Yes, yes, I know the title kind of sounds anti-Raimi, but it's not.

There's a thread that asks the question is Avi Arad feeling stupid or anything, but what I don't get is why would he feel stupid? He wanted Sam Raimi to put the symbiote and also Venom in this movie because Venom has a huge fanbase, and so with doing that, I and a lot of people enjoyed the fact that Venom WAS in the movie, but sadly, was only in it for like seven-eight minutes. But, there has been some talk/rumors that an extended version of Spider-Man 3 will come out alongside the original:

According to The New York Times (and some other big-city newspapers), Sam Raimi will release a 170 minute cut of the film in theatres during the Fall for a limited time. This edition will also be released on DVD with the original. The 30 minutes of extra footage will not be pointless scenes either, Raimi has re-worked Venom into the film at a much earlier point. Raimi says that Venom's screentime will be more than doubled for the director's cut.

Now, hearing this, I am very glad that HOPEFULLY this might come true, because Venom will be in the movie for at least fifteen minutes now, and seeing how he was in one battle for seven minutes, that means he could POSSIBLY be involved in another fight, could be in one against Sandman, or at least, the final battle will be longer, and include scenes that were talked about in the novelization.

So, back to what the title says...is Sam Raimi possibly feeling stupid since he now wants/or is thinking about putting out an extended version with more Venom...and that will please me very much, plus other scenes not including Venom, i.e., more scenes with Marko's family, the doctor Flint has been trying to work with to cure his daughter, the infamous pre-Venom shot seen in the mirror before Peter takes the black suit off, and, back to Venom, the scene with the symbiote trying to bond with Peter BEFORE it dies.

I just hope this is true, I would love to see more of what Spider-Man 3 missed...and more of Venom will mean I wouldn't care if Venom dies and I wouldn't care if Carnage ever shows up.

But, in regards to Avi Arad, I thank him for pushing in and making Raimi put Venom and the symbiote in the movie because without Arad's involvement, Spider-Man 3's villains would have just been Sandman and the Vulture.

P.S. it posted the same thread twice, so mind the other please.

Why would he feel stupid? Do you know how much money the man has made just by -announcing- SM3 was going to be made?

He has no reason to feel anything but -rich-.

Rami should done that from the beginning.I would have waited longer to see the movie then get the product i got.

He's -rich- because of Venom.

so you're saying that if Venom wasn't in the movie...it wouldn't be making this kind of money?

cause if you're saying that..than the title of this thread should look something like this:

"Is XXTBWCXX feeling stupid now?"

This will not delete "Dancer in the dork"... he must cut most of symbionte-peter part.

This movie would've done well Venom or not. The only reason why Spidey 2 didn't break records was because it was released on a Wednesday. But it is interesting to see that they're relaesing an extended cut ot theaters and on a single DVD. I hope by this they mean you can watch both cuts in their entirety.

It's very good news, thx... 30 min.!!! Yeah...

No, I'm not feeling stupid because I'm spreading the word about a rumored extended version...and a movie with Vulture, I wouldn't have even seen it...so, he is rich because of how Venom made the movie better.

Uhm... didn't Spider-Man 1 & 2 already make him rich enough? Spider-Man 3 was a save deal, whether Venom would've been in it or not. With Venom he's just earning a few bucks extra.

Guys the article from the new york times was never confirmed to be true. The guy that originally posted it at IMDb never provided any proof and he never posted about it again after making the topic so please dont get your hopes up over this 30 minute extended cut.

...you're writing yourself in circles here buddy.

so you are saying that you saying that "Venom being in the movies is whats selling tickets" isn't actually you saying that but what you really meant was Raimi is rich because of how many people wouldn't have seen the movie if the Vulture was in it, thus putting Venom in the movie has made him rich...so you are saying that "Venom being in the movies is whats selling tickets"

so allow me to repeat and critique myself:

Is Raimi feeling stupid now?

I think what happened to Raimi could be somehow related to a musician. When you are working so hard into something, you lost some kind of 'objectivity'. A musician listens to the album SO many times, that something could be lost in the meantime, changing things, songs, instruments, editing, you name it. What you get is some kind of 'workaholic' feel.

I think this is what happened to Sam, and lost the objectivity of the entire film, not able to focus into any of the stories. So, perhaps now after seeing the movie again with a "distance" to all the hard work, he is watching the same movie we saw, full of flaws. I'm sure we'll be getting his own opinion of the movie after some time.

D!

30 extra minutes would be sick. If this is true, and it's being announced this early, it means that there must have been some serious last-minute trimming that Raimi isn't happy with. The beginning and end could definitely use a little more breathing room.

No doubt Sam went into the workaholic zone during this one, but I think that even after that had it's effect on the final cut, the studio ended up cutting it even more.

1) You're a damned liar. If Spider-Man 3 had The SPOT in it you would have STILL gone and saw it.

2) He's rich because of how he is the director of the largest movie franchise since Star Wars , Lord of The Rings and The Matrix. Not because of -Venom-. That's just ignorant to say.

Actually, I'm not buddy...I'm just saying, if Spider-Man 3 had only Sandman and Vulture, which would be the lamest idea since Poison Ivy and Mr. Freeze, and with Venom being in the climax, that made the movie so much better as it was.

The only reason I would feel stupid is when I spent money to see a two hour movie and only got to see Venom in seven minutes when I thought he would be in it for at least fifteen minutes.

So, the only reason I'm going in "circles" is because I'm just stating what I believe and that is Venom helped Spider-Man 3 get some extra bucks...if people were to see a trailer with just a flying green dude instead of a menacing villain like Venom, Spider-Man 3 wouldn't have broken any records as it did.

No, I'm not a damned liar...Vulture is gay and the Spot is gay...if you have a lame-ass villain in a Spidey movie, that will be freaking stupid...that's like Batman and Robin and Superman III and IV.

I haven't been on the IMDB boards, so I don't know the origin of this whole director's cut story, but has anyone heard any substantial evidence that backs this up?

I mean, from the get-go, we knew (or at least, had a lot of credible rumors floating around) saying that Venom would be in the movie for a relatively short amount of time. I can't imagine what cut would have Venom "much earlier" in the movie, if it seems that the script already had him coming just before the battle royale.

Sorry, I'm having a really difficult time understanding your question; it's hard to read super long sentences like that. Why would he feel dumb? Because the fans like Venom more than he?

Regardless though, seeing all those deleted scenes would be pretty cool.

Yet Spider-Man broke records instantaneously?

Do you know that Venom wasn't even hinted at until 3 weeks before release? Did you know that the general public do not have a clue about Venom thanks to the Serial comics released in big city News Papers being based on his more classic villains?

Spider-Man is Spider-Man. Like it or not, this movie would have been Major regardless of Venom.

Raimi has no reason to feel stupid. He's probably laughing and using $100 bills to wipe his ass! lol

I can't speak from experience, but I think its hard for a filmmaker to feel stupid when your movie has Spiderman 3's numbers. If the film tanked, he would have felt realllly stupid.

At the end of the day, which copy of the Lord of the Rings do we all own? Theatrical or Extended? It's almost as if the Theatrical versions are going to become edited capitalistic cuts.
