Black Eyed Peas is actually pretty good. Well, now and then they obviously try to go with to much mainstream for money's sake. Shakira is good, Pussycatdolls is alright but sure do look stupid and slu**y. Madonna is an old hag and should hang up her cones before they start to hang down anymore.

I believe what you guys concieve as today's music scene is actually what is just in the mainstream and promoted and shoved into our face by corporate conglomerates who don't care about art but just money. If you guys want good music of whatever genre you will have to find it in independant music magazines and on the internet.

You do know the Pussycat Dolls are so devoid of talent that they went out and found ONE girl who can actually sing worth a damn and she records ALL the vocal parts on their albums, don't you?

Morgoth's right about rap being a joke. All it talks about is, "ooh, that girl has a nice ass" or "I'm gonna kill that guy", etc. It's not music, and worse, I feel that it unfairly stereotypes black people to an extent. Okay, maybe I'm reading too much into it.

Modern rock is also pitiful. Green Day and Pearl Jam, two of the best bands of the 1990s', have more or less sold out (maybe not so much Pearl Jam but definitely Green Day), and of course we got crap like Good Charlotte, Fall Out Boy and a load of other crap. The only good modern rock out there is The White Stripes and The Killers.

And American Idol is a joke. If people who watch the show truly idolize the contestants on the show, they are truly idiots. We shouldn't be looking for the next Britney, Christina or Jessica. We should be looking for the next Dylan, Lennon, Page, Cobain or Hendrix. Someone true musicians can actually idolize. People with a little thing called TALENT.

Fortunately, I have enough Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan The Who, Queen, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, AC / DC, Def Leppard, Black Sabbath, Heart, Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles, Talking Heads, Meat Loaf, Billy Joel, Elton John, The Clash, The Ramones, The Eagles, Bon Jovi, Van Halen, John Lennon (solo), Pat Benatar, David Bowie, Billy Idol, Grateful Dead, Guns 'N' Roses and many other truly great bands in my collection that for awhile can make me forget about the crap filling the airwaves. At least for a little while.

hmmm, no, not really, but there are thousands of bands that people don't even remember because they where so bad.
there is plenty of mainstream music that doesn't suck right now, you just have to knwo where to look.
just like there's horrible , pretentious indie bands and annoying tuneless electronica, derivative boring hip-hop, there's also tons of good stuff all over the place.

That's exactly it. Usually the best music I hear isn't on the radio or TV it's used in movies.

I wont lie, i used to listen to emo and **** and than I got into Pink Floyd realized it was way better for me personally because they're just amazing and their lyrics are wonderful and everything, so anyway I went on a journey for 6 months listening to classic rock, and now I cant even pick up a new cd without puking little in my mouth. I used to like bands like saves the day, under oath, but is it just me but the talent is on decline big time, there are no more amazing guitarists like jimmy page, hendrix or whatever, and most of the bands today just do nothing at all. Its not just emo im fed up with other bands arent really up there either.

Its the same with movies, where are the steven speilber and kubrick of next generation? Movies is still a little better but damn the music quality in the world is going down.

Weird, I'm a film major and I say that movies have gone more downhill than music. There's a lot of great stuff happening in music that doesn't get much coverage, and the indy market is doing well around the world. Also, Kubrick was never that great to me. Some entertaining films, but not much to go back on, or become attached to.

Yeah, Sigur Ros is amazing, but they're hardly "popular rock".

Sigor Ros are beginning to irritate me. They are getting a little more popular, but that's not what's annoying me. I find that alot of their songs are very similar, and the guy's voice is beginning to irritate.
