What If's You'd like to read

What if Silver Surfer never originally betrayed Galactus?

What ifs:

What if the gamma radiation didn't turn Bruce Banner into the Hulk, but instead turned him into a Gamma powered adventure hero like Superman?
What if, instead of the Hulk, Banner became Gamma Man? (Or a cooler name)

What If... The Hulk was Gamma-Man

after the blast, Dr. Banner was left unconsious. After his first attack, The army assigned a new officer to recapture Banner, deeming Ross as "too close to the matter" and "biased". the selected officer was an ambitious man interested in finding the next form of living weaons: Henry Gyrich. He convinces Banner to come in peacefully by promising to allow him the resources needed to cure him. In actuality he provides Banner with a large assortment of distractions, including bringing in Betty Ross. He respun Hulk's image, and kept him surrounded by handlers. The Avengers formed with the Abomination, Blonski's foul temper made him easier to manipulate than Banner and the Hulk's handlers. The Avengers did eventually take the Gamma-Man onto their team, but constant in fighting between Gamma-Man and Abomination made them less than effective.

What If... The Incredible Hunk

Robert Bruce Banner was not abused as a child, but as a bright child he was never very popular, and became introverted and shy. He still managed to rise through the ranks as a scientist and got onto the Gamma project. at the last moment of the count down Bobby Banner made what his coworkers called the loudest sound of his life: a shout regarding the boy on the testing range.

Boby ran out, surprising everyone, and saved the young man, but not before being dosed with Gamma Rays himself. When he woke up he was seven feet tall, thickly muscled, but not the overly muscled monster than we know as the Hulk. Banner was a green adonis. he found, however, that he could change back and forth between the two, so he reverted before the army could find the other being.

He felt more confident in his green form. especially when Betty Ross, the General's daughter that had caught his eye, nicknamed his green form "The Hunk". His strength increased with anger and adrenaline. (Basically it's a Hulk that's more like male She-Hulk). The Hunk became a standard member of the Avengers.

I like those two Hulk ideas.
I would love to see character designs of them...
maybe i'll do some.

In X-Men #8 The X-Men battle Unus the Untouchable,
[BLACKOUT]Hank McCoy, the Beast, left the team fed up with trying to help humans who would just as soon kill him after he saved a child. He became a wrestler, a place where his powers wouldn't draw attention. That is where he met Unus. Unus tries to join Magneto's Brotherhood by trying to defeat the X-Men. Beast creates a machine to increase Unus' powers top the point where he cannot touch anything, even food.[/BLACKOUT]
This brought up a few What If ideas:
What If Beast had never returned to the X-Men?
Maybe he joined Magneto's Brotherhood, or Maybe he stuck to being a wrestler and met up with Spider-Man man. Maybe Peter taught him about responsibility and the two became a super duo. Spider-Man and the Beast.

Beast and Peter Parker as Wrestlers:

What if Beast used his power increasing device to increase all the X-Men's powers?
How would they look? What powers would they have? Would this lead to the blue Beast? Cyclops not being able to control his optic blasts? Ice Man freezing anything he touches? Jean Grey becoming as powerful as Xavier or Apocalypse, becoming the Phoenix? Or would they become even more powerful and able to control all these new powers?

What if Magneto had gotten ahold of Hank's Power altering device? Maybe Beast joined Magneto and invented the machine, and turned Magneto, as well as the Brotherhood and himself, into even more powerful mutants.

In Joss Wheden's (I know I spelled it wrong) run on Astonishing X-men, Hank wanted to take the cure. Wolverine stopped him and convinced him not to because it would look bad that one of the original X-Men didn't want to be a mutant anymore.
But
What if Hank McCoy took the cure and wasn't a mutant anymore?
Hank takes the cure, but not only looses his Beastly powers but his super intellegence as well. Now Hank must cope with being an average man with average intellegence. (like Flowers for Aldjernon but in reverse.) We not only see Hank cope with not being a superhero anymore, but also cope with things like reading a book.
Eventually Hank does return to the X-Men, trying to help in anyway he can. Showing that even though he is human now he still is an X-man and that humanity should work together. maybe eventually he invents a chemical to return mutant powers.

What If... Beast Never returned to the X-Men

Beast becomes a wrestler and meets up with a fresh Peter Parker. Peter recognizes the fact that Hank is enhanced and their high IQ's cause an instant friendship. Hank and Peter keep eachother's secrets. When Peter's uncle dies and Peter learns his hard lesson, Hank is doubtful at first, he then reveals his inner crisis: He fears humans. Peter nodds and tells him that everyone is afraid, Peter's afraid. Only fools are fearless. Brave is when you act in spite of fear. Hank and Peter stick together, but Peter's cover is soon blown when Aunt May recognizes the abilites of "The Sweet McCoy boy" that her Peter hangs out with. The X-men take Peter and Hank in. The power increasing do-hickey is never invented.

What if... The X-Gods?

Beast was not the first test subject of his invention. Scott was. Scott's lanky frame was replaced by a more muscular one that had an odd sheen to it. His chestnut hair turned white, and he gained control of his optic-blast (Yes this is an allusion to the XM:E show). Upon seeing how well it worked on Scott, it was used on Bobby and Warren. The results were not as desireable. Bobby turned into organic ice completely and was unable to revert back. He was, however, able to melt, vaporize, and reform at will. Warren's body became slimmer, his shoulders sloped downward more, his face elongated and he developed a plume on the back of his head that stood out at an angle. His hands and feet became talons. His flying improved and he found he had developed a healing factor.

Jean did not try it, nor did Hank. They remained as they were. However in the next generation Both Nightcrawler and Storm attempted it. Nightcrawler could not only teleport anywhere he had ever been (even off world), but he developed a form of clair voyance where he could sence these places and movement in them. He could teleport things he was not touching. His trade off was that the portal he now carried was so strong, he could not be seen at all. he was but a darkspot in people's vision. Storm wsa driven mad by her power and had to be put down.

I have 4 what if's all basedd around the X-men:

What if logan decided not to be given adamantium?
What if proffesor x was not disabled?
What if Cyclops could still control his blasts?
What if proffesor x died in WW2?

What if proffesor x died in WW2?

1 logan had NO CHOICE about the adamantium as he was kidnapped and used as a guinnia pig
2 the prof. would have been in the field himself more
3 he might have left the x-men for the avengers
the x-men mightnopt have had an alternative to magneto's brotherhood

But now would Prof. X have made the world, or universe, different by being more active in the field? Maybe he wouldn't have formed the X-Men, and put others in danger? Maybe he and Magneto would have formed a team themselves.

If Prof. X had died in WWII he wouldn't have joined the Avengers, but the X-Men might have been welcomed by Magneto. Maybe the X-men would have joined other groups, like the Avengers.

I love your ideas, I love this one especially.
This one makes me want to draw a cover for it. Spider-Man and the Beast could have been the greatest team up since Blue Beetle and Booster Gold.

I also want to draw Gamma Man, and the Hunk.

What if Xman Nate was still around?

What if Peter Parker, instead of Ben Reilly, died fighting the Green Goblin?

Show how history would be different with Ben as Spidey, such as his involvement in the Civil War. I feel like Ben would be with the resistance from the beginning.

What if Ben Reilly heard what happened in OMD showed up telling peter he wasn't worthy killed him and took his place and started pursuing MJ.

What If... Peter Re-Registered.
Peter joined with the resistance halfway through the war. What if, at the end of the war, spider-man re-registered. I think Tony would have put him in charge of Camp Hammond over Hank, which would, eventually, through a monkey wrench into everyone's plans. He won't cover up MVP's death, which would pre-empt the KIA crap, which keeps the Counter-Initiative from actually breaking away (especially since Peter banned Gauntlet from using the New Warriors as a label for poor performance). The Initiative becomes more effective. during WWH Peter makes sure that the Initiative kids stay in their barracks (being still young enough to remember how a teenager thinks). Cloud 9 developes her powers further (Peter manages to stabilize the ship that Hank decided to crash, while Cloud 9 keeps it aloft with her powers). However, during the SI, Peter turns out to be a Skrull. At the end of SI he comes out of the ship with everyone else... AND BEN REILLY

What If Spider-Man stayed Pro-Reg

Peter confronts Tony with his doubts and thoughts, and Tony promises to have Clor dismantled. Following through, Tony explained that he needed the power of a god in a face people could believe in. the Secret Avengers had Hercules, a hero of epic literature. the Mighty Avengers may have had Ares, but no one liked him or trusted him. Peter promises to look into the problem and analyzes the samples of Thor's DNA, Ares' DNA, and even Hercules' DNA (the last was the easist to obtain). That was when Peter found it... the genetic markers of a god. from it they managed to create several animal gods (injecting the markers into animals).

Finally Peter confirmed that the serum was ready to test on humans. Tony said he didn't want a fleet of gods, he couldn't trust that many people. He wanted someone he could trust with that kind of power, someone who would act more responsibly because of the power he possessed. Tony gave Peter a significant look. After talking it over with MJ, Peter agreed to the process.

After he was injected he started to convulse, his vitals going crazy. eventually it looked like he had died on the table. then his eyes opened with light pouring out of them the restraints snapped and Peter floated into the air and was surrounded by a cocoon of light. an hour or so later he emerged. the lenses, top, and and lower part of his mask gone so that his hair, his chin and mouth, and eyes were visible. his eyes were pouring light at first, his hair was now whispy and white. the waldoes were gone from the back of his costume, in their place was a cape made of long flowing strands of webbing.

His strength was magnified to where he could easily fight against hercules, his Spider-Sense could now give him clear visions of possible futures, he could form web-constructs at will that would work in any way he wished. he could fly, and he could fire bursts of energy (the same radioactive energy that was responsible for the spider). Gone was Spider-Man... now stood Spider-God (Not Peter's choice of codename)

Spider-Man spent the Hour in his light cocoon facing trials. The other Gods were somewhat affronted that a human had made themselves a God, so they challenged his right. He had to face a challenge from each pantheon.

First time was folded so he could face the Norse Pantheon, where he sort of fought Heimdal. Since both have limited precognition (Peter's recently expanded), physically they didn't move, but they launched through all the scenarios possible in a five minute staring contest. when they emerged, Heimdal announced Peter would have beaten him 5 out of 8.

They then brought him back to the present and he faced the united asian pantheons. He faced Sun Wukong (monkey-King) in a fight. Because the monkey king is a god of mischief and trickery (thus Chaos), Peter's precognition doesn't work against him. So Peter had to fight it out the old fashioned way. Difficult against a shapeshifter and martial artist. Peter eventually managed to work a strategy to heard the Monkey King exactly how Peter wanted. then, Peter snatched stray web strand and tugged it, closing the trap he'd laid.

in the american pantheons (aztec, incan, mayan, and native american), he face Huixipotl, an Aztec war god. the War god had Peter on the defensive until the War god took a lesser goddess hostage to get Peter to fight directly. Peter not only won, but the war god was turned over to the other gods for discipline.

In the Greco-Roman pantheon he faced an actual challenge: Judging the worth in eggs. His opponent: Hades. Peter sorted more eggs than Hades did, but he set aside a third pile and wound up losing by one because of it. When he explained that the third pile were eggs that were not spoiled, but were "Unfit for Mt. Olympus. I recomend they be given to Gods elsewere... like Tartarus." Hades, accepting the bribe passed Peter. Zeus, pleased with Peter's diplomacy, allowed the judgement to stand.

In the Celtic pantheon he had to face the Morrigain. They demanded to know how a singular human can do what it takes many Gods multiple identities to do. (Three in ones like Morrigain or the Norns or the Fates). Peter explained that not only did he know what it was to share his mind (symbiote), and his identity (clones), but he knew what it was to divide his life (spider-man, peter parker). The Morrigaine passed him and he went to his final challenge.

The african dieties, inlcuding egyption and middle-eastern, he was faced with none-other than anazi himself. It was a race to climbe anazi's web to heaven. Peter started well, but was set behind when Anazi cut a strand he was on. Peter threw out an elastic line and turned it into an advantage. He ahd to stop and rescue people tied up in the web along the way, though they turned out to be an illusion. Peter eventually manages to win the race (Which anazi later informs him he let him win because he passed the tests along the way). Peter is accepted as a God... and that is when he bursts from the light cocoon.

Xavier believed that humans and mutants could live together in peace. Magneto believed the other side, that mutants and humans could never live in peace and that humans would always fear and hate mutants.
Many humans thought that mutants were dangerous, and Magneto sort of proved them right by his terrorist actions.
What if Magneto had chosen Xavier's path instead? What if Magneto chose to try and make peace between humans and mutants? Would there have been less hatred between humans and mutants? Would Xavier's mission had been that much easier? Or would things had been just as hard or perhaps harder?

What if? Avengers' Rehabilitation:
Don't really have much of a story, except for the team being made of Wonder Man (created by Zemo to destroy the Avengers), Vision (created by Ultron to destroy the Avengers), Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver (children of Magneto, former Brotherhood of Evil Mutants members), Hawkeye (I think he used to be a criminal in a circus), Black Widow (I think she used to work with Hawkeye too), and maybe a few more former villains.
The Avengers creates a rehabilitation for super villains, a way to turn them into heroes and maybe stop their criminal actions, turn their life around. The team is run by former criminals who are now some of Earth's greatest heroes. They feel its their duty to help other criminals turn their lives around.

Careful spoiler below about Claremont's X-Men from 1991:
In Chris Claremont's and Jim Lee's three issue run on the X-Men (back in 1991) Magneto found out that Moira McTaggert had genetically tampered with his brain to try and protect it from his mutant powers, which I guess were also destroying it. But at the same time she tried to alter his mind so that he would be good. He captured Moira and forced her to do the same thing to the X-Men, so that they would obey him unquestioningly. It seemed to work, Cyclops' team composed of Wolverine, Psylock, Beast, Rogue, and Gambit, had been turned into followers of Magneto.
It was revealed that the first time they used their powers their minds returned to normal, as did Magneto all those years ago. So essentially she did nothing to his brain, although she did try.
What if the mind altering had worked? What if the X-Men fallowed Magneto, and couldn't be saved?
What if Moira McTaggert Destroyed the X-Men?

What if volume 3 #1.

2-1.jpg

In Avengers #2 Hulk is replaced by the evil Space Phantom,
who sneaks onto the team and puts the Hulk in Limbo
in an effort to destroy the Avengers from the inside.

3156860299_3c6ded8d14_o.jpg

Whenever the Space Phantom takes someones body they disappear to Limbo.
[blackout]What ends up happening in the story is the Space Phantom is revealed, and switches from
Avenger to Avenger until he is stopped and sent to Limbo himself.[/blackout]
But What if the Space Phantom liked being an Avenger?
Instead of trying to destroy the Avengers the Space Phantom
decides to stick around and help them, staying hidden as the Hulk.
As the Hulk the Space Phantom has all the Hulks powers.
He stays around and helps them on many adventures,
finding Captain America, fighting Namor, battling the Masters of Evil,
bringing Wonder Man onto the team, even fighting Ultron.
Space Phantom, as the Hulk, was one of the most heroic Avengers.
It isn't until years later that Hulk escapes Limbo, aided by Belasco.
The second the real Hulk leaves Limbo, since two bodies can't
occupy the same space, the Space Phantom returns to his normal form
to the shock of his fellow Avengers who think they are under attack.
But the Avengers don't have time to deal with the Space Phantom
because at that moment Hulk and his new partner Belasco attack.
MYTHOS002_sketches-1.jpg
belascob.jpg

The Avengers will stop the Hulk, madder than ever, and Belasco
and then deal with the Space Phantom. The whole team does their
best to fend of the attack, but it is the Space Phantom who stops the
Hulk and Belasco and sends the back to Limbo... for the time being.
Captain America urges everyone to first hear the Space Phantom out,
before doing anything drastic. The Space Phantom explains everything,
his original purpose, how he changed his mind, his being the Hulk all
these years, everything. In the end the Avengers reluctantly forgive
him, but some will never fully trust him again.
Now the Space Phantom is a permanent member of the Avengers, no
longer hiding as the Hulk, and uses his powers to help mankind.

What If... The Death of Peter Parker

In this new world, one of Peter's oldest enemies is among the most powerful men in the world. Osborne, controlled by old psychotic urges directs his forces at Spider-Man, making him the face of Unregistered super-humans. Osborne even goes so far as to have peter declared a Super-Villain by law in any publication listing Heroes and Villains (comics, on-line lists, and Marvel Trading Cards). When he feels the time is right, he launches a full campaign against the wall-crawler which is eventually successful, even managing to land the final blow himself.

Rage is not even the word to describe what came next. Before any could anticipate it, Thor was on a war path to Avengers Tower (Norman Osborn! Thor would have words with thee!). He was quickly joined by Johnny Storm, Felicia Hardy, Daredevil, The New Avengers, and Tony Stark. From the sewers another joined them: Otto Octavius. They are confronted by Osborne's Dark Avengers, as well as Penance. Those present with Dopplegangers seek out and reclaim their icons. With Dare Devil's help, Hawkeye takes back his mask. Wolverine unmasks his son. and Iron Man takes down Venom. Thor enters a battle with Ares. Sentry can't decide who's side he's on, Moonstone opts to save her own hide and attempts to run, only to be sucker-punched by a very smug Spider-Woman. Penance steps up and actually deals the avenger heroes some damage. then, a god send appears: Squirrel-Girl. She claims to know the way to make Robbie "Stop being so mopey". with that she and a swarm of squirrels proceed to tackle and then tickle Robbie. at first he is confused, just trying to get them away, but then he is full out laughing. (This is a joke that would start early in the fight, and every so often just reappear in frame and all the serious characters would actually stop and just let them roll out of frame again, possibly commenting "What's with that?").

In the end, the Thor beats Ares, and smites the other saying "Thou shouldst know the saying... Justice... LIKE LIGHTING!" a bolt of lighting slams into the battle field. Osborne is dead. Fury manages to wrest control of "HAMMER", but is still struggling with the corruption Osborne seemed to encourage. the heroes who engaged in the battle however, are labled as villains by the public. They must flee. Except for Squirrel Girl, at the end of the fight Robbie takes off his helment and accepts that he wasn't entirely responsible and wants to be his old self again, but it isn't entirely NOT his fault either. Squirrel-Girl says she knows just the group to help him get bouncing again and takes him back to Milwaukee.

actually, adjustment: Thor's lighting bolt clears the field. Thor is about to land the final strike on Osborn when Felicia cries out for everyone to stop. She's kneeling staring at her hands which are covered in blood. beside her is Bullseye, his abdomen perforated and dead. She says they are doing things PEter wouldn't want... and she collapses in tears. Thor looks at Osborne and is about to give him a reprimand before leaving, when a bullet rips through osborne's skull. Thor, confused scoops up Felicia and tells his fellow combatants they may all fall back to Asguard.

Thor returns to Asguard, punches Baulder in his face for trying banish him. Thor reclaims his throne. Tony, upon arrival, kneels before Thor and says he has realized his errors. and is prepared to take whatever punishments the Gods deem proper. Thor looks at the humiliated man and sees the lessons are already being taught. "Ne'er again speak to me as friend," Thor spat and turned away from Tony. Thor lays Felicia to rest in a palacial bedroom, then pauses. he nodds and moves his hammer gently, suddenly there is a second woman in the room. Sif had been within Hardy. Thor and the Goddess leave the poor woman to her grief.

Over the next few days as fury takes over, and the populace blame and villify the heroes who fought the battle they decide to clean up their name. Johnny storm says that there is only one name for a team of super's trying to clean up their name... Thor and the Thunderbolts approve.
