What Is Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson Cooking With DC Thread (Black Adam)

Maybe Maze or Roach can dig up some older interviews and comments for proof, but I seem to remember Rock saying he'll be playing a hero (as in the lead) so that makes me believe he's Shazam. He would be great for Black Adam or Shazam either though.

I could look but I don't remember him saying he was the lead

Not really. I mean it's good WB signed him, but he's better suited for Adam.

You need a splash for aquaman. You need a guy who looks totally bad ass. You need an outside the box choice for aquaman bad

I can agree with that as well, but I also think we need a Mamoa type actor to go head to head as Black Adam against Dwayne's Shazam.

What's so wrong with being in the box? lol. Cavill is really an inside the box choice for Superman. Dude looks and can sound just like him!

I'm not a huge DC comics fan so correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Shazam really a little kid with powers that also made him into an adult?

He's a little kid named Billy Batson who, by "saying the word", transforms into a powerful adult form.

Yes and no.

In simple terms; When the kid says the magic word, he becomes a super-powered adult.

I'm really hoping this is true. For numerous reasons.

yup same... he'll bring a lot of needed starpower to the JL if he's involved..

I'm not the biggest Shazam/Cap Marvel fan in the world, but if The Rock is playing him... that's a different story. bring it the **** on, he's gonna be awesome.

One thing is for sure, The Rock really wants to make an announcement of what DC character he is playing. You can see it on his face, it's tough for him to keep it inside!

:funny:

Hey, when it comes to geek stuff I like to ask for the info because a number of geeks love to show off their knowledge on that character or topic.
True, yeah I get it :p

But yeah Shazam is basically the movie "Big" with superpowers. Batson meets this old wizard Shazam who grants him the abilities of all these Olympian gods, all he has to do is say "Shazam" and he gets all these abilities, and he's suddenly an adult. He's a little kid in a superpowered adult's body.

Pretty interesting stuff there to explore in a movie.

Not only does The Rock bring star power to this film, but now we might actually see a big budget CBM with a non white actor as the lead, playing a classic comic book character to boot.

Lets just hope and pray they don't get someone like Jaden Smith to play him as a child.

Very good point.

DC/WB have a chance to make this Justice League cast extremely diverse.

Superman: Henry Cavill
Batman: Ben Affleck
Wonder Woman: Gal Gadot
Shazam: Dwayne Johnson
Aquaman: Jason Momoa
Green Lantern: Chadwick Boseman
Cyborg: Ray Fisher

That's a damn fine cast, and minorities are very well represented there. Except for hispanics... i wouldn't be surprised if we get a hispanic Flash as was rumored.

Marvel has introduced multiple black superheroes in their movies, but in the MCU, none of those characters are really at the forefront. Nick Fury arguably is, but he's less a superhero, more of a superspy. WB has the chance to just destroy Marvel in that regard.
There's still a lot of untapped potential regarding a minority led superhero film. Blade set the stage years ago, but WB has the opportunity to put out a minority led SUPERHERO film. Blade is a Marvel cbm, but idk if I'd argue that it's a superhero film. I guess it is though...

I don't think diversity should be the deciding factor in what characters they choose to include, but diversity is obviously a positive thing, and they have an opportunity to create such a diverse cast for JL

amen to that brother. Jaden Smith seriously comes off like one of the biggest tools in Hollywood, and he's only like 15 or something..

I assume Chadwick is your fancast? Or has WB talked to him lately? Even in rumors?

But yeah, other than Gadot and Fisher, it's a pretty fine cast.

He also gets the powers of four people from greek mythology, one god from roman mythology and one biblical king.

S The wisdom of Solomon
H The strength of Hercules
A The stamina of Atlas
Z The power of Zeus
A The courage of Achilles
M The speed of Mercury

F***ing epic!

I have nothing against him personally, I just don't think he's a great actor. Not sure why people think he's a tool but something about him just annoys me.

Yeah, most of MCU's black heroes are usually the sidekicks. Even Nick Fury is more a supporting role. Despite the fact that Nick Fury has carried his own comic book and has Sam L Jackson playing him, I doubt we'll see a Nick Fury solo film. And that Black Panther film isn't gonna happen anytime soon. If The Rock is playing Shazam, DC/WB has an opportunity to do something that Marvel hasn't.

The last thing I seen him in that I thought he showed some good acting in was the day the earth stood still remake.
