We need another movie like Aliens, Predator, Terminator...

Hahaha, Serenity doesn't count as it is...Serenity. lol.
When the TRAILLER bores you to sleep? Trouble.
And if I see one more story about "The One"...some "chosen" bad-ass in an unexpected form.....:whatever:

As a wanna-be writer, I got to say those stories are just so much fun to write though :( BUt then you look back and your like this is utter crap, and as such I've stayed clean for some years :(

Lol, to be one the fans of these movies is fine. Completely up to you. But I think calling them "solid" action movies is taking things a bit far.

When I think of a solid action movie with no problems, I think of something like Terminator 2. Always will be one of my most favorite movies of all time. Good story, good acting, great effects and GREAT action.

Well here is where you've gotta actually read what I am saying

I consider T2 a great freaking movie, much better than Transporter, but transporter still has everything you need to make a solid action movie. A lead everyone can love, and kick ass Luc Besson style action, it is a very 80's action style movie, its not great, its not T2, but they are okay, and solid

Well, I think back in the 80's it may have been a solid movie. The action was ok, but the story was really weak. Hardly anything was known about Statham's character.

2 was pretty bad. The action was really over the top, and there wasn't any continuity except that Statham was still the lead, and that cop was still around (albeit now as Statham's "friend"). I also didn't like the kinda dumb role the French policeman played in the sequel.

Not trying to change your opinion or anything, just giving the reasons that I was kinda put off on these two films.

What happened?

I watch Aliens and Alien 3 this weekend for the first time, and being a big fan every major action/thriller/sci-fi-ish adventure movie of the great eighties....what happened. Where have all the Aliens and Predators of the world gone. What happened to new ideas. Why haven't we gotten an action movie like that again...with a plot and characters that take themselves seriously. I mean The Rock was fun, Casino Royal was good escapism...hell X2....but what happened to these truly original, truly strong action thrillers. X-Men, Batman and Superman are just lazy franchises compared to these things. What happened to movies built from the ground up; out of fever dreams from Cameron's head (which is where Terminator came from).

We need more of these movies...and fast, have we just used up all the ideas...
I agree 100%:up: I've felt the same way lately. Action movies are just bland now, they feel so generic and unoriginal.

Of course they have they're flaws, alls I am saying is that for pure action they are fine, solid movies

and what more is it you would like to know about Stathams character? what more do we need to know abou frank martin to make the movie work is what i am asking, i think we know enough about him to make the movie work, we get a tiny peek into his past with one how he doesn't want to risk his life to help someone in need cause he spent part of his life already doing that and he didn't want to do it again, and then he becomes subject to change once he finds out the real dealings going on, so that makes him a round character, albeit a lamer round character. But what more do you want really

some one a couple posts back said the Rundown is the best action movie of this century, I don't nessecarliy think he is wrong, but its not like the Rock's character in that movie is this deep layerd character, nor does he have to be to make the movie work

John Mcclaine isn't this deep character ether, he is the same in everymovie tough New York city cop, who doesn't want any trouble but will give you some if you ask

the question was asked what happened to good ol action movies of the 80's, die hard is one of them, I love die hard, and the Transporter shares many of the same qualities that make die hard awesome, its not better, but if we are talking about visceral action the transporter movies are in the same league with any of the good ones made this century

Meh, I guess. All we ever hear is that he's ex-military. That's supposed to explain why he can single-handedly take down that immigrant smuggling ring, or whatever it was, in the first movie.

And like I said, the complete lack of continuity between The Transporter and it's sequel also really bothered me.

I was not impressed with the Rundown, either. It also had some decent action sequences, but the story was also pretty weak. However, I did like it more than I did the Transporter.

Answer is simple Hollywood lost its balls. The high concept movies from the 80's like Back To The Future and Terminator are too risky for todays hollywood. They would rather make lame remakes and sequels that have a higher chance of making money.

Pitch Black was great.

Sadly without the monsters Riddick looked lonely.

Well the thing with Terminator, we have to remember is that it was almost an indie at the time, made for like 5 million dollars, it became a little sleeper hit and made like 40 at the box office

then due to the popularity hollywood issued a big budget sequel, and because of the recent popularity of Arnold Schwartsenegger, and James Cameron w Aliens, and the fact it is an excellent movie, they gave T2 like 20 times what the did terminator

so it wasn't like they had the balls right from the beginning to make that movie, they had to play it out and see what the fans reaction to the first one was

Basically all I am saying is they are visceral action movies, what more do you expect?

Now with the comic book movies that have an established character with a great backstory, and they turn that into a completley visceral action flick like Ghost Rider, I don't care for those

but if its an original movie, and they just want to go action with it, more power to them, cause thats all the classic die hard really is

Amusingly enough, I haven't seen a Die Hard movie. So I can't agree/disagree with your take on the original. I just know that it's considered an action classic by most and Transporter and it's sequel are not.

If action was all that mattered, you wouldn't even HAVE a story. Just a 90 minute, non-stop action sequence. Look at Unleashed. Not one of the greats exactly, but it had a coherent story with decent character development, and a LOT of action. You don't have to sacrifice quality to make a good action movie, which is what I think they tried to do with the Transporter films.

Your comparing 2 completly different movies, outside of the fact both are written by Luc Besson and directed by Louis Letterier, they are really nothing a like, Unleashed shoots for a completley different goal than Transporter does

Unleashed is a movie you compare to Leon the Professional, where as Transporter is a movie you compare to Die Hard, or Commando

Lol, Commando was terrible, also. And that's coming from a LONG time Arnold fan. Putting Transporter in the same boat with Commando doesn't help your case much, :p

To be fair Commando was "awesomely bad" not terrible. Yeah it's stupid, but it's fun stupid.

I must agree. That is what seems to be the case.

how about the terminator-alien-predator

hes a teminator, from another planet who preys on people

The Fifth Element is more or less a parody of sci-fi heavy action films, especially "Stargate" and The Last Starfighter...stuff like that.

What is your effing deal today?
Since it seems to be so taxing for you to wrap your mind around any and everything I say today, why don't you put me on ignore so you don't have a blow-out. Plan? :)

Before you do it though, I'll try to put it so you can understand it.....Serenity is derivative and.....no, big word.....

Um.........Serenity Sux.
also, everyone except the delusional knew it was going to be a flop, so no, it didn't have enough riding on it to be solely responsible for the current dearth of sci-fi action movies.
