World Web shooter shop class - Part 2

Yeah I'm pretty sure that if I jumped of a building with the web shooters and attempted to swing on to a building my arms would disconnect from my body or the shooter would break and I would plum-it to the ground and die...

"plum-it"? Plummet, man. Plummet is the word. lol

And also, this week, since it's spring break, I may just get up the will to go out and get some more cellulose. I may not though, considering the place that has it is pretty far away.

And here's just a general note to anyone on swinging... let's go from step to step to see if it's possible to swing.
So you jump off a building and shoot a web.
Here's what would happen... if the previous part in the list would not happen, then the next would.
•you can't hang on
•web line breaks
•shooter breaks
•arms rip off
•you slam into the thing your web is anchored to
•your web would be stuck in your shooter or hands
•you aren't able to pull yourself up to get a suitable anchor, and have to drop down and shoot another one that is lower, thus repeating the process above

Now, let's say you start from a neutral or low speed and/or altitude position. Let's look at this... if you shoot a web in front of you, consider it as the hypotenuse of a right triangle... the longest side... If you tried to swing, your line would just swing down and cause you to hit the ground, if you could get up enough tensility for it to even be taut enough to swing.

If I were to attempt to swing I'd do what you said start of with something small then raise the height each time. Unlike Mr. Andrew Garfield jumping off a big gov. building and walking away like nothing ever happened.

So I was snooping around the web(budump TSS!) and I found something that was pretty much a solid model of what we're trying to accomplish; a bracelet that shoots pepper spray. It fires from the palm(which I can see easily being modified for double tap), is refillable as far as I know, and could probably be able to shoot pretty far with some slight mods. That sound good? If volume I the cartridges is an issue, we can just hook it up to the back pack idea.

Dude that is a great idea, you should try that out! You'll probably have to modify it to where you can shoot farther(Backpack). I'm not too tech savvy about web shooter components and stuff, hopefully someone else will have a idea on how to set it up.

I know what your talking about. WW found it a few years back. It only shoots a mist though, and it works more like a water gun. By the time you would finish modding it, it would be so complicated, you'll wish that you just built something from scratch.

Yah WW and I discussed that it would be counterproductive to try and mod one of those sprayers. Plus I think the cartridges are one time use only, so refiling them would be extremely tedious. But I agree that if the design were a little different, that product would be exactly what we need.

Yes, sir. That's correct; I just took everything out of a TV remote and put what I needed inside (i.e. batteries, relay, PCB, etc.). I really like the remote idea, but you really can use anything you want, as long as it's enclosed and can stay relatively discrete. I've seen a lot of usage of the Altoids tins, though I don't know how that would fare with your design. I could also suggest slicing the top off of a metal flask, and using the inner space for what you need. However, I don't know what sort of money that would cost, or how much you're willing to spend.

On the wrist-mounted pepper spray... I do remember when Robbie found that one. They're not all that discrete, and they're not really modifiable. I wouldn't suggest investing in that, unless you plan to fight crime and you need the pepper spray.

NextGenHero: Robbie left August 5, 2012 for his mission trip. He stopped posting a few days before that. However, I have been thinking lately... he probably doesn't have any reason to come back. He probably won't; he will move on to bigger, better things. Not saying this isn't big already, but I think he would probably be looking into getting a career, not a hobby.

However, friends, let's not be pessimistic. I have a bit of news.
I got some cellulose today, and did a bit of testing. However, I will elaborate more in the formula forum.

For my base of the shooter I'm trying to look for something that wouldn't break if I were to jump off of a building with the shooter. The watchband is what I'm hoping to use to hold it on to muh wrists.

well, maybe before we move on to swinging, we should focus on easier things. For now, lets at least get a working shooter PLAN before starting to buy things. If your ideas don't work, you might end up wasting a lot of money. Just looking out for you, that's all.

If you really want to test stuff, start by testing individual mechanisms, parts, and concepts alone. Then once you get all of them to work, you can build a shooter.
Example: back in the days when we didn't know if a pump would provide the pressure we needed, I connected an old ball pump to a plastic water bottle half full of acetone and made it air tight. Then I pumped it a bit. When I poked a hole in the bottle, the acetone shot out like a water gun. Then I knew it would work on a shooter. In fact, that's the very concept the Wadaltmon uses on his shooter.

Please please PLEASE get your mind off of swinging, I don't want to turn on the news one day and hear about a Super Hero Hype poster named NexGenHero that jumped off a building and died due to belief that his web shooters would work, and that we are all wanted to questioning. PLEASE, I'm not trying to ruin your fun, I just want you to be safe. So does everyone else in the forum. Listen to Wadaltmon, he knows more than all of us about these things. All of us here are your friends, and how would you feel if you suspected that your friend is attempting to jump off a building and have his life depend on a device built by a twelve year old? I'm just worried okay? We all are. I know that I'm not your mom or anything, but I know that she wouldn't encourage this.

Its for the most part impossible right now to build one to swing on. If you still want to keep on the swinging shooters, I am going to tell you that web won't work. If it was strong enough to hold you. it would never come off once you grab it. You would have to use some sort of line, and even then you would have to go one building at a time, none of that tarzan junk. You body just couldn't handle it, and it would rip even some parkourists to pieces. If you won't give up, then I'm going to have to ask you to refrain from any more discussion of swinging on this forum, because it has been stated by the starter that its not to be discussed here. Robbie DID say though that he would create a place where you could go to do that. You wouldn't have to leave this forum, just don't talk about the swinging parts. I'm afraid that there won't be anyone over there at the moment because everyone there realized how ridiculous the notion was. The forum is called Real Grappling Gun here:

If thats not enough to convince you, then I'll have to resort to reminding you that swinging on building would be illegal on so many levels: reckless behavior, vandalism, trespassing, air traffic violations, etc. It is against the terms of service of Super Hero Hype to discuss the premeditation of illegal activities. I'm sorry, but this is for your own good. I hope that you can just listen to reason and stop this dangerous nonsense.
