting Brock back that even Marvel has taken notice. For every extreme Venom fan, there is an extreme Venom hater. It's a pefect 1 for 1.

A Venom movie that sucks will only make this impossible uphill battle even worse.
