Well....Shawn Levy is Directing the Flash

I feel that bringing Levy in doesn't bode well for seeing a Flash film that I would enjoy. His resume just doesn't lend itself to it. I'll hope for a good product and something that will be befitting of the character, but a lot of my enthusiasm just went out the window.

Is there any chance Goyer's script will be released to the public so we can eventually compare his version to Levy's?
i read somewhere that they will be using some elements of Goyer's script into writing the new one so it may take a while before that will surface.

have hope Hunter. remember that Peter Jackson wsa know for nothing more than B-movie horror flicks and one indie drama before taking on LOTR, and look at how that turned out. of course i'm not saying that we start expecting and epic Flash movie, just dont underestimate (or oeverestimate) directors based solely on their previous work. part of the reason why i'm a bit hopeful for Levy is that he certainly has the talent to tell a good story with morals but at the same time giving his audience a good time. thats something i'm looking forward to seeing in The Flash. as for the darker themed Fash i want that too, but thats what sequels are for :).

Hey steel haven't seen you for a while:cwink:I definitely won't pre-judge but it's a case of needing to be proved my fears are wrong y'know ? with some directors from the start your hopes are high b/c they have shown what they are capable of in the past, with Levy i just hope this is his chance to show he has more in the tank than CBD and Pink Panther

light hearted = cheesy forgettable crap

Ghostbusters and BTTF were cheesy forgettable crap:huh:

Looks like they want to go the same route as the Fantastic Four director, Tim Story, who's really not that bad, especially after watching the exciting trailer to the FF4 sequel.

Shawn Levy has directed an episode of the underappreciated BIRDS OF PREY, and the ANIMORPHS as well.

David Goyer may be a good writer but he's even a worse director than Shawn Levy. Blade Trinity sucked ass. Goyer should only write.

hmmm..... its funny how DC fanboys said Marvel would let anybody make their films.....:oldrazz:

OMFG. Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. :D

*Insert tribute to that Khan thingy from Star Trek*

God, I know Flash isn't exactly a dark/angsty, but, huh, Levy????

Weren't Cheaper By The Dozen and its sequel some of the most godawful movies ever???

ugh, I don't even get surprised at this kind of s#!t anymore...

sure, Goyer was a crappy director, but he at least had written some okay scripts before. but this? might as well have gotten Paul WS Anderson.

toddly is right by comparing this to Fantastic Four. except that Levy, as Story before him, is a cheap, marketable director, who can fast track this movie all the way to the razzies.

Honestly, i couldn't believe it. Goyer may not be the best director in town, but the man can be good (Dark City, Batman Begins) and he knows his comics.

This guy...my god. I know WB might of picked him b/c of his box office sucess, but chud.com made a good point: The comic book market has saturated and now it's time for the REAL Hacks to come in and ruin whatever is left.. Great..

Dear god.

The REAL hacks are heading our way... Be afraid, be VERY afraid. :D

ha ha ha!
be careful what you wish for.
I wanted goyer off the flash because of the blade 3 debacle had I known with him off would the director of cheaper by dozen at the helm I'd been more up for goyer.

flash with be camp and SUCK HARD

to be fair jackson did the frightners (top movie) before moving onto lord of the rings

hey dude! congratz of the recent promotion  being kept a little too busy by this annoying thing called real life ;), but i'll be trying to come by here as much as i could spare the time :)

Marvel makes better decisions because their whole company is at stake when they make a hundred million dollar film, they got no other sources of revenue other than the comics and the merchandising which may fall short if a big budget movie bombs badly. its all about mindset i guess. i'm not saying that WB feels like they can play fast and loose with the DC titles, but its just a different mindset when your thinking "if i mess up there's still a next time/ other films" vs "if i mess up i lose everything".

I think there is a chance we'll get to read Goyer's script... anyway, don't know what to think about this... I was kinda looking forward to "Flash" but now with Shawn Levy on board as director. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed "Night at the Museum" but I doubt he's the right for "Flash".

P.S.: Get Joe Dante for "Flash" ;)

A couple of things.
It's possible that some things from the Goyer's script might pop up in the new one; we still don't know who's the new screenwriter.
One of the producer of the movie is Charles Roven, who worked on the Scooby Doo movies, but also on Batman Begins and is working on the sequel.

Well if you're gonna have hope, I'll have hope too. I'll wait and see.

Lame.

Warner Bros. is so stupid, it's baffling. I have little hope for any DC film franchise outside of Batman...and hell, I'm surprised WB even let people work on BB who actually CARED about the character...

Who the **** is making decisions over there?!

...and they also want to make a crappy Gremlins direct-to-video sequel... OMG!!!! I hate Warners!!!!!!

Sorry.

Reading his resume' it's hard not feel he's a terrible choice, not only is he primarily a comedy director but he is a bad comedy director IMO......still having said that we can only wait and see but i don't blame Flash fans for feeling this is going in a bad direction.

And maybe there should be some pressure on them to change director BEFORE another abomination comes.

i read somewhere that they will be using some elements of Goyer's script into writing the new one so it may take a while before that will surface.

Copyright theft anyone? unless Goyer agrees for them to use his ideas.

I'll give the guy the benefit of the doubt. Most of his movies are crap, but I did enjoy Night at the Museum. :o So, let's just keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.

I guess WB wants The Flash to be their 'Fantastic Four'. Too bad FF was god awful.

I would love to give Levy the benefit of the doubt but it's hard.

Levy hasn't shown any variety in his past movies. Unlike Chris Weitz, who started with American Pie, then to About a Boy and The Golden COmpass. Thats' enough range to make me admire Weitz.

Levy is pure Hollywood kiddie crap. And when they say that they want Flash in a lighter tone, that's fine, but with Levy, I expect some cheese ball antics that are not funny..

i must say ... NOOOOOOOOOOOOO that kind of guy is better for Shazam or something ..
but! look at the good news.. its his next movie.. its not just another one of the movies he is conected to .. its his NEXT movie..
in other words.. he is starting pre production as soon as the script gets a green light...
granted it will be full of kid friendly jokes and stuff .. but ... ahh i just lost motivation ...

The positive thing: The Flash film is going to happen. WB is going to want to make the guy who directed the #2 film of 2006 a happy man. They'll stay out of his way and give him a quick greenlight.

The bad thing: As noted by nearly everyone: it's Shawn Levy. A guy who has shown little growth or talent in his 4-5 years of filmmaking.

Just wait until they start putting pressure on Singer to lighten up the Superman Returns sequel. We know that it had already started with WB telling him to put more action and less melodrama.

I though SR was awefully dissapointing but Singer can make a good film and I thought he could correct the mistakes he made in SR, other than the horrid kid. $10 bucks says Singer is off the project in less than 6 months.

Night at the Museum has made huge bucks at the box office, but it's a pretty lightweight, shallow film. It's not downright horrible, but it's far from great. I've seen Cheaper by the Dozen, and some moments are just cringe-worthy.

Levy was probably picked because the WB saw the dollar signs after Museum came out.

I really hope this isn't a reversal of the trend that Batman Begins started. Does the WB think it has to dumb down its movies after Superman Returns disappointed them?

The fans really have to make it heard that they don't want a stupid, fluffy kiddie movie. They DO hear what you guys say, and what you say CAN force changes. Remember, that horrid comedic Green Lantern movie starring Jack Black WAS going to be made, until they heard the fan backlash.
