How so According to Obi-Wan in Episode III ["The Chosen One"] was to

Obi-Wan : It was said that you would destroy the Sith, not join them. You were to bring balance to the force, not leave it in darkness.

Based on this statement alone it proves Luke is The Chosen One .

but if you hink bout it, were not realy off topic. we already established that any similiarities between superman and spider-man are the result of traditional archetype characters common in all "hero" myths.

so to the extent weere discussing the role of the "hero" and his purposes and destiny, with luke, the same parallels can be made with regard to spidey and supes.

To me Luke was the one who actually destroyed the Sith as well as brought peace and freedom to the galaxy. He destroyed Darth Vader, and through Anakin, he destroyed Palpatine. If it hadn't been for Luke Palpatine would have never been destroyed, and neither would Vader. I think Luke fulfilled the prophecy by bringing Anakin back to the light, which led to Palpatine being killed. I don't disagree that it was by Anakin's hand that Palpatine died, but I think overall credit goes to Luke. It was his presence and him getting through to Anakin that fulfilled the prophecy in my opinion.

And In The EU, Luke restored The Jedi Order, as well as ending what was left of The Empire control in the galaxy for Good .

But without Anakin, Luke would not exist. So you could still say that Anakin brought balance to the force through his off spring.

That being siad I never got how the force was "balanced" when all of the bad guys were dead? Doesnt "balance" infer that both sides would be equal?

The Return of the Jedi was great!

I would rather watch a two hour toy commercial than a two and a half hour mutated disney movie that was The Phantom Menace.

Yeah, like Kaboom mentioned, Anakin did indeed bring balance to the force when he helped the Emperor, hunt down and kill the Jedi Knights. After that, there were only two on each side. Obi-Wan/Yoda and Vader/The Emperor, thus balanced was restored. Anakin was indeed the chosen one. Remember in Episode III when Yoda said, "The prophecy could have been misread". They all had it wrong and Anakin did fulfill his destiny when he fell to the dark side.


Man, we've really gone off topic in this thread, but I can't help joining in on a good Star Wars debate.

Anakin is redeemed by the love of his Son Luke. But it's Luke who's the real Hero of the saga . He Destoryed Vader and brought back Anakin who destoryed Sidious .

Jedi was the worst of the original trilogy. The whole Endor thing with the Ewoks was lame. They served no purpose other than for Lucas to sell dolls. He basically admitted that he had planned originally to do that whole Endor thing on Kashyyk with the Wookiees but the marketers didnt think a million Chewie's would sell, which was ridiculous considering in the early 80's he was insanely popular.

If your young and that s the first one you ever saw in the theaters I can see how you might think it was cool, but it was no where near as cool as the first 2.

Luke had nothing to do with the prophecy. Like I mentioned earlier, Yoda said the prophecy could have been misread, and it was. The prophecy of the Chosen One WAS to destroy the Jedi Knights (and leave only two surviving members to balance the Sith's numbers) and bring balance to the Force, which Anakin did. Your mistaking "Bring balance to the Force" with "Bring peace to the galaxy". See what I'm getting at?
