Wal-Mart worker dies after shoppers knock him down

http://news.yahoo.com/nphotos/Wal-Mart/ss/events/bs/022505walmart;_ylt=AhRNylwoS5ilBaZR_GB03wzLLJ94
A worker died after being trampled by a throng of unruly shoppers when a suburban Wal-Mart opened for the holiday sales rush Friday, authorities said.
At least three other people were injured.
Wal-Mart Stores Inc., in Bentonville, Ark., would not confirm the reports of a stampede but said a "medical emergency" had caused the company to close the store, which is in Valley Stream on Long Island.
Nassau County police said the 34-year-old worker was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at about 6 a.m., an hour after the store opened. The cause of death was not immediately known.
A police statement said shortly after 5 a.m., a throng of shoppers "physically broke down the doors, knocking (the worker) to the ground." Police also said a 28-year-old pregnant woman was taken to a hospital for observation and three other shoppers suffered minor injuries and were also taken to hospitals.
The dead worker's name was not released.
"Local authorities are looking into the situation," said Wal-Mart representative Dan Fogleman. But he said it would be "inappropriate for me to share any additional information" until authorities investigate further.
Shoppers around the country lined up early outside stores in the annual bargain hunting ritual known as Black Friday. Many stores open early and stay open late. The Valley Stream Wal-Mart usually opens at 9 a.m.

:csad::hehe:

Saw this in the news this morning. Absolutely ridiculous. The materialism and greed that revolves around Black Friday is a glaring example of humanity's flaws; this incident only highlights that further. Disgusting.

It is hard for me to believe people can be like this over just things.

Truly outrageous. I think for this reason Black Friday sales should be banned. They may help your company, but at the risk of losing innocent lives to save a quick buck on that Furby that your kid is wanting? No.

yes, this is extremely ridiculous . i'm sure people just stepped over him and didn't think twice about either.

This just shows that the only thing society is thankful for is possessions and sh** they don't need but it was cheaper than it usually is. Awful. Consumerism at its very worst, showing the greed of the masses and the disassociation between our hunger, actions, and morals. Zero accountability. Watch your own back, Jack. I got mine.

Sure, go live in a cave :funny:

Insane. Consumerism kills.

....Now excuse me while I pre-order more TDK copies.

I agree the holiday crowds can get ******ed, but I'm not surprised. A bit after high school I worked for Wal-Mart as seasonal, and I saw less than intelligent actions. Also heard some funny stories from the regular workers. Like how 2 married couples running towards a toy and one husband tried to roll his cart towards the other to slow them down and the other husband tried to jump over the cart, his foot caught on it, and he fell flat on his face....ppl lol.

The reason I avoid stores right after Thanksgiving tho. Not going to risk getting trampled to save 75 cents off of dish soap, or $2 off of a camera or something. Tho that half torn open package of generic dracula kids makeup, and 20 year old candy corn that's half price off the day after Halloween can be tempting.

This is why we need a new plague.

Damn. 34 years old. Young too.

What a shame. Christmas has evolved into some sort of rabid sale hungry beast.

Jesus is pissed.

And how many people realized they were stepping on someone but didn't let that slow them down. And how many people saw someone on the ground hurt and did nothing lest they be slowed down.

I hate people.

Awful. This is why I have almost lost all faith in humanity.

Another reason to just sleep in on Black Friday.

What were these people thinking? What was going through there minds as they walked right over a dying man?

Little Hans: Oooh mommy look! A dead body1!!!!

Mommy: Don't distract mommy; she has to find your Wii.

Mommy charges off through crowd, drop kicking and grenading her way to the Electronics

Little Hans: *digs pen out of his pocket* Its like operation! *pokes body* Soon other toddlers join him.

JustABill: Why ban them? Crazy people make for damn good entertainment.

On the plus side, always low prices.

Mr. Wooden Alligator, who names their kid "Little Hans"?

And this is why I've never shopped on Black Friday in my entire life. :down

I like to shop a few days before Christmas.
