Visualizing A Superman Reboot: Pictures Welcome

Yes, most people would think it is a trick and would be skeptical of this supposed heros' true motivations. Why would a hero try to trick us? The other thing you mentioned Angeloz is really one of the problems I had with SR. The mythos of Superman in current film continuity is he being a "god-like" figure with a myriad of religious undertones pointing to this fact. Yet a typical human reaction was never portrayed by the general public in the movie. I was under the impression that they would not have given Lois a pulitzer if her article didn't resonate with the readers. Yet, rather than showing resentment against Superman (whom abandoned them...nobody wants to be abandoned by their savior) they welcome him back with thunderous applause. I thought it would have been much more enjoyable to see Superman struggling to regain their trust. That to me is a lot more interesting than the aggregate seven minutes that was alloted to Jason's allergies.

I think they missed him. They liked him before and when he came back and saved the day they were happy. I think they were meant to be like us. That said I was with them in that I felt happy that he came back. Frankly if they were suspicious I'd think they'd be ungrateful bastards that didn't deserve him. By the way just because most people liked he was back doesn't mean everybody thought so. As for Lois she had a personal connection to him so I accept her right to be unhappy. But everyone else, just about, is a stranger and shouldn't feel as connected to him. As for the article it was written and judged before he came back. Things change and so do peoples feelings.

Who know. But I would love to hear his reaction on this. We never heard him saying anything about it since SR was in theater, so I hope he will at least mention it. I really want to hear his take on fans's criticism.

Like Burton (even Shumacher) and his commentaries? I don't think it changed peoples views though I found them interesting (haven't seen "Batman & Robin" yet).

Ok, the thing I want the most. Move away from the freaking Donnerverse.

Change everything with the exception of Routh. No more references to Donner...lets see some original material. That means a new score, new plot, and new villains. No more Lex Luthor. 5 times is enough I would say.

Isn't that more Spider-Man or X-Men though (i.e. distrust)?

Hi Angeloz. nice to talk to you again. :)

I think distrust before those kind of beings is humans' natural reaction. I refuse to believe that Marvel has the monopoly and trademark of humans' natural reactions. I do think that their writers many times use those emotions and reactions far better and more convincingly than other comics' writers. But that's another story.

'Cos I'll admit I loved that they liked that he was back.

The way it's proposed on SR is undeniable. Put a whole stadium about to die because of a plane crashing and then someone saving them in the last minute. No way they won't applaud.

Why should him disappearing cause distrust? Especially if he saved people when he came back. Or even first appears (though strangeness can be an argument). But not always (people could think it a trick of some kind until he reveals otherwise). Because if there was a flying man here I'd think it a trick and not an alien.

No no no, Angie. I was talking exclusively as an element to be used on the origin story. Once Superman is trusted, that's it. I could see some people still distrusting him (more like for envy or just some bitter guys) but in no case I think that should be a good idea for SR or any sequel.

Yes, keep Singer
Keep Jason
Add powerful villain to get superfights
Make the film tighter, a little shorter
Keep the heart of the story as in SR
And Brandon Routh MUST return, he Is Superman to me now:word:

Fine list, sir.

I'd strongly add:

- Keep Richard.

I wouldn't mind if they kept Richard but somehow, someway, Superman & Lois need to get into an actual relationship.

Oh they are. It's just it's absolutely irregular.

Now if you mean a normal love relationship... why do the story "need" that?

The style of the script. I enjoyed SR but it could definitely use some lightening up in the drama department.

And maybe the composer and editor need to be changed. As much as I like John Ottman's work, he should do one or the other for Singer's MOS... not do both. Heck, why not get John Williams himself to score the sequel? I'm sure Ottman wouldn't mind at all.

:yay: Yes, Richard too.

But I'm ok if he has a heroic death.

Basically, I want a true sequel to SR, which is a great film to me, but they really need to add more hard action and a faster pace to the sequel in order to make more $$.

And please, please keep Jason, he offers an emotional balance. I liked him in SR, and I'm sure he can work in MOS as a subplot to add more depth to the character of Superman. Yes, I like Supes as a father, as long as that is not the main plot in the story. The main plot should be Superman protecting the world against an evil supervillain. Oh, and now that Supes is at peace with his mission and knows his place on Earth, I expect to see him more content.

and I'm a girl.:cwink:

Well, I also would like for Superman and Lois to end up together, but not easily and until the end of the series. I want them to suffer a little, hehe, and earn it. You know what I mean?

I'd be ok with it if Singer does it very convincingly. On the theory it sounds too predictable and not quite necessary.

More agree I couldn't be.

Superman as a father for me is the next logical step on this franchise. I applaud Singer for that because most directors wouldn't have been brave enough to do it and specially in a convincging way.

and I'm a girl.:cwink:

Oh. My. God.

EDIT:
See, MP? I knew I wouldn't be the last to mistake you for a guy.:p:hehe:

lol, I guess my brain could have never accepted so much wonderfulness. :D

You left out Bryan Singer from your list.
REAL Superman fans want him OUT.

Please don't use that "real fans" crap. Honestly, why does liking SR make one not real "Superman fans"? Who are you to judge who are real fans & who aren't? Different Superman stories has different take on the character. Doesn't mean no one aren't "true fans". :whatever:

Exactly! I will never understand why these boards question the level of fandom when someone posts in disagreement. I thought that the participation in this forum kinda suggests that any participant is a Superman Fan.

Yep. Some tend to question those if they are fan because they like this vision of a character where other doesn't like it. When you have 70 yrs. of history on Superman, there will always be different vision of Supes. Same way for Batman & others.

The change i want the most is Bryan Singer out.

If it's a sequel, then it won't change much. They'd still have to work with what Singer did in SR. Changing the writers was enough, imo.

Now if it's a reboot...then, yeah.

Even though I liked SR (despite it's flaws) and I really want to see at least one sequel, I'd love a reboot. It could be awesome if done right. I guess I'm just....scared....of change. I really like Routh and the Superman theme and they'd probably change those with a reboot, so I just want a sequel, for now.
