Venom now has a stand alone film, according to the studio.

How are they going to do this without Venom, Brock, or the symbiote appearing in a new Spider-Man movie?

hmmm a Spider-man movie and a Venom movie leading into a confrontation movie between the two

That makes no sense. Venom's origin is tied directly with Spider-Man.

while it is I'll wait to hear how they do it before I complain

there's no way to go "all-out" with Venom and have it only PG-13.. this is going to handicap the film in a major way.. better to just leave it alone.. and I'm sick of this character getting the lions share of attention vs. other non-maniac characters..

Honestly I don't think this Venom movie gets off the ground. It will be the next Green Arrow: Supermax or Wonder Woman.

If Sony wants to expand the Spidey universe, they are going to have to work in tandem with Marvel Studios, that is if they want a major cross over event. First, they need to ditch this ill-conceived Venom project because without Peter Parker involved, it is a disaster. You have to set up Brock in ASM, or a sequel, to get people to care.

Unless... this movies takes place some time in the future, and we eventually get a "prequel" of the symbiote saga in an ASM sequel. Keep in mind the solo films in the MCU were not released in chronological order either. I realize it is not the same thing given how unique each Avenger story is, but you could still do it that way. I still feel it would bomb either way.

If I were Sony and they want a massive event, I would build towards a Sinister Six type film. Something involving minor characters in the MCU to offer assistance to Spidey. Something akin to:

1) ASM
2) ASM 2: Symbiote/Venom
3) Venom spinoff/Carnage/(Rhino, Shocker, Black Cat, or other minor villains).
4) ASM 3: Goblin/Doc Ock.
5) Sinister Six movie

I doubt this new franchise will have the longevity for all that, but you have to build it up over a period of films.

um...Sony is working with Marvel on this so...there's that

again without knowing how they are doing this how can we say this is ill conceived???

and you know its gonna be Venom without Peter Parker because???????

Is Garfield going to want to play second fiddle to a character in another franchise when he has his own? Even if he is obligated to play the part in the contract, why would you exercise it on a Venom movie and not another ASM sequel?

But forget about the actor, but the character itself. Is Peter Parker/Spiderman really going to be a supporting character? Is the public going to buy that, expect to see Spidey, only to be let down when they finally come to the realization that it was a Venom movie after all?

Spidey doesn't play second fiddle. It is like asking Batman to be a supporting character in a spinoff movie. Doesn't work. Never has.

Spidey will not be in this film. He might cameo though I'll give you that. But again, what effect does Venom have when audiences aren't even exposed to the effect the symbiote has on Spidey (the unmitigated disaster that was SM3 aside)?

No you're right...you figured it all out...they haven't said anything about the movie but you know all the angles...nice job

A Venom movie should have Venom as a villain, but have him realize he has to destroy Carnage for a reason.

Tbh, i think if this movie is made, Venom would be made into an Anti-Hero who is obsessed with killing Spider-Man, but is able to save a girl from a rape/robbery/whatever.

I don't know what the plan is. That's why we are on a forum to speculate. What do you think they will do with this?

i don't mean to bust your chops but I have been on this website a long time and I see this happen all the time. People overreact to little or no news...without seeing a trailer or anything.

Examples:
Michael Keaton will make Batman silly (now its hotly contested which was the better Batman between him and Bale...I like them both but he had a better Bat voice)

The X-men are in black uniforms...it'll never work
Heath Ledger will never work as the Joker

3 examples of this place flipping out about something and then being proven wrong. Its why I generally wait to see what happens

I don't see what any of those examples really have anything to do with Venom and a Venom movie.

I agree. Venom is different than all the rest because he is a mostly known as a Spider-Man villain, with Eddie Brock as the host of the symbiote although the comic books have moved away from that for years now. Some people may remember him from Marvel vs Capcom 2 video game, and his stint in Spider-Man 3, but as a character he doesn't have much potential except for squaring off against Spidey, and even his "arch-nemesis" Carnage is more of a Spider-Man villain than Venom's. Joker is WAY more recognizable than Venom is, but they never consider him for a solo movie. I just think this is a desperation tactic from Sony to try to milk more out of the Spider-Man movie rights than they could.

the point I was making is people tend to freak out without knowing the whole story...much like they always do

So what is the story going to be for Venom in a Venom solo movie? I'd simply like to know. I honestly don't think it can work.

Just because fans freak out about singular things about this or that, well I mean that doesn't mean automatically what they are making with Venom will be spectacular.

Agreed.

The thought of this movie being made is more absurd than Raging Bull 2 (yes, that's a real movie).

Truth is, until Marvel gets these rights back, expect mediocre stories.. 'nuff said.

And if Marvel gets the rights back...expect mediocre stories then, too.
