What is with music these days?

I heard one of their songs is on mainstream radio. Maybe it doesn't exactly get the most play though.

But who cares about the radio, their albums are amazing.

You do know the Pussycat Dolls are so devoid of talent that they went out and found ONE girl who can actually sing worth a damn and she records ALL the vocal parts on their albums, don't you?

Tru dat, tru dat. Yeah, datz all they got goin for them. Their songs are actually pretty good only cuz of that one girl. Still it's something.

I wouldn't take musical advice from someone who worships Hilary Duff

by the way, Madonna is one of the few great things on mainstream, always

That was all just a joko, foolio!! I always new she could never sing and her songs were stupid!! But she was sooo adorable trying though. Still, good music is out there you just gotta find it cuz corporate labels are on purposely trying to narrow down options so they can control a steady stream of sales.

There's tons of good music you just gotta look around in the stores and online and quit relying on top 40 radio and TRL

and lol@ any moron thinking all rap is gangsta rap or the dirty south movement. Step your music collection up!

Go pick up every TOOL album made . . . and regardless of what you think, keep listening to it until you LOVE it . . . it will happen, then get Mars Volta; repeat step 1
But aren't and Tool and Mars Volta ****?

We're all better people because we listen to Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendix, The Beatles. Bull ****. We just like different music.

I may mock and ridicule those who listen to music that I feel is inferior to what I listen to, but I'm not particulaly bothered by it. I'm not gonna lose any sleep because my kid sister is listening to Christina Aguilera whilst I'm relaxing to the sounds of Okkervil River.

EDIT: Unecessary rant, saved for a later day.

Wait... are you talking about Kanye West?

Check out Boards of Canada. Intellectual Dance Music (IDM).

And buy anything on Constellation Records.

Brand New's considered 'emo' right? But it's still really good music I think. Umm... maybe you should try some Circa Survive, or... Silverstien (they scream, and you're probably fed up with screaming if you've listened to underoath, even though silverstien makes underoath sound blah).

But what do I know, I hate classic rock.

There was plenty of tripe on the radio at that time as well. The truly good stuff is remembered, but there's a lot of junk from the 60's and 70's that NEVER gets played anymore because it was so bad.

Amazingly, we agree.

There are still good singer/songwriters fighting out there...

Amos Lee, Ben Lee (no relation), Ben Folds, The Fray, Augustana, Outkast...

All have great melodies and thoughtful lyrics. And if you like a more "classic rock" hairband feel, The Darkness is always great.

There's a lot of bad music out there, the key is to not let it drown out the good stuff.

I have a real problem with those that feel that hard rock and metal, men with long hair wearing leather pants and playing music on spikey guitars are the magical cure for those with questionable taste in music.

Yeah, don't you just love blanket statements and generalizations born out of ignorance?

YEAH ME TOO!! That is SOOOO high school level thinking!! Right now I got Kylie Minogue next to Seal, Missy Elliot, Snoop, Dre, Manson, LiL Jon and stuff. Why can't someone listen to everything without having to be categorized into a certain genre LET ALONE look like that genre?

Not really. I listen to Radio 4 with alarming regularity. In between the fascinating documentaries, comedy shows and quizzes, you'll find plenty in the way of Nick Cave, Kate Bush, Paul Simon, Andrew Bird, classical guitar and paino music and artist interviews.

The cure is not to not listen to the radio show, but rather listen to whatever you want to.

Speaking of the radio, does anybody ever listen to Little Steven's Underground Garage? That's the best radio show out there right now I think. He plays some great music.

To each thier own, but I still don't understand how anyone could hate it.
It's rather simple, actually. What you do is you listen to it and then decide if you like it or not, without cautiousless waiting for affirmation from your peers as to what your verdict should be.

Heh, you've just made a friend. It's exactly my sentiment when it comes to this issue, it's a sliding scale when it comes to one genre and then to another that's accepted.:down

Well, I don't like the overall sound of it. How it always builds up, and then let's you down (Stairway to Heaven is my perfect example here, the way it build up the intire song, and right after he scream/sings "And as we move on through life." or somthing like that, it's like it slows down to a crall where it should be punching you in the face.)

I also find these 3 minute solos annoying too.

So you mean you just hate Led Zepplin, they're not the only classic rock band, you know. They had different genre's and sounds back then as well.

I guess I can understand that, even if I don't agree with it. I just find the vast majority of mainstream modern rock artists aren't talented and what's sad is that seems to be okay. Classic rock musicians could school them in a musicianship contest. And the main reason why I love classic rock so much is that most of it is blues-based at least a little bit. Blues is the best music ever invented in my opinion. It's so primal.
