What are Sam Raimi's thoughts about Venom now?

I never really interpreted Brock's storyline as such...that he "screwed up his own life" is certainly a legitimate interpretation but I don't see why it's taken as gospel on these boards.

Because that's what happened. It's not open to interpretation. That is what happened. It's there in print. Spidey was not any kind of obstacle to Brock's career.

Brock made his own choices. His own decisions. Spider-Man wasn't stopping him from writing a proper news story.

At least in Spider-Man 3, Eddie has some kind of plausible reasons to hate Peter. Peter roughs him up, exposes him as a fraud to Jonah, and hits on the girl Eddie is infatuated with.

I do agree.
But, have you never blamed someone because it was easier than blaming yourself?

Honestly, no. If I do something wrong, I hold my hands up to it.

And even if I did, I certainly wouldn't do it in such circumstances in that I blame a man for ruining my life, when all he did was catch a killer.

The fact that Superman Returns made $220 million less domestically than Spider-Man tells me that Singer didn't give the fans what they wanted, and Raimi did. Superman Returns made less than Meet the Fockers and Rush Hour 2. It was a box office dissapointment. The box office tells me that the fans were not happy with SR.

So I guess Batman Begins didn't please the fans either? It made a little more than SR domestically, but was beaten out by 20 Million worldwide and it made just as much less than Spider-Man as SR did.

SR and BB made less money than Spider-Man because not only did Batman and Superman have their fair share of films unlike Spider-man (S4 and B&R being terrible films in their own rights) they were also slower paced, more character driven and less action oriented than Spider-Man. That is a huge piece of the puzzle. How else can we explain a movie like Dead Man's Chest making so much money (19.6 Million more than Spider-Man to be exact). Even then, if you want to look at box office numbers, if Raimi pleased the fans so much, how come Spider-Man 2 made 30 Million less than Spider-Man?

I'm done myself, you can respond however you like, we won't change each others opinions on things, nor should we have to.

I think Raimi is misquoted alot, he never said he didnt like Venom, he just said he wasnt a big fan of him because he came after the time Raimi read Spider-man comics, and thus he never had the chance to connect to his character.

Exactly, i've never seen a quote where Raimi says, "I hate Venom".

All i've ever seen and heard was that he wasn't to familiar with the character seeing as he grew up with the more classical villains like Ock, GG etc etc.

Whatever changes Raimi has made to Brock's backstory can only be for the better. One of the things that I dislike about comic book Venom is his lack of decent motivation for hating Spider-Man.

Raimi's Brock may be a version of the character I can actually dig, hopefully.

I agree with you about Brock's lame comic book origins, despite my acceptance of them. Brock's comic book origin only works on the basis of a lack of judgement caused by insanity, but still.... his motivations should be better than that.

Yeah, I did.

Spidey humiliated him in the Lizard incident. And, when Rhino robbed the space shuttle in the Alien costume episodes, and Brock lied and said Spidey did it, Spidey went to Jameson's office and told Jameson about the Rhino.

Of course, JJJ didn't believe him. But, John Jameson backed Spidey up. And Brock got fired over it.

So, there was some conflict and malice between Spidey and Brock prior to Brock becoming Venom. Spidey deliberately meddled in Brock's affairs and made him look a fool.

Anyway, I'm a sucker for archenemies that is supposed to be similar to the hero, only they're bad. But I'm not really crazy about Venom. Though I realized there's a great potential for a Symbiote-Venom trilogy of Spider-Man films similar to Harry's arc. Too bad they are just making Venom an after-thought here. I'm not fretting much, though...

Still, I don't like it that Eddie Brock is seemingly killed at the end, because even though Eddie here is portrayed as shockingly evil, if you think about it, it is still Peter's fault that he turned into Venom, 'cause what, he didn't think leaving the symbiote lying around the place after he's done with it won't go back and haunt him? That's just irresponsible for Peter. It's like misplacing a loaded gun when there's a crazy man around...

Raimi may well have changed his mind about Venom . . . but I wouldn't vouch for that on the simple fact that he has mentioned he likes him more now than before in one out of a thousand interviews. I mean Raimi has just directed a movie where Venom is the 'grand finale', so he isn't about to start bad-mouthing his bread and butter -- working against all the hype and publicity they are giving this film.

I with ya there. I love Venom, and I like Bizarro better than Superman, Kevin 11 better than Ben10, Red X better than Robin (Teen Titans CN show), Riku better than Sora (Kingdom Hearts), Vlad Plamius better than Danny Phantom (Danny Phantom on Nick) and etc... Man I love villians WAY MORE than superheroes. Love 'em.t:
