I'd rather have one Flash movie that knocks my socks off than a whole bunch of Flash movies that make Catwoman look like it deserves an Academy Award.

Well, WB is not going to make a movie they don't feel will be successful... that's the bottom line. They are also, after Goyer, not going to get a director that they can't get under their control... so an experienced action director is OUT of the question. They need someone they can control here, not some comic fan telling them that Barry IS the Flash and that doing it XYZ is the "Right thing to do."

You sound like you're saying "Screw the box office, just make the movie that I want to see..." and I'm saying "Get real." We all want EVERY movie we watch to knock our socks off, but saying "WB, stop f'ing around and press the magic experienced action director button!" But if WB doesn't want dark and gritty, what are they going to do? Hire a SUCCESSFUL comedy director, with an emphasis on physical comedy, which is just action with a punch line. And he can still be controlled because he's 'out of his element.' WB wins.

I'm less interested in saying "What Flash should be," and more interested in trying to figure out what WB IS doing, which would be a better indicator of what Flash movie we are going to get, instead of preaching about what Flash movie I deserve.

Well let's see...going by reviews. Ghost Rider, Scary Movie 4, and Date Movie just to name a few. Cinderella Man and The Fountain were amazing films and just utterly bombed.

The Fountain was 50% at Rotten Tomatoes. Going by reviews it was mediocre at best.

I just want to see how they are going to make a interesting movie out of the Flash. His powers don't really translate very well to live action. I don't think 1 1/2 to 2 hours of the superspeed running you see on Smallville is going to be very interesting.

^The JL cartoon basically showed what else he can do aside from just running fast. Create wormholes, tornadoes, attack multiple enemies or just one enemy with hundreds of blows, etc. There is a lot of possibility. You just know if they choose Wally there will be a scene where he's carrying Linda Park and she sees what he sees when he's running at that speed.

Your problem is you seem to care more about the film making money than the film being good. Are you a WB exec? Are you gonna benefit at all from a box office smash, even if you personally cant stand to watch the thing???

What seems to be your problem is that you think that the motion picture industry is like a non profit organization and makes films just for the sake of making them. This is far from the truth and the real world that we know. Look, nobody does anything without getting something in return and that is reality. No, I am not an exec at WB. Although I might be a little older, I am just a normal fan like you, but the difference is I understand the motives of the studios and the fact that there are markets out there for them to cater to. The hardest part for them is how they are going to blend and market their productions to reach their particular markets so as not to lose money in the process. It doesn't matter if I benefit or not from the whole process, but sombody will and there will be some who will enjoy it as well no matter how bad you say it might be.

...The only benefit we could possibly get from it being a box office success is the prospect of a sequel, but would you want a sequel if the movie sucks? If this movie blows complete and utter chunks, but somehow the masses eat it up or rush to the thing on opening day not realizing how bad it's gonna be, are you gonna even want them to make another?

This seems like a strawman argument here. Who said that the supposed film sucked? So far it's only you and a small number of others. How do you know that it sucks? You don't, because they haven't made this film ("The Flash") yet. Also if the supposed film was a box office success there will obviously be a number of people, who liked it, demanding a sequel (maybe not you). It is going to be that market (depending on it's size) that the studios will be targeting in that case, and the opinion of you or me wouldn't make much of a difference then.

That's nice, but lets wait and see how the film turns out before we start drawing conculsions here. I think you have no basis to even assume that the film will be bad since nobody has said what the script will be like and they haven't even started casting yet.

We already had this discussion: they were crappy movies because I didn't like them. My enjoyment is all that matters. The fact that the general public (who also enjoy such stellar cinematic experiences as "White Chicks") enjoyed those terribly scripted, terribly acted crapfests doesn't phase me.

At least I could let my kids watch them (not like "The Hulk", "Batman Begins", or "Ghost Rider" -- too scary).

If you want to shelter your children, that's your business--though personally I see no reason to keep them from watching those films--but that has nothing to do with the quality of the films. If you want films your kids can watch, go watch films made for children. I don't understand this "I don't like it because it wasn't made for children" argument. That's kind of like saying "This peanut sucks because it isn't a tomato."

i'm not saying Levy is phenominal - i haven't seen the majority of his stuff - but i liked Cheaper by the Dozen and i thought The Pink Panther was one of the funniest films of 2006... that said, i don't know why in the world he would be tapped for something like Flash - doesn't seem like his style of movie, unless they're making it into an overt comedy - but then, i highly doubt that i'll be seeing this one before it appears on TV, so i don't guess it much matters to me... i think Levy would have potential to be a good filmmaker, though, if he could just stick to the right kinds of scripts for his style...

Hmm... while I admit I didn't quantify "a bunch" of money, those are all mediocre movies at worst. The statement was "utter and complete chunks..." I'm talking about movies that make, say, 15% or less on Rotten Tomatoes... "Utter and complete" failures cinematically. While those movies are mediocre, and some genuinely subpar, all of them have at least one or two strong points, some have several despite numerous shortcomings.

There are plenty of movies that you don't like that make a profit, but there simply aren't any big-numbers blockbusters that completely and utterly suck.

Honestly, when we can exchange "mediocre" for "utterly and completely blow chunks" I gotta wonder, is there any actual honesty or accountability in this conversation, or are we just free to say whatever makes us feel good, regardless of if it makes sense or not?

And I did enjoy Cheaper by the Dozen. I enjoy good family comedy and all that little kid cuteseyness that such movies thrive on. I think the goofy innocent storylines are great family fun, and so do many families. Now, if you are a single action junkie, of course you don't 'like' CBTD, but to say that it's a bad movie because it doesn't fit your taste shows a lack of vocabulary on your part...

Uhhh it is all opinion. Date Movie and Scary Movie 4 COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY BLEW CHUNKS to me and they made a huge profit at the box office. I am not overstating that I honestly feel that way I would put them on my worst movies ever made list. I saw Date Movie for free and still wanted a refund after sitting through it. And just for the record it had 7% on Rotten Tomatoes and made nearly 85 million worldwide.
