The books were set in the 90's so I see no reason why we can't assume the films were. The Deathly Hallows firmly establishes the timeline with the plaque outside the Potter house.

Why in the living Heck would you want to bring in Shyamalan after a DECADE of failing. I'm not even being hateful; I'm just looking at his stats.

Even the most hard-pressed fans of his are worriesome of his future. Not only that, but M's head is in his butt now. I swear, he lives in his own world now and he's suffering for it. Not a good idea to bring him into a popular million dollar franchise like this because he's an absolute liability. Look at The Last Airbender.

I'm gonna go way random, but I want jean-Pierre jeunet to direct this. He needs another blockbuster (speaking as somebody who enjoyed alien: resurrection for the most part but absolutely loved amilie).

Shyamalan would be horrible; just look at his last adaption. Dude is a vain control freak it seems anyway when you look at his exit from Disney over his vainly project Lady in the Water. WB would be taking a big gamble with Shyamalan, who hasn't delivered in recent years.

M. Night seems to be a nice guy but you can tell he's a complete narcissist. I'm not even joking and trust me, I've worked with 'nice' narcissists before. They're not perspective or initiative to the potential (and limits) of their talents. It's this disconnect that ruins them.

I like him enough because his earlier films are good in my opinion. However, his films have gotten progressively worse and The Last Airbender was a dry and soulless adaption that sucked the heart out of the story.

Absolutely. it's really, really hard to defend him now.

He's like your drug-addicted friend/relative that you keep on defending and helping out because you believe in him. And over and over again, he keeps on screwing up.....and eventually you'll just give up..

Or M. Night is like that abusive boyfriend that you keep going back to.

I'd like to see Alfonso Cuaron return (his is still probably my fave Potter film) but I think Peter Jackson, Andrew Stanton, Francis Lawrence, Sam Raimi or Duncan Jones would all do something good with it..

Yeah that's why I said it would never happen. His visual style and ability to also do character driven stories makes him ideal. I doubt the film will be very bogged down with plot because it just seems like we would fallow Newt while he's exploring.
