World Web shooter shop class - Part 4

I've had to basically put this project on hold for a little while. I'm going to start up again on May 12th after school is done and I start working for the summer. I want to focus on school and my videos until then.

But I looked at Shapeways, and it's not as expensive as I thought. My piston was about 15 dollars to print. Problem there is that I kind of wanted to print 8 of them...

I feel you about having to put it on hold. This is more of a free time project for me as well. Time is the most important resource.

As for the piston, does that mean that you are going for a piston based pressure vessel? Are you still using acetone for the main solvent?

Yep. The pressure vessels are operated by a piston to allow for pressure no matter the direction of the vessel on space. Yes I am using 2 pressure vessels on one shooter.

Also I am not using the solvent drying method. How it works is in the Google Document you sent me

Way sweet! I'm sorry. I didn't see that you added to the google doc. I'm glad that someone is using it. That's interesting that you are using a two part formula. How are you planning to mix it so that there is less waste material?

There is no waste material. the products of the reaction are all parts of the mixture that is the Web output.

so it's not like AB foam where it needs equal parts of component A and component B?

I think it operates on the same concept, from what I can see in that picture, but my vessels are much larger.

Do you do any 3D modelling? I can send you the model of the piston.

oh. I don't know how to do it. There are tutorials on youtube for a program called blender that I'd recommend.

Yeah I do 3D modelling for games and stuff already. I was just wondering if you did any and would want to loom at the 3D model I made of my piston.

Oooooohhhhhhh.. I got you now. Sorry about that. I misunderstood. I'm good. Thank you though. :}

I'll be putting out the Web talks episode on pressure vessels tonight if you're interested.

Hey guys. I was getting ready to get to school when i realized that hair gel might work in the formula. It drys up in the air after a while and it becomes dry. Just a thought.

Hi Skyward master! I don't think I've had any interactions with you. Nice to meet you.

As for the hair gel, what is the make-up of the gel? What polymers are in it?

That might be a good additive for stiffness. What is your working goal right now? If you want to make a fiber come from your shooter, you are going to need to extrude it with heat, electricity, or some kind of liquid bath (though I'm not sure how that would work...).

No matter what, I think it's going to come out as a foam.

Hey White Widow it's nice to interact with you. As far as so I know it's made of a catonic polymer. I'm not much of a chemist, I'm rather more of a mechanical guy so I don't know exact details.

To "Skyward-Master":Thank you my man. I think that the reason that it dries so quickly because the two main ingredients are water and wax. I think that the water evaporates because it seperates from anything else.

To "the.amazing": Sorry, you were right. I was arguing a semantics thing. Extruded foam vs a fiber. That's what I meant. It will certainly work to produce the string effect. Do you want the expansion of the foam (so that a little fluid goes a long way), or do you want a stronger filament (at the cost of space)?
