what if nightcrawler had joined the AVENGERS instead of the x-men?

What if __ X-Man Never Existed?

I think it'd be interesting to take any one random X-Man, erase them from existence, and see how that'll affect the entire course of X-Men history.

What If Spider-Man stayed Pro-Reg

Peter confronts Tony with his doubts and thoughts, and Tony promises to have Clor dismantled. Following through, Tony explained that he needed the power of a god in a face people could believe in. the Secret Avengers had Hercules, a hero of epic literature. the Mighty Avengers may have had Ares, but no one liked him or trusted him. Peter promises to look into the problem and analyzes the samples of Thor's DNA, Ares' DNA, and even Hercules' DNA (the last was the easist to obtain). That was when Peter found it... the genetic markers of a god. from it they managed to create several animal gods (injecting the markers into animals).

Finally Peter confirmed that the serum was ready to test on humans. Tony said he didn't want a fleet of gods, he couldn't trust that many people. He wanted someone he could trust with that kind of power, someone who would act more responsibly because of the power he possessed. Tony gave Peter a significant look. After talking it over with MJ, Peter agreed to the process.

After he was injected he started to convulse, his vitals going crazy. eventually it looked like he had died on the table. then his eyes opened with light pouring out of them the restraints snapped and Peter floated into the air and was surrounded by a cocoon of light. an hour or so later he emerged. the lenses, top, and and lower part of his mask gone so that his hair, his chin and mouth, and eyes were visible. his eyes were pouring light at first, his hair was now whispy and white. the waldoes were gone from the back of his costume, in their place was a cape made of long flowing strands of webbing.

His strength was magnified to where he could easily fight against hercules, his Spider-Sense could now give him clear visions of possible futures, he could form web-constructs at will that would work in any way he wished. he could fly, and he could fire bursts of energy (the same radioactive energy that was responsible for the spider). Gone was Spider-Man... now stood Spider-God (Not Peter's choice of codename)

What if OMD never happened?

I actually had an idea for that too. Death intervenes, bringing Aunt May's spirit to stop Peter and MJ from making the fateful decision. With the encouragement of Aunt May, Peter and MJ told Mephisto "No". After being reprimanded by Death (for interfering in her balliwick) Mephisto leaves. Death leaves Peter with some parting advise "What is your calling". Peter considers and realizes no profession has felt as right to him as teaching.

He starts by finding out the Runaways are in town and he inturrupts their meeting with Fisk. He leads them away from fisks path and toward a new Hostel, with the girl from Strazinsky's run on ASM that was homeless and still attended Peter's classes. there Peter teaches classes and the whole group takes on a new dynamic. Peter enjoys teaching and finds a whole new dimension of teaching with meta-human students.

It leads to Civil War II, as Peter assembles an Anti-Initiative that brings back some bad memories as he takes in a couple of Slingers and his last living clone.

What if Bob, Agent of Hydra took over the world?

Everyone on Earth would have a really good dental plan.

At first I read that as Blob, Agent of Hydra. That would be a VERY interesting What If. :wow:

We need more ideas from Zoken his stories always rock!

What if aunt may had stayed dead before when she had the perfect death? There would be no more OMD and things would be very different.

A sort of What If idea:
What if, because of Mephisto, not only did everyone forget [BLACKOUT]who Peter was (and that he revealed himself as Spider-Man)[/BLACKOUT]
But also undid everything that happened because of someone finding out about his secret?

So no only would Jameson forget Peter is Spider-Man, Norman Osborne would forget. And not only that, but Gwen would not be dead. Harry would also have never become the Green Goblin, perhaps.
We would finally get to see what Peter's life might have been like if Gwen had never died.
(Perhaps this idea, or some form of it, have already been done.)

I'll try to think up a better story later

Here are some questions?
Did they ever do a What if Uncle Ben had never died story?
Did they ever do a What if Peter's Spy parents had lived?
Did they ever do a What if Captain Stacey had lived?

"Greetings, I am the Watcher. For what would seem like an Eternity I, and my alien race, have used our vast powers and intelligence to monitor every possible reality. But today we we ask the question, What If the Watchers stopped Watching?"
What if the Watchers, all the Watchers, decided to not sit back and watch anymore?
The Watchers have seen enough, their mission was to watch and record but not interfere.
Idea 1) That wasn't their whole mission. Their mission was to watch and wait till the time was right.
The Watchers decide now is the time to strike. Each alternate reality has at least one Watcher, some have more. Can each reality stop them?
Idea 2) Earth's Watcher has had enough. Things are spinning out of control, its one cataclysmic event after another. Earth's Watcher rallies together the other Watchers and they decide to use their vast power and intelligence to do more than just watch and record. They decide to become the Guardians of Reality, not just the regular MU reality but every reality. They begin to remake the realities.
But against beings of such extreme power, can the Heroes and Villains of the Marvel Universes stop them?

What If... Max Line

What If Reed was the only survivor of the Fantastic Four's rocket?

He spends some time in prison, but given his useful ness as a national security asset (world's smartest freakin' man) he is released. He is used as a consultant on a number of cases. Suddenly Dr. Doom shows up looking to lay the ever loving smack down on Reed. Doom rips through all the soldiers meant to protect Reed, and finally they stand face to face. The battle seems evenly matched at first, Doom's armor matching Reed's powers, but soon their minds come into play and Reed gets annoyed. Not only does he slam Doom into the ground, stripped of his armor, but also reprimands him for putting his own screw ups on other people. Reed hurls Doom out of the compound.

A week later, Doom, attempting to repair and rebuild his armor is shocked to be visited by Reed Richards. Reed volunteers to help Victor fix the dimensional portal that Victor blamed him for fouling up. They fix it, and after a month they venture into the hell dimension where Doom's mother is kept. when mephisto attempts to interfere, Victor prepares a spell, but Reed beats him to it binding Mephisto in a set of chains that are equal parts science and sorcery. Victor looks at Reed in shock, but Reed simply replies "Do you really think I'd be stupid enough to go into a situation unprepared again?"

Doom's mother's soul goes to purgatory and Doom plans to move on. He goes to Reed and talks about how the nation fears him. Reed agrees. He's been sensing it coming on for a while. his government contacts taking his advice less and less seriously. Reed knows it's just a matter of time before they make a lethal error... just like he did. Victor suggests they build a new world, a world where intelligence, not brute force or charisma rules. A world where the poorest citizen recieves the same protection as the ruling class. When Reed sneers at the idea of a socialism, Victor asks how well capitalism is working in the world. Reed takes another week to think. He agrees with Doom, the world needs to be fixed. They agree to start in Doom's homeland. They set up the small Soverignty of Latveria, with Reed and Victor as the Equal Rulers. for years they push forward the boundries of science, push backwards the social inequities, and expand their nation as others lay down their governement for the benefits that Latveria can give them.

Not all is well though, Doom is jealous. Richards is recieving the most attention, the most laud (at least as far as Victor saw things). This was unacceptable. Reed was content to rule side by side with Victor, whom he'd come to regard as a brother. Together they had opened up trade with Wakanda, and formed tenuous alliances with Genosha. Wundagore lay within their borders, and the High Evolutionary barely noticed this. Finally, Victor attempted to frame Reed for abuse of power and denounce him. Reed, with cold fury, told Victor that he shouldn't have become greedy. That in their life times they could ahve been the equal rulers of all Europe in the Latverian Coallition. Reed told Doom to renounce his statement and Reed would forget it happened. Doom attacked. Reed didn't even flinch. He reshapped his vocal cords, and in Doom's voice, gave the selfdestruct codes for Doom's armor. Doom had never told Reed that he had installed this, or what the code was. "You were as a brother to me," Reed regarded coldly, sadly, "If I know anything, it's you." An explosion of fire, metal, magic and gore ends Victor Von Doom.

What if Mr. Immortal had not formed the GLA?

Craig Hollis, rather than being encouraged by what appears to be a super human ability, becomes despondant, desiring his own death even more than before. he takes on the identity of Mr. Immortal and goes to New York to pose as a Super-Villain. However, no matter when happense to him, he still remains alive. Many heroes catch on to his charade and begin to ignore him, knowing it isn't in him to kill a human being. The punisher drops him down an elevator shaft. (yes I stole that from Watchmen). Eventually he attracts the attention of the Human Torch when he walks into the Baxter Building's lobby, puts a gun to his head, and kills himself in front of the blazing hero. Johnny is freaked, but even more so when Craig gets up moments later.

Johnny takes Craig to Mr. Fantastic, who despite a wide battery of tests can't find anything odd about Mr. Immortal except that he gets better after he dies. after asking around, they take Mr. I to Dr. Strange. and Dr. Strange tries to contact the Vishanti regarding the odd young man, but Craig is immediately succed into a strange vortex where he stands ont he same level as many other cosmic beings. In fact, he stands in front of a woman in black in a tattered cloak, her comely body bruised and exposed. "N-n-n-no..." she weeps defiantly.

Craig tries to understand the situation, and then see's the woman's face is that of a skull. This is Death... who percieves his actions as attempts to force himself upon her. This then Leads Craig to a greateer appreciation for his place in the cosmos, especially after he saves Death from the would be ravashings of Thanos, and catches the eye of Infinity.

That's around what JMS's original idea for OMD was going to be, I believe. He essentially wanted to start Spidey from zero, instead of from, say, two

If that was down in a manner like, Peter wakes up and suddenly he is married to Gwen Stacey, Harry is alive, no one knows he is Spider-Man.
Peter maybe reacts to it like its a dream, can't be real.
Maybe if it was seeming like it couldn't last anyway, maybe fans would respond better to it. (I don't know, I know I am not crazy for it, but maybe others are.)

Well, in the JMS thing I don't think they had him and Gwen married. It was just kind of a like a near total reboot, except they weren't going to be High School kids or anything. I don't know, personally I know would've been raving mad if they would have done that lol. I hate to defend Joey Q and Co., but there were definitely the lesser of two evils when it came to OMD ideas imo

What if __ X-Man Never Existed?

I think it'd be interesting to take any one random X-Man, erase them from existence, and see how that'll affect the entire course of X-Men history.
Ooh, nice one.

I wouldn't mind reading that at all. TONS of possibilities there.

I would enjoy seeing more followup issues of what ifs. Some of the concepts are just too cool not to run a bit more with and try and force into a single issue. A few stories I'd love to see part two's of:

What if Magneto joined the X-Men (in the first issue Mags decides NOT to be a *****e and emulate the nazi's and instead forms the X-Men with Xavier)

What if Flash Thompson became Spider-Man (the first issue had flash as spider-man, pete saves otto octavius, spider-man becomes a criminal, pete uses ottotech to make a robo spider suit and beat him)

What if Doctor Doom became the thing? (first issue doom befriends richards, pushes out ben grim, becomes the thing, ben becomes the hulk and a new ff is born)

And I'll throw one of my own ideas out there: What if Norman Osborn adopted Peter Parker? After pete lets the burgler go, he goes to the warehouse where harry osborn was getting high away from prying eyes. Harry is killed by the burgler as well. Norman and pete are brought together by the tragedy with pete eventually confessing. Norman see's pete as avenging his son, and because of the Parker money situation brings him and May into his home. Eventually pete and may, being who they are, make him a better man and he ends up helping Spider-Man (ala bruce wayne in Batman Beyond) with tech, resources and such. You'd end with norman killing eddie brock after he tries to kill his "son".

What If:
Sabertooth, Victor Creed, was really Wolverine's Father?
I read that they had been setting him up to be Logan's real father in the beginning. Thats why Sabertooth could always beat him, and why he always called him Runt, and why he always knew where he was.

What if Sabertooth was revealed to be Logan's real father?

Is this thread discussing strictly Marvel titles or other publishers with What Ifs can be discussed here, too? There's a number of DC/Marvel crossed WI concepts I'd like to see.

I think as long as it has a Marvel crossover, since this is a Marvel thread.

There should be a DC version of this thread though, Whats DC's version of What If?
"Elseworlds"

Someone should make an Elseworlds Thread in the DC forum.

DC and Marvel did a couple of Batman/Punisher crossovers. I'd really like to see a What If or a Punisher Kills The Marvel Universe type of storyline where Frank is operating in Gotham City and hunting down all of Batman's villains. Although I'd also love to see a larger-scale BVP crossover than the two that were done years ago.

What if susan storm left reed for namor?
