What is the appeal of blue eyes?

Is it me, or do blue eyes seem to be considered the greatest eye colour? It's like the blonde of eye colours. Even in Spider-Man (see, I'm talking on a level you can relate to even!), Mary-Jane notes Peter's blue eyes like there's something special about that (hah, we know that Peter Parker's eyes are supposed to be brown! Brown!).

Is it because it's rare to have blue eyes?

Are blue eyes beautiful?

That's the standard for beauty, basically. The blonde hair and blue eyes, not that there's anything wrong with it. Some of my best friends, and all. Though red hair and green eyes are more my speed if I had to choose.
