Vince Doesn't See Money in the Wrestling Thread

So, I decided to look up Bradley's history on his wiki page.

Anyone remember Ryan Braddock? I'm sure Bradley doesn't.

What's even funnier about this picture is that that's D.O.C. from Aces & Eights pushing the handcart.

So I had a good watch through some Japanese wrestling tonight given the recent discussions. I stand by my view on Devitt. I watched is matches with Shelley and Tanahashi, the one with Shelley was very poor as it had so much focus on the corner guys fighting and then just went into 5 minutes of "You do a move and then I'll do a move." His match with Tanahashi was better and he worked the crowd well enough but the actual wrestling was mediocre.

Devitt looks a bit like Daryl from TWD and if he brought his big Japanese version of Diesel with him then maybe he could get over, but if WWE fancy pushing another smaller guy into the mix then they already have Tyson Kidd who is a better worker.

Then I watched Okada's title win over Tanahashi and his defense against Togi Makabe. The match with Tanahashi is a MOTY candidate, Okada is unbelievably good for a 25 year old, his selling and offense are top class and I loved the story of the match. The defense against Makabe was not nearly as good because Makabe is a schlub who works like a sh**ty NOAH undercard guy with the stupid no-sell strike sequences, yet Okada still carried him to a decent match by working around his block headed style with his slick offense and feeding Makabe his big spots at the right time. Such an impressive talent.

Makabe is pretty good, but he is very over with the crowd. When I first heard of Okada/Makabe as the main event of Dominion, I wasn't sure but I was proven wrong. The fact that Okada had a match as that great with a guy who really isn't ready for the ME like Makabe speaks volumes. I respect your view on Devitt, but I don't know I've always liked the guy. Definitely their top Junior.

Well this is the only recent Makabe match I've seen and yeah I could hear the chants so in fairness he is over, but to me he was just another one of those Japanese wrestlers who think a wrestling match is about posturing and no selling moves, I hate that kind of work unless it's done by Kobashi, Kawada and Misawa as they always timed it right and understood how to build it to a crescendo. Just look at the match, Okada tries to no sell and eventually breaks down after 3 lariats, it was brilliant on his part and turned the match around as Makabe was getting off track with his Kawada-wannabe stuff. Okada is brilliant, I mean I just don't see how anyone could watch him and not see his talent.

As for Devitt, I am not really sure who else is working in the Junior divisions in Japan right now, are Kondo and Nakajima still around?

The matches Angle had with a lively Joe what, 6 years ago? That's not the same Joe, sadly. Just... not the same.

- There has been a lot of internal talk about WWE's long-term future internationally. Years ago, WWE's idea was that domestic business will be at a certain level, maybe not growing, but the big growth would be introducing the WWE product to new markets on TV and going to these new markets live once or twice a year but having a weekly TV presence.

However, after several years, the idea that business would end up 50% domestic and 50% international is not happening, and if anything, the domestic percentage is staying the same or slightly growing. It's been questioned where the next boom market is after an inability to maintain growth in Italy, Mexico, France, Spain and to an extent Turkey and Germany. Australia and the UK are the two outside markets that have remained very strong. The feeling within WWE is that the UK will always be strong but it’s the rest of Europe and Asia that the company is trying to focus on growing.

- Regarding the two Divas WWE hired for the E! reality show, Eva Marie and Jo Jo Offerman, the word going around backstage is that they are very bad in the ring.

When's the last time Kurt or Joe main evented a PPV? And Magnus is not there yet. Sting can't fight for a title anymore.

Ok yeah mid-carders But I'm still liking it,I wanted Magnus to join

Alright, the discussion on Okada and Japanese wrestling has my interest. What's a good PPV to check out? Dominion? Any others?

The booking of WWE during the year 2000....The late Chris Kreski is to thank for that, even when Stepanie started throwing her weight around. Everything Vince Russo wished he was as a booker lol.
Yeah, things were a whole lot better without Steph throwing her weight around. Sad that he passed away. The company could really have used his help right about now.

At the time so did I as I thought HHH was bound to lose and I was sick of The Rock, but in hindsight Mick would never have accepted that finish and he'd have been right.
Of course, we all know what was best for the business, but it would have been a nice mark out moment.

But neither are as good as their WM17 epic.
Nope, though the ending sucked.

Tenay is starting to get as bad as Cole.

Last week was his absolutely best!?,Pff

Ah, there's nothing like seeing Ultra Magnus joining the MEM as he's represents the future while Samoa Joe represents the present. With 2 hall of famers like Sting and Kurt Angle, Magnus definitely needs the rub. Just hope this doesn't derail his push.

Gutcheck needs to go and why put TJ Perkins back under the mask when he's revealed last week?

Is TNA planning things long-term like they claim here? Do they have any direction other than MEM/ Aces and Eights?

Nice to see the X-Division in the main event spot.

I also had a peruse of the top ROH guys and it was not a pretty sight.

Kyle O'Reilly and Eddie Edwards - They just remind me so much of Evan Bourne in how generic they look. Both need to develop beyond workrate before even TNA looks at them.

Kevin Steen - A sack of crap, I am truly mystified as to what has caused all the buzz around him. He's not a bad talker but he is looks like Kevin Smith and wrestles in what looks to be clothes that he stole from Smith's bin. His shoddy ring-work screams CZW not ROH.

Mike Bennett - For some reason I just think Buff Bagwell when I look at him. He's not a bad promo but whoever said he was the best all round talent to come along since HBK needs to check into rehab. The best thing about his act is Maria who is like a hot Ricardo to his less talented Del Rio.

Davey Richards - If he came in as "The American Wolf" Davey Richards and they played up his Jiu Jitsu training and he played down his obsession with stupid 15 minute finishing sequences, he'd be an IC champ for sure but with his passion focused properly he could get higher.

Paul London - I saw the highlights of the recent match where Richards almost jumped through his face. He looks as good as ever and if he's matured it would be worth giving him another shot IMO.

Roderick Strong - Is where he belongs.

Jimmy Jacobs - Kill it, kill it with fire!

Steve Corino - I was surprised he's still around, looks like he smells of stale piss.

Rhino - Is he still around?

Jay Lethal - He must be tired from treading water this many years.

The Briscoes - More frighteningly inbred than the Wyatt's could ever hope to be. Their lunacy is entertaining but I imagine just looking at them gives Vince hives. Too unsafe for TNA to take the risk.

Michael Elgin
- Looks like the ex NFL guy who was boss of the dorms in 'Saved by the Bell: The College Years'. He's built like a tank but clueless in the ring and short for his width.
