This was asked in the BOF forums and just want to know if he was screen tested or he was just offered the role based on ONE good performance.

I read that he was screen-tested and Nolan was amazed by his acting.

Was he? Do you have a link to your source of this information?

i remember the quote about Nolan being excited by the concept of Ledger's Joker voing up against Bale's Batman, but i dont recall if they specifically did a screentest for Ledger.

Christopher Nolan said:
Our challenge in casting The Joker was to find an actor who is not just extraordinarily talented but fearless. Watching Heath Ledger's interpretation of this iconic character taking on Christian Bale's Batman is going to be incredible.

And he really looks very good as Joker

Cinemaman, there is still no confirmation that he actually screen-tested. There is just an assumption that he will incredible.

I know. This is a stupid thread, because there's no way we can know if he was tested or not at this point.

No he wasn't.

Chris Nolan was baking a cake and spilt some flour over his Brokeback Mountain DVD.

Then Emma Thomas drew some red lips over Ledger's picture.

History was made......

Well like theShape mentioned its realistically impossible for us to know at this stage how exactly Ledger nabbed the role.

i find it hard to believe that he didnt test for the role.

For a role like this its a guarantee that he screen tested. He's an A-list actor, but he's not at the level where he's given the part solely b/c of who he is without a screen test.

Yes, he was. Remember the LR vs. BOF article @ LatinoReview... they took it down because they made up with Jett but in that article they reported that the director was amazed by Ledger's screentests.

For a role like this, Ledger had to be screen tested. No doubt about it. He had to be.

He tested for the role of course. I'm also sure of it that production is a lot further along than people think and not only did he read actual dialogue from the script, I'm sure Bale tested with him..............

not many saw this dude, if someone was able to copy-paste the article they took down it would be so much better.

Anyone who thinks he didn't screentest is an idiot. He's never played this sort of role before, so obviously they would have made him screentest.

Nice.....too bad that the article was only up for a short amount of time.

If you blinked you missed it.....

Ah, how Schumacher-esque.
It all makes sense now.

Link?

I would imagine that Ledger had to screen test. It's not like a romantic comedy where they could cast anybody. It's the Joker. Not everyone could pull that off. That's my opinion and I'm stickin to it, lol.
