The name Cyclops never had anything to do with the visor, it was the fact that with or without the visor his eyes created a single beam as though from a single eye. Instead of remaining separate beams like most people with vision powers his beams merge into one beam.

No, sorry its because he had a visor. Next!

Actually without the visor the tendency is to draw two beams to differentiate from the visor which focuses the beam through a crystal latis into one blast.

yeah nice try SS. It was a nice theory but you were clearly reaching.
As a hard core Bull****er myself I have to laud the attempt though.

It won't last anyway, so what's the point in getting worked up? Everything reverts back to type in comics.

I know that but stupid character "development" is still stupid character "development."

If it reverts back to type, it's not really development though, is it?

Not a bad Idea, but it's not going to last.
Unless he learns how to control his powers, then it will be awesome.

The statement about his optic blasts came directly from the X-Men comics. Usually I can remember at least the storyline but I am drawing a blank on when they said it.

I think control is overrated. I'm of the notion that people, even comic book people, are better defined by thier flaws than by thier perfections.

Why do people take the names so literal? Even if he ditches the visor, he'll still be called Cyclops (I hope he keeps the visor though, even if he doesn't need it.) Nobody says anything about Nightcrawler, he doesn't have the abilities of a nightcrawler, he's not a worm, he's nothing like a nightcrawler.

That true. But then again, you don't see Nightcrawler losing his tail or something do you?

Yeah. I know. And Cyclops will still be called Cyclops. But his name is much more connected to that piece of equipment over his eyes than Nightcrawler's is to his tail...in my opinion.

Thats true, but i think they'll find a reason for him to wear the visor anyway (maybe only during combat situations), it will just be different when he's hanging around the mansion, he wont have to cover up his eyes, plus I bet they'll still have him sport red sunglasses.

I have no idea, but it's pretty cool. I love his visor, but it's a very intriguing development.

hmph.

too much history with him playing pool and raising his sunglasses up to FIRE A SINGLE BEAM at the cue ball because one of his other mutant traits is an uncanny knack at spacial relationships,... being able to instantaneously "see all the angles needed for bank shots ending in clearing a pool table with one shot - for example.

To end this I'll say,... does YOUR vision converge on what you are looking at?

Peace.

No. It doesn't. Either the optic blasts that Cyclops releases come out of a fixed point, regardless of where he is actually looking, OR they shoot out in the direction of which he is focussing his eyes. EITHER way, the beams start out individually.

For example, if they are set in their direction and can only be aimed by Cyclops moving his head, then they are always going to be TWO seperate beams. If the beams are directed by his line of sight (or, whichever way he his eyes are focussing), then they converge when they meet the pinnicle of his vision. So they would be two seperate beams that would converge at the point of impact, for example if he were aiming at Magneto's helmet, then they would converge when the beams hit Magneto's helmet, and not before.

ooo i kinda like this....

like being able to use and manipulate other mediums of the spectrum of transverse waves....

interesting

Looks cool, but it will never last and I don't want it to.

Eh,... can't argue pictures bucko.

I'll see if I can dig up a couple of clairmont pool shots,...

if we take logans claws can we still call him Wolverine

Well the thing is just because he gains control, that doesnt mean he will never use his visor. It will just be part of his costume.

I'm hoping that's the case.

I can get used to seeing him without glasses/visor in the mansion and with a visor in battle. I dont think that is terribly out of character.
