Actually, this isn't true. While Shazam and Superman are more or less on par in terms of durability, strength and speed, Shazam has a huge advantage with his magic lightning. Superman has no resistance to magic attacks, which means he's hit by them as hard as they hit everybody else. When they fought in Kingdom Come, Superman was getting his ass handed to him until he interrupted the fight and managed to interrupt Luthor's mind control and make him stop. If the fight had continued, Shazam would have won handily.
