Watchmen

Hey everybody. Long time lurker on the Watchmen forums; I'm usually glued to The Dark Knight threads. Anyways, I read Watchmen on my flight to Ireland last year and I'm a bit surprised about how many people found it hard to read. Understandably it is a lot to take in but that's what really hooked me. The fact that the newsclippings and psychological reports went so in depth with certain things was really impressive to me. My favorite thing about this was I understood where each character was coming from whether I agree or not is a different story.

Yeah so I finally finished it and man o man this is the best of the best but i can understand why some would not like it. Its content would turn some off but yeah it amazing and I can not wait to see them turn this into the film i know it can be then again im slightly scared it may not turn into the film every one would like it to be. I have faith in Snyder so heres to nothing!

I just ordered a copy at Barnes and Noble. Should be here in a week or two. I'm excited!

I justed finished it, and I wish i were still reading it cause its so good. One of the best novels i`ve ever read, really deep, dark and complex. This is gonna be one hell of a film, theres imagery in this book that when u try and picture what zacks gonna do with it in the movie....all i gotta say is that film is going to be f**ing banannas lol
favorite people r that inkblot guy and dr. man....wat eva i cant spell lol
The ending of this book was really haunting, and profound. So sad...I loved every page. 10/10

If ur not done reading.....HURRY THE F**K UP.
If you havent bought the book or read it...WHAT THE F*** R U THINKING, GET IT NOW!!!!! lol

The first time I read it I found it to be a difficult read. I picked up a lot more the second time I read it.

Definitely not the best from DC or my fav but it's in the top 5 for both.

If your a bit more..astute..you will get the meanings the first time you read the novel. But even for me,the ending was something I had to re-read. Still,it gets me when ever I think about it. "They actually let it go..they just continued on with their lives after what happened? Like nothing happened at all?"

I'm seriously thinking the movie will change the ending,or Velt's motives for doing what he did.

It won't. That's already been confirmed. A few details are changed, though.

I just finished it and loved it! I thaught the ending was absolutely brilliant and I didn't see it coming. I was also impressed with how Moore presented thhe character's complexities and relationships with one another. Definatly one of my new favorite books now. Can't wait for the film.

I just finished reading this as well. I liked a lot of things about it -- The back and forth between hot and cold colored panels, the parallel story lines between the Watchmen and the guy who got shipwrecked and was trying to get home. I did find the over all tone of the book to be kinda derpessing and sad, though. I am not sure I like how it ended. I didn't like Rorsharch's fate, he was my favorite, even though he was a bit of a psycho, lol. I do think I need to read it again, maybe in a little while, it's a lot to process all in one sitting.

It's usually a lot better on second and third readings. You find something you missed everytime.

Has anyone else ever wondered if scientists would run a DNA tests on the "creature" and realize it wasn't real?

Or did Adrian engineer it to be impervious to disbelief?

I question whether uniting the world against a common enemy like that would even have worked. Humans are so petty about things. It might make a temporary peace, but not a lasting one. :(

It was a temporary solution. Manhatton and Rorschach both knew this, but Rorschach would rather let the world die instead of delaying it with a lie.

It's up to the reader wether or not The New Frontiersman publishes Rorschach's diary, but "nothing ever ends."

I'm reading the graphic novel right now and after each comic there is a section from different journals or articles about something going on in the Watchmen universe. Are these vital to the story to read? I'm in chapter 10 and I have read all of the them up until chapter nine. I have a hard time reading these because they don't seem interesting to me. The last one I read was about the Owl. I just read it and tried to get through with it. Is there something in there that I need to know about for the story? I'll wait and finish reading after I get a response from y'all. Thanks.

You can go without reading them, but they're useful if you want to understand certain aspects of the story.

The only one I found that didn't have anything to add was the one that talked about the pirate comic the guy was reading. I had no idea it was a real comic, I thought they had just made it up for the story, but my older co-worker said he actually remembers reading it as a child. For the most part I skimmed the articles. I liked the Owl ones and the ones about Rosharch.

It depends...Tales of the Black Freighter is an original story from Moore. I believe the Blackbeard one is, too, unless he got permission to credit it to a fictional character. Was your co-worker talking about either one of those, or another?

I just finished reading this graphic novel. I really liked it. I did not see the ending turning out the way it did. I hope to reread it soon so I can catch some things that I'm sure I missed.

I think that'd be horrid actually. Dave Gibbons had the perfect style and was capable of creating an atmosphere that Ross simply can't. I like his work, but it would've seriously hurt Watchmen if art had been done by Ross. It'd be a beautiful art piece, but would be detrimental to the story.

What about Ross doing the flashbacks/pictures and things like that and leaving the rest as it is?

I think that would be pretty cool. Would really set the past apart from the present.

Ross already painted the Watchmen once, I'd love to see the artwork redone by him.

As for the GN itself.. I finished it a couple days ago. I definitely liked it, but I don't get all the "greatest graphic novel of all time" claims. Either way, I've now added someone new to my huge favorite characters list: Rorschach.
