Visualizing A Superman Reboot: Pictures Welcome

I would say it was more the script than him. We have seen spacey do criminal master minds in usual suspects and seven. He was given a weak script and told to play luthor like hackman.

If he played luthor as not some real estate guy with ****** henchmen and a bussiness men with a taste for power and hate for this alien it would own fine.

I mostly agree. Like Routh, he had nothing profound or clever to say, and nothing new to do. It was an interpretation of an already flawed Hackman Lex. The only difference is Hackman rose above his flawed Lex. Sometimes though, it sometimes seemed like Spacey just didn't want to be there. I guess because the material was so weak, he didn't elevate his performance. Hackman seemed to enjoy his character.

Great actors, which he is one, often rise above bad material. Spacey didn't.

Exactly how did he do an excellent job? Sleepwalking through scenes, hitting his marks and saying terrible dialogue, screaming the word "wrong", ordering his goons around, performing most of his scenes with the useless character of Kitty, playing the most mediocre incarnation of Lex Luthor on any level of Superman.

Maybe it was simply the script, direction, and the other actors around him, but he certainly didn't look like the two time academy award winning actor that he is. Give me the reasons he was so excellent.

I give props to Routh and only Routh because after we analyze the terrible script, casting and story arc, and the rest of the crap,at least Routh felt like Supes to me.

Lex's problems in Superman Returns lie within the script. Not the actor. Spacey did an excellent job making an incredibly campy character somewhat darker (although still campy).

Hopefully if there is a sequel, they'll drop the campy aspects of Hackman's Lex and allow Spacey to do a better job.

Hmmm......

-TAS Superman/Clark Kent

-Corporate/Politician Lex Luthor...weave in the President storyline, with todays political climate, it could strike a note with the audience!

-For the very first time, actually cast a good Lois Lane. Margot Kidder was a chain smoking hag who is more likely to catch the attention of trailer park trashman rather than Superman. Disgusting hag. Watching Kate Bosworth is easy on the eyes, other than that, it's like watching paint dry. Erica Durance is awesome at playing hooker Lois Lane, but not journalist Lois Lane. Teri Hatcher......she was best of all, but come on, Hatcher can easily be topped.

-Both Kents alive, atleast at the start of the film.

-Martha Kent dying instead of Jonathan. I think it would be interesting to see the role reversal, and the impact that Martha had in Clark's life, and Clark coming to grips with his mothers death by once again looking to Jonathan. I took this right out of my own fanfic, in which Martha dies of cancer, along with flashbacks of Clarks childhood memories of his him and Martha, along with a few other moments. Martha's cancer leads to an emotionally charged scene with Jor-El in the FOS, where Kal-El asks for a cure, and Jor-El won't give it to him because that would interfere with mankinds own destiny, and Clark questions what Jor-El is really good for.

-METALLO....the perfect henchman for Lex. It's about time this guy got some screen time. Either Metallo or Parasite, but Metallo first and foremost.

-A character driven film. Some will try to say Returns was, and yes it tried to be, but it sucked. Some let me rephrase. A good character driven film, no, a GREAT character driven film.

- Great action scenes. Like I said, a character driven film first and foremost. Don't cut out the character moments for action scene's. But, the action scene's that are in the film should be amazing, blood pumping, kick ass scene's. For this purpose alone a super villian needs to be present.....Metallo:cwink:

- The shot from All-Star Superman with Supes relaxing on the cloud, perhaps listening for cries for help.

- One scene from Abrams script I want to see is Superman save a women from getting beat by her husband, flying away with the jerk, and scaring the hell out of him by dropping him from the sky and catching him at the last minute...."You never hit a lady"

-Maggie Sawyer and Dr. Hamiliton.

-Morgan Edge helping Lex Luthor.

-A piece of every Superman media. I know, I'm the anti-Donnerverse guy, but the John Williams theme should be there. TAS Superman/Clark Kent. A raven haired Lana Lang and a black Pete Ross. Another Noel Neill cameo. Or Phyllis Coates.John Shea as Morgan Edge. Gerard Christopher as a reporter at the planet decked out in the doofy Christopher Reeve Clark get-up, getting made fun of by Jimmy Olsen. Christopher should have been in Lois and Clark. I'm sure there are more idea's.

As for the actors themselves, the thing with me and Routh is, I don't know how to judge him honestly. I avoid Routh debates. From what I personally saw, he read Christopher Reeve and Marlon Brando's lines and impersonated Reeve physically, which isn't what needs to happen. Christopher Reeve was amazing, but he is dead, and the last thing that needed to happen was to try and clone Reeve's performance and character. This is where the TAS version will help, it's a different take on the character, and in my opinion a better take on the CHARACTER. Let a non-Reeve clone actor try and make the role his own. However, I would Routh a screentest, to see what he alone can do. Henry Cavill, David Boreanaz, Eion Bailey...these are just a few examples. Cavill, in my opinion, has the Superman look down without looking like a Reeve clone, and that is why he should be considered. And he can act his ass off, what else do you friggin want, a guy with the Superman look who might win an oscar one day. Boreanaz, I just love the guy and he just has the hero vibe better than most, which is what Superman is all about. And he has a personality that would be great for a 21st century Clark Kent. And I don't give a damn is he was Angel, I'm not anal about that crap. As long as it isn't an A-lister or a Paul Walker/Josh Hartnett/Brendan Fraser type, I'm cool. Eion Bailey is my dark horse, he is short, which can be corrected with camera work. He looks like an older, tougher Tom Welling, and gasp, he is a good actor.

I've covered Kate Bosworth. Please cast someone better. There out there, you know. Rachel McAdams, Evangeline Lilly, Morena Baccarin(I like raven haired girls), Keri Russell, Eliza Dushku, Elizabeth Banks...just to rattle off a few.

Kevin Spacey. I don't blame him for the horrid Lex, I blame Singer. He would be a great corporate/politician Lex. He really would be, although I prefer Jason Isaacs or Jaquin Phoenix.

Perry White, how about a little R Lee. Ermey, Ray Wise, or if you could nab him at a good cost, Dustin Hoffman. He is getting older, he might be willing for the fun of it.

Jimmy Olsen, I'm going to admit something. I liked Sam Huntington. Let him be himself a little more though.

Jonathan Kent....James Garner.

Martha Kent...Ellen Burstyn....good actress

Metallo....Jason Statham

Jor-El.....Gerard Butler. And not because of 300 damnit, I suggested this before 300 came out and I was blown off. I was all for him or Liam Neeson since 2002, and because Neeson was in Begins, my choice is Butler.

Dr. Hamilition...Brent Spiner

Morgan Edge....John Shea

There are multiple things that I'd like done differently.

Lex Luthor should be played by Billy Zane (nothing against Spacey), he should be a mutli-millionaire CEO of Luthorcorp. Zane would play it well.

A new Lois Lane should be cast. Nothing against Bosworth but she just isn't fit for the part.

I hate the flying in the movie. It looks to damn fake. More Routh, less CGI. No CGI capes or anything, all real. That's where the verisimilitude comes from.

The suit is too damn dark and the color pallete is horrible. It's just too gray and depressive looking.

I'd love a reboot with Routh as Superman, but that won't happen.

throw the kid under the house of kryptonite lex luthor is sure to have in the next film.

The script I guess. Alot of stuff was cut out of SR, most notably for me the Return to Krypton and Smallville stuff, that I though needed to be in there to hammer home some things that people would miss, and SO many have, otherwise.

That and the destruction wrought by New Krypton needed to be more spectacular. We were set up with the promise of devastation twice and then all we got was some so-so temors and the cool visual of Superman catching the Daily Planet globe.

And shouldn't there have been a tidal wave, too? I kept waiting for it, but it never came. Earthquakes in the ocean ALWAYS cause tidal waves or tsunamis.

I personally wouldnt change anything, except maybe have a bit more action.

Wheres the option for Lex?

Change Lex into a better villian!

I love Superman Returns and just because I want changes doesnt mean I hate Superman Returns.

* Make red on the suit brighter and maybe enlarge the \S/ slightly.

* Action fight scenes - the FX we have now would make great Superman fight scenes so I wanna see some

* Make Lex into corporate Lex, make Lex trick the people into thinking hes changed.

* Make Lois more likeable, I dont think Kate Bosworth can be blamed, Lois was just written wrong.

* Bizzarro and Brainiac as the villains, maybe even Mettallo too

* Dr Hamilton included

* Other people saved, not just Lois

Changing the actors will ruin it, its just a stupid idea.

Where`s the vote for everything?
Because honestly, other than the fact that Routh had square jaw, I saw nothing I thought was fitting for a superman movie.
Singer did this thing where he basically further developed Donners ideas, and guess what, he couldn`t even do that right.
Routh was mediocre at best. I never ever believed this guy was superman, In my own personal opinion he didn`t look right physically and that has always been an issue, the frame was unusually weak for a superman actor.
The suit was beyond horrible and the colors even worse.
So yeah, changing the cast is the number one priority for me.
The boy writers where terrible and I think most will agree that the script sucked. And thankfully they`re gone now, so we might get some writers that know how to make a movie worthy of superman.

I don`t know why so many are complaining about the Marketing department. I think they did a great job considering the horrible material they had to promote.
And the kid most definitely has to die.

Reboot all the way. And considering that Team Singer seems to be falling apart with the the departure of the writers, I wouldn`t be surprised if Singer left as well. I hope he does.

For Lex, get rid of the Singer/Donner angle, and make him invest the money he has left over into what becomes LuthorCorp.

Yeah, that way he'd continue to be a billionaire & he could remain a threat to Superman.

Yeah, really, where's the choice that says "Everything But Routh?"

Damn straight CS.

Routh was the best thing about SR by a country mile, for me. I guess I could accept wholesale changes for the next film if they were made but if Routh isnt given the opportunity to reprise the role and further develop it; I swear I just might cry.

Well, cry or be very, very pissed off and dissillusioned.

Either or............

I like him.....the worst thing he did was throw that dogs ball away....how rude.

in a deleted scene, the dog actually found it and brought it back

Personally, I heard alot of criticism about these writers for the lack of soul...but what do we really want?

If I recall one of the major complaints of Superma returns was that it was soft. Well at least we won't have that problem and I don't think transformers wasn't that souless.

It's a comic book movie....it's supposed to be fun and entertaining...a feel-good movie. I got that with transformers. Now I must admit...most of it was the FX and the performance of Shia Labeouf.
The story was devious..and the dialogues not so good..but i had fun. And
that fun I'm ashamed to admit didn't feel as much after watching SR.

And I love Superman I...and Donner is a god...But let's leave it at that. It was wonderful..but it's time to move on.

Let's bring superman to the XXI century. Let's keep the 70's clothes and haircuts in the 70's.

Let's do a proper Update to the superman suit. something cool, that looks good and most importantly that looks great flying (and yes...I'm talking about the astronaut boots of SR. in the flying scenes they looked like ciment blocks...no finess at all.) And that Hair..... the scene when Supes is thinking about saving lois or the city....Ouch...

Flying...don't know where to begin...what the hell happened? such potencial...and what they make is something that looks from smallville...really far away and that on screen looks like a moving dot.

And finally...Brandon...he looks the part..But I got the sense that Bryan didn't bother with a screen test and just went with the Chris Reeve look-a-like. Watching closelly..we can sense that Brandon is acting..I mean trying to hard..it doesn't seem natural... I wish Josh Hartnett did it.

But we have choices...people..no offence...can act. Henry cavill is the best choice for a restart...he has the acting abillity...he's 24...looks much older than 4 years ago..(that was the major against point with him at the time).
I just say...Why not?

sorry the bad english...:)
