So what do you think of my webshooter design I'm 14 and I really do want to help in this project and I started learning physics and chemistry in library myself ever since white widow started that first thread so please don't too hard on me.

The thought process sounds correct, but to determine if it is accurate we need specifics. We are working with a pressurized system, and as such, the weakest link in this kind of chain can cause a minor explosion. (It's not fun. I've felt it.)

I did tried a formula why don't you try it out its whitening toothpaste,baking ,soda,salt,contact cement,fibreglass resin,liquified hot glue stick,pure acetone and styrofoam.I mixed it up as fast as fast as I can then I got this white sticky fluid then heat up in my microwave without grandma knowing.I then pour the fluid in a syringe and fire it,and it worked pretty well.

Well, the first issue here is that you didn't measure any of the ingredients, but more importantly, we need to know the layout of your shooter. If it's made of PVC, you're in trouble. If it's not, it has to have a self sustaining heat source. None of these things are necessarily problems (except for my first point), unless there is something in the shooter that clashes against the formula. For example, only a metal shooter will work against Ketone solvents. That's why I use D-limonene as the solvent for styrofoam. (I used acetone for an experiment in forming strands, but the final product was meant to use the compound in citisolve due to it's environmental friendliness.)

Perhaps tell us the type, i.e. brand, of the ingredients? Also, tell us the amounts, or perhaps a ratio of the components? That would make it a lot easier.

I must say I'm a little disappointed to see that nobody really tried to explain the movie web shooters. With all the images, diagrams and even sketches we got of the shooter I've yet to see one person at least tried to explain how these shooters actually work. Is it because nobody can really explain it? Honestly I don't. But I know some of you guys like me might have a general idea? I'm sorry to go off topic but this really been disturbing me a lil. Anybody like to try to explain them. There are even 3D rendering of the shooters..... That's crazy

Like Batman, the reason it looks like it would work is because we don't truly understand their nature.

Also, like batman, we just want it to work. There's no way that the movie shooter would work.

think about it. There is no valve, there is no pressure, and the battery only works when he has a motor tremor. So that means no battery activated solenoid/mechanism. There is a cartridge, but it contains pellets, not fluid. This entire design with the exception of the micro-controller attached to a lever that connects a circuit with a lithium battery, is false. I could see a circuit, I could even see a sensor. My issue is that there is no valve and they are pellets in a cartridge the size of half a pinky. The watch parts don't really contribute to anything, except for the idea that peter is good at making things diy style.


Unless someone can prove me wrong, and suggest that there is a way to increase fluid out put and pressure with a few gears, this is the position I take.

1.) have a scanner at home?

2.)have a camera at home?

3.) Have microsoft paint?

4.)or have access to a library?

The purpose of me saying that was not to figure out "who does parkour?"
I really don't care honestly.
The purpose was to urge everyone on safety and on the fact that if you are planning on doing the idiotic action of swinging like i am, then it is essential that you know how to maneuver your body and safely get yourself out of bad situations.

I agree. Those of you who plan on swinging: just make sure you know that this web formula that we will make may or may not carry you. You should know how to tend personal injury, and know how to dissipate impacts from great heights, if you are going to.
I am going to swing as well, but I hopefully will get the formula right to the point where it hardens quickly enough, and stays strong.

well web I know how to move and have a high tolerance to pain and I'm going to test the formula before using it like on a street light. Before I go swinging with it, I have some common senses jes, just because you are older does not mean your wiser or smarter.

wait, what? Hold on, common sense? None of this is common sense. Also, street light? really? no no no no no. You are going to be falling, presumably from a third story. Any other height would be too little or much. Do you really want your only target of safety to be a light pole with a thickness of one's head?

I was thinking brick walls and maybe metal. Am I out of my element here, or am I right? Why would you try to latch onto something so small? Also, what about glass? I bet you want to swing on a material that is notorious for shattering. If we are going to throw caution to the wind and choose to swing, at least choose a base to swing from that can actually hold your weight.

So wood, metal, concrete, and brick. I think those are the only materials that the web should latch onto. Feel free to correct me, however, I think I am being reasonable here.

Hey my first design(before I actually know where the cartridge is) was that what if the cartridge could be a disk with an aerosol valve on each end which you place in the middle and the CO2 catridge(pellet chamber) with a solenoid valve will push the webbing in the disk cartridge and do that red spinning thing we see in every trailer.I did that webshooter design and made it out of mechanical watch parts then the blade spun so fast that it flew out and cut my index finger's skin(my grandparents did not know as I was doing this in the basement),but could it work without the motor blade?

A high tolerance for pain isn't going to matter. It's about keeping yourself together in the long run. You need to know yourself and your surroundings.

Widow is right. Don't be the idiot that tries to swing off of glass. However if you know the physics of it(still not recommended), a street light may not be that bad. But the lower to the ground you are, the more control you lose over the swing and the more chance you have of a reallyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy bad case of road rash. Also remember the gwen stacey incident and remember not to give yourself whiplash.
In reality what you swing on depends on your cities architecture.
but we shouldn't worry about that just yet.
A friend of mine is gonna try to snag a couple cheap Arduinos at Maker Faire for me to experiment with so i can have multiple running prototypes.

Swinging is cool but I'm building the webshooter just for like webbing stuff and since I got the 2012 movie suit I could wear that and the webshooter for halloween,that will be SWEET!!!

Ok now that all of you have mentioned that using a street light is not a good place to start. My city which is Miami there are a lot of buildings which have a lot glass there really isn't that much to swing from so that leaves very few buildings to swing from

Every city has different architecture, so it varies honestly. But right now we should stop worrying about that and focus our attention fully on the formula.
