My favorite one isn't in print yet because DC is to proud to concede that the Silver Surfer would mop up the floor with Superman.

Did we forget assistant editor's week?

Man, this was hard. I picked Age of Apocalypse because it was just so well done and the emotion and story behind it was phenominal. However, there were several others that I was heavily debating between that should get an honorable mention. X-Cutioner's Song, Inferno, Clone Saga, and Civil War. And if Annihilation was included, that'd be up there as well.

And oddly, I'm yet to get around to reading any of the Secret War stories.

X-Cutioners song was the tale that popped my comics cherry, but my current Fave (having not read Annihilation or WWH yet) is AoA. It really created a whole new rich alternate reality and had some great characters, and turned some real lame ones awesome.

No Contest of Champions:huh:

I didn't think anythin could beat Secret War. Some of the covers alone crushed a couple of the other poll's entire series.
Beyonder w/ a perm, cmon!

A Strong #2 goes to Inferno saga...just awsome, I always thougt back in the day, before we had 3 comic movies a year, a demon invasion of N.Y. would translate great to a live action screen for an X-Men story.

it's a close call between several of these, but Mutant Massacre takes it for me. That was the story that hooked me as a comic fan for life. It was so brutal and jarring. There was no feeling of "this will all go back to status quo in a few years". When you crucify Angel by his wings and murder most of the Morlocks, you've made a lasting impression.

and it introduced the Marauders. Who were scary as hell. and a new crop of them is leading the current x-men books.

runner-ups:
-Secret Wars I... II not so much
-Annihilation (made me care about the space characters-whodathunkit?)
-Fall of the Mutants- Not perfect, but a captivating read at the time - and not a real crossover either as all three teams had their own stories, just happening at the same time. New Mutants with Birdbrain kinda sucked save for Doug's death. This series was the real coming out for Apocalypse and his Horsemen, in the X-factor book. and Angel becoming Death was riveting.

i have to agree about the ongoing story in annuals not being a good thing, generally. The Evolutionary War was painful.

Civil War (even with its obvious problems, it was a huge thing)

Annihilation.

Maximum carnage was pretty good, for the time. Now a day's it's like it never existed, but every so often I'll pull the old issues out and read it. Gotta love the senseless and mindless killing.

New Universe.

Not sure if that counts but they crossed over a lot.

At first I was anti Civil War. Still, there are certain books in the Civil War that I hated, and there was stuff I like. I usually hate crossover events, but Civil War has started to grow on me.

I have a special place in my heart for the Mutant Massacre.

I picked Secret Wars. For a short series I liked Atlantis Attacks.

I think Civil War as a concept could have been my favorite but I don't like how it was executed. It's like no one has any ethics anymore.

I really liked the Infinity Gauntlet and Infinity War, they also have that nostalgia factor as the first two major crossovers I read. After that probably Age of Apoclaypse, really liked that story.
